Postby Segmentia » Sat Feb 20, 2016 9:00 pm

In Service to the Imperium
Episode 8
'It is what we do best. We die standing.'

Welcome to Zevros Prime, a world in the midst of rebellion against the Imperium of Man. Trouble began nearly a decade ago, rumor has it that the Tau infiltrated indoctrinated humans into the populace that then began to cause trouble. Zevros Prime has always been a slightly resentful world, having been the seat of a small empire millennia ago, before it was battered down and rightly absorbed by the Imperium. The generations since have always held some resentment over the fact. It is believed that the Tau agents riled up these sentiments and began attacking PDF locations and forces, spurring the populace into open rebellion after local commanders came down harshly after each attack. It was not long after the rebellion spread across the planet that the Tau presence became more openly known.

The Tau Empire is yet to commit any real forces to the rebellion, something that is credited to the surprisingly rapid response by the Imperium. Before the first year had passed forces from the Imperial Guard were sent to aid the PDF, even if they were in generally small numbers. Still, the rebellions efforts are guided by seasoned Tau officers. The conflict is three years in and the odds still favor the rebels, though the Imperial Guard presence has recently been bolstered with the arrival of new regiments, as well as assistance sent by the other branches of the Imperium.

------------------------------------

Welcome to Episode 8 of In Service to the Imperium, the long standing(If short lived) rp series where you take up the role as a regimental commander in the Imperial Guard. As mentioned above this episode will focus on the putting down of a wide-spread rebellion that is backed by the Tau Empire, though not directly.

In this episode we will be allowing the players to pick between regiments, or powerful individual characters with attached retinues, though these would be decently small, but well above the skill and equipment of your standard Imperial Guardsmen. These characters can be from various other organizations within the Imperium, but there is a limit. Rouge Traders, Adepta Sororitas, Adeptus Mechanicus, and even the Inquisition. However, remember that being an Inquisitor or other of these types of characters does not mean you can do as you please within the rp, such as ordering around other characters and regiments without that players approval, or calling in massive amounts of other forces.

The roleplay will take place on the world of Zevros Prime, a slightly smaller then earth sized planet with a decent variety of biomes and terrain, from the vast marsh and swamp lands that dominate the equator region, to the temperate swaths of forests and mountains in the north. Map potentially in the works.

In reserve or deployed? (Basically if you want to start as sitting around and waiting to be sent to fight, or if you want to start in the thick of it. This is an option because I know some people lose interest in the generally long build ups before we get into actual combat. So if you want to have that build up, maybe enter into some military politics for a bit, choose to start out in reserve. If deployed you'll start out in the thick of it.)

Individual Character and Retinue Application

Name:
Captain John Smith

In service to which Imperial organization:
None

Bio:

Largely nothing is known about John's early history however what is well known was his history as a young adult in service of a rather wealthy Trader. Initially, he started his career as a Mercenary at a rather low level position with little power. During a series of Trade Wars proved himself as an exceptional warrior and tactician. During these series of wars he racked up a fairly large sum of money as well as trophy's gathered across countless battlefields. One of the most potent pieces being the Railgun from a Tau Broadside Battlesuit although no longer functional, makes a fantastic wall piece aboard his Corvette, which acts as his mobile base of operations for his Mercenary outfit. By his mid forty's John had amassed a modest fortune that allowed him to purchase himself the corvette he now uses but also the required contacts for him to operate under the Imperial Radar as an effective Mercenary Force. Roughly two years ago he and his unit gained considerable experience in fighting a rather minor Chaos insurgency that was easily quelled. The lessons learned from this however, were groundbreaking. Before this he'd had zero experience with waging a war against an Insurgency and the harsh lessons learned on that campaign built the groundwork for his final job. In an encrypted transmission John received a message from an anonymous message from a Rogue Trader offering immense riches, enough for his entire Band to become Nobles, if they assisted in overthrowing Imperial Rule on a backwater planet. He was extremely skeptical initially but upon further explanation and evidence that it was not a Heretic fueled rebellion but rather someone simply seeking independence from the iron fist of the Imperium. Whist in transit, an unexpected knot entered the plan. The Tau Empire. The initial plan, revolved around overthrowing the rather weak Imperial government, training the next generation PDF to defend themselves against any sort of retaliation. With the intervention of the Tau Empire, no longer were the people united under a single banner of promised independence, but rather multiple banners of potential freedom. Upon his arrival in orbit over Zevros Prime, he received yet another message.

Ensure the planet's independence from both Imperial and Tau rule.

With an absolute fortune on the line and a hold filled to the brim with weapons and supply's bought at the expensive of their contact. They prepared to wage their war for Independence.

Appearance:

Wargear:
Tau Battle Armor Chest Plate
Auto Pistol
Autogun w/ Kraken Rounds1
Jungle Knife
Command Vox Uplink
Krak Grenades
Refractor Field

Midsummer Night- Heavily Modified Corvette Has stealth properties and advanced Communications systems to act as a mobile command center. Capable of surface landing.

Reasons for being on Zevros Prime:
Obtaining Independence2

Retinue:
x60 Vakarian Regulars

Misc details:

1) Similar to the Bolter rounds of the same name are functionally Armor piercing ammunition for his Autogun.
2) He personally doesn't care but is being paid a hefty sum of money to see it through.

Miscellaneous info: Artillery regiments are the hammer of the Death Korps of Krieg, the ultimate extension of their stoicism and callousness. The guns of the 2781st boom day and night to pound their targets to dust, their deaf crews working to maintain the deluge upon the enemies of the Imperium under the worst of conditions, even as counterbatteries respond in kind. Indeed the Death Korps cannoneers are given fully to their charge; when given the order they shall bury a target in shrapnel, whether that target be enemies proper, civilian populations, or even friendlies entwined with the enemy in close combat. Once commanded, the guns will never fall silent until those calling in fire are content with what Krieg has sent them.

-Regimental Commander info-

Name: "Varheim" 637-901-7275-94A
Age: 40
Gender: Male
Rank: Colonel
Background: It is said that the Death Korps of Krieg is led by the survivors; Varheim is proof of that. Before his current command Varheim was an artillery captain of the 254th Line Korps in the Melkbridge Campaign, in the Buren Sector. The campaign was gruesome one in the end, as the rebel forces ended the final battle on Chirode with a nuclear attack that burned the world and destroyed 90% of the 254th with nuclear fire-and the rest with radiation. Varheim, in a way, did not exactly survive: though as alive as a Krieg can be, Varheim's body was invaded by cancers and weakness. However, weakness would not do for the Death Korps, and Varheim pushed his body to the limits to prove salvageable by the Imperial Guard. After waiting and fighting disease on the fortress world he was left on, he was assigned by planetary command to a passing artillery regiment, the 2781st, as it headed to join a new crusade.
Physical description: Varheim is an old man by Krieg standards at the age of 44, although he seems much older due to his ravaged body. Cancerous tumors sprout all around Varheim's body, hidden by layers of clothing but clearly affecting his movement and comfort. He sometimes requires an aide to walk, and constant hacking fits betray the diseases he hides. His infliction does little to hinder his attitude, however, since it only enhances the fatalistic tendencies he shares with his regiment, the respect of which he has earned by virtue of outlasting an entire line korps. Still, Varheim's cancer gives him a complex, one which projects his weakness onto other regiments and thus often leads to him being ostracized by his peers, which brings chastisement by the Commissar then subsequent repentance, further feeding his feelings of inadequacy in a vicious circle.

The Cruiser itself wouldn't see much action, but the aircraft probably would so long as you stay on good terms with the Guard commanders.

The idea would be that it'll basically be an orbiting airbase.

Just really kicking about ideas at the moment.

I'll finish this sometime tomorrow.

Individual Character and Retinue Application

Name: Brisina Sephane
In service to which Imperial organization: Imperial Inquisition, Ordo Xenos
Bio: Brisina Sephana was born on the Shrine World of Palmoris IV, with a hereditary position as one of the many positions of a shrine keeper, tasked with the maintenance and cleaning of a small shrine to one of the Emperor's many saints. The - perhaps rather boring - life of devotion that lay ahead of her abruptly ended with the arrival of the Imperial Inquisition to the shrine world. Inquisitor Maximilian Androvar Ventulax of the Ordo Xenos had come to Palmoris IV, tracing the trade in illegal artifacts of alien origin, eventually followed a lead that would bring him to the shrine in Brisina's care in particular. The aging Inquisitor, looking for a specific grave underneath which the smugglers were temporarily hiding their wares before moving them off-world again, enlisted the aid of the young Brisina, whom faithfully complied. Fast forward several weeks in which Androvar enlisted her help in getting around the area, and Brisina found herself enlisted by the Inquisition as an Acolyte of the aging man she had met but weeks earlier, whom was clearly short on assistants.
Appearance: Less stylized, naturally.
Wargear: Power Sword, Carapace Armor, Needle Pistol, Digital Weapon (in the form of a ring), Refractor Field, Frag/Krag/Psyk-Out grenades, and three servo skulls: one to carry out basic tasks, one primarily used to carry around scrolls, and another to take pictures and record videos. A plain knife, as well.
Reasons for being on Zevros Prime: Investigate the Tau threat on Zevros Prime, end it, and investigate the alien race's methods used in the conflict to gain a better understanding for future conflicts. The current plan of action is to - in a way similar to what the Tau did - establish an Imperial insurgent group among the population of Zevros to battle the Xenos threat from within.
Retinue:
Lysander Melchert, tech-savant. Equipped with a servo-harness and a laspistol. Takes care of the Inquisitor's technological needs.

Asmodan the Pure, an assassin that might not be as pure as his (self-picked) title would imply. Devoted to the God-Emperor in a more than unhealthy way, Asmodan is known to regularly take combat drugs to throw himself into even more of a religious fervor. Skilled with both long- and close-range weaponry. Wears a leather bodyglove, chainsword, and hellrifle.

Sister Lucata, of the Sisters of Battle. Sole survivor of the Sororitas squad tasked with guarding the Shrine of Saint Aspedes, now permanently attached to the Inquisitor's retinue. Wears a suit of carapace armor, and uses a boltgun, frag/krag grenades, and a combat knife.

Old Fargral, a minor psyker serving as Brisina's mystic. Raised on a feral world and plucked out of a cell on the Black Ships. Wears a dusty old robe and uses a staff, more for leaning on than hitting people.

Anakha, spire nobility gone hive ganger gone Inquisitorial acolyte. A jack of all trades, master of none, she has forsaken her criminal past and now serves the Inquisition. Uses a customized autogun, and wears a flak jacket for protection.

Four Tempestus Scions in service to the Ordo Xenos, equipped with carapace armor and hellguns.

An assorted twenty-three guardsmen veterans serving as guards. Equipped with flak armor, frag/krak grenades, autoguns, lasguns, and several specialist weapons such as flamers and meltaguns, depending on the individual trooper.

Two Valkyrie Gunships, with two pilots each, painted in a dull grey to hide them from working for one of the Ordos of the Inquisition. Temporarily handed over to the Inquisition for use on Zevros.

Regimental application

Regiment name: 77th Paradisio Penal Legion
Home world: Paradisio (Designiated Penal World)
Type of Regiment: Penal Legion (Infantry)
Commanding Officer: Sanctioned Colonel Clovis "Silver Teeth" Vasilev, commonly called "Silver" by the troops.
Number of Guardsmen: There is roughly 6,000 personnel serving in the 77th Paradisio. Not all are penal troops, however, as some individuals are employed by the commissariat to keep the legionnaires in line or are otherwise a mix of guard/non-guard support types. A general breakdown is as follows:

10 Legionnaires per Squad (1 Sergeant, 9 riflemen), all penal.
8 Squads per Platoon (1 Platoon Leader, 1 Secondary Leader, 1 Signalman) = 83 Legionnaires, all penal.
6 Platoons per Company (1 Company Commander, 1 Secondary Commander, 2 Signalmen, 2 Commissariat Overseers) = 504 Legionnaires, with 2 sanctioned penal officers and 2 commissariat personnel.

Ten companies (#2-11) are entirely line infantry of varying type, with a rough estimate of 5,040 legionnaires total.

The First Company (#1) is reserved for command personnel, formed primarily of sanctioned legionnaires with the assistance of commissariat troops. (100 pl.)
The Twelfth Company (#12) is a support company of combat/non-combat vehicles and regimental personnel, such as medicae. (300 pl.)
The Thirteenth Company (#13) is formed up entirely of non-penal troops. All guardsmen here are commissariat, tasked with keep the 77th legionnaires disciplined in and away from combat zones. This company is often not committed to combat, as these troops are needed to handle the penal legionnaires. (400 pl.)

The vast majority of the legionnaire command structure is made up of sanctioned penal officers, who have displayed an acceptable degree of conduct to lead fellow penal troops. Commissariat personnel do not lead the troops directly unless needed.

Support (Weapons, vehicles, etc): The support weapons of this regiment are fairly haphazard, as legionnaires are expected to loot and scavange for most of their material. This is in place to keep the troops in line, but it is also remarkably cheaper. There is no standard equipment type, so numerous weapon make and models are scattered around the regiment. As such, here is the general roster:

-37 Stubbers
-13 Heavy Stubbers
-29 Rocket Launchers
-1 Lascannon
-6 Mortars
-39 Flamers
-3 Autocannons
-6 Bolters

The standard legionnaire kit, besides his uniform, consists of a basic field kit (food pan, canteen, blanket, ammunition, etc.), Kantrael M36 lasgun, combat knife, and Paradisio-pattern rebreather. The Paradisio rebreather is a simple duel cannister device, which is more often than not used as a method of chem-inhalation. This allows legionnaires to consume various combat drugs, such as Frenzon. As mentioned before, legionnaires are guaranteed the right to keep what the loot. This results in a non-standard mixture of weapons and personnel effects. Xenos technology and other Imperial uniforms are forbidden to be used or worn.

Uniforms: The Paradisio uniform is composed of a simple set of boots, trousers, undershirt, cap, and jacket. The jacket is padded for warmth and protection. Any armor is expected to be looted or salvaged.
Miscellaneous info: Paradisio, like most penal words, is only a step above Hell. The planet is a toxic wasteland, where prisoners are expected to work daily either manufacturing materials or mining the metal rich crust. Pollution chokes the atmosphere and ground, and as a result, simply living on the planet reduces an individuals lifespan significantly. Also like other overcrowded penal worlds, volunteers are allowed to enlist in penal legions with the motivation of keeping what they loot (or steal, in many cases) and to escape the toxic landscape of their planet. Those that show exceptional holy conduct in battle or survive thirty-five years of service are granted their freedom, though this has only happened a handful of times in centuries. As a result, service in a penal legion is a death sentence, albeit a prolonged one marked with periods of intense violence, which, for the most part, the prisoners enjoy while they can. Those which commit any crimes will be sent back to Paradisio permanently (or executed in extreme cases), which is another factor which helps to keep the legionnaires in line.

Paradisio legionnaires are an expected mix of brutal criminals and heretics that were either lucky (or unlucky) enough to escape death. It is recommended that any contact with the legionnaires is to be avoided. To ensure that legionnaires are always known, a serial number and bar-code has been imprinted onto the left cheek of their face in black ink. A similar imprint can be found on their right wrist. Individuals with scarring in these locations are to be suspected escaped legionnaires and are to be reported to the commissariat immediately.

Local criminals are "recruited" into the 77th whenever fresh blood is needed, or simply as a way to easily get rid of the criminals.

-Regimental Commander info-

Name: Clovis "Silver Teeth" Vasilev, or "Silver" for short.
Age: 29
Gender: Male
Rank: Sanctioned Penal Colonel
Background: Clovis Vasilev committed a double murder at the age of nineteen, killing two ecclesiarchial clergymen after they had sentenced his two sisters to be burned for suspected heresy. While he was unable to save his siblings, he was nonetheless able to satisfy his thirst for revenge. Moments before he was to be killed after the murders, a priest stepped in and halted the execution. The priest offered Clovis the chance of redemption if he would repent, and he did so only to save his own skin. As a result, he was imprisoned and sent to the closest Penal World - Paradisio. Not a day goes by that he does not think that this was the worst decision of his life.

For three years Clovis toiled in the underground mines, learning to live with the Imperium's worst. His wits kept him alive, as well as his powerful figure which was a result of his endless work in the mines. While death, both accidental and purposeful, was high in the mine tunnels, Clovis managed to stick with the right people and stay above the rest. After several years on Paradisio, Clovis became little more than another bright and cruel young man among millions. He betrayed the right people, he killed the right people, and he submitted to the right people.

By a stroke of luck, on the day he pissed off a major rival gang boss, a new penal legion was called into service. Volunteers flooded the registration chambers, and Clovis was one of the first. He enlisted as quickly as possible and succeeded in escaping his pursuers, who were out for his blood. While those that wished him dead were immediately out of the picture, he did notice many familiar faces among the new legionnaires from the mines - some friendly, some not. He considers his enlistment to be the second worst mistake of his life.

Life as a legionnaire is to live the shortest, most brutal life possible. Some, by luck or skill, live on through the most terrible war zones while the rest end up dead in countless horrific ways. On his fourth year of service, having lived long enough to become a sergeant, Clovis was captured by Imperial rebels. The rebels desired information out of him, but did not care that he was a penal legionnaire and was told nothing else besides who to kill and where. For three days he endured severe torture and had every last one of his teeth torn from his mouth. An assault on the rebel stronghold on the fourth day occurred, and in the confusion he managed to murder his way through and escape back to his legion. When found, he was bleeding profusely from the mouth and was drenched in the blood of those he had killed with a stolen blade. At the time, rumor said he had killed over ten men with his bare teeth in his escape, as few knew that his teeth had been actually removed and was the cause of the blood. To this day, some still believe the rumor.

Years went by and Clovis, with his silver metal teeth implants, killed and survived his way through the 77th's ranks and one day impressed a commissar enough that he was taken up for a sanctioned officer position. His behavior was good enough and he kept his subordinates under control (the threat of an unclean murder was always helpful), and at the age of twenty-six Clovis became one of the youngest (and fiercest) sanctioned officers to command a Paradisio penal legion. Only an individual with immense willpower and a careful mix of brutality and cunning can keep a penal legion in line.

Physical description: Clovis stands at five feet, eleven inches with a powerful and youthful physique. While he is not particularly broad shouldered, he is more than capable of taking on men much larger than he is with strength alone. His skin is naturally light, but constant activity outdoors has given him a healthy and nearly constant tan. Several prominent scars etch their way across his face, most noticeably a thick scar which splits one side of his upper lip as well as a long scar which snakes its way across the bridge of his nose and underneath his left eye. True to his nickname, his teeth are entirely metal implants, which are silver in color. While his unnerving grin and silver teeth can frighten some into submission, the reality is he lives in constant pain from the implants. A mixture of drugs - legal and illegal - keep the pain away. Here's a decent representation of him.

In reserve or deployed: Deployed, but basing at headquarters with active patrols and battlefield forays.

I'm sure the legionnaires will enjoy "borrowing" some Krieg rebreathers for "approved" use.

I'm also sure the Krieg artillery would never fire on friendly troops.
