Other Info
Brief Description of your Economy: Built on a vast trade network and the regions heavy focus on Cash Crops such as Tobaco and Sugar. The discovery of large oil deposits off the coast of Cuba and the Cayman Islands boosted their economy, with the American nations no longer having to rely on the Middle East for their oil and instead getting it straight from the Caribbean.
Goals: found a revived OPEC to regulate the worlds oil trade, reforge relations with America and Brazil, maintain and expand the Federation.
History: When the United States fractured, Cuba was faced with an unprecedented refugee crisis. Millions of Cuban-Americans, hoping to escape the war-torn nation, sailed back to Cuba in droves, and the country, not able to turn so many back, was forced to accept them. However, these migrants brought with them the ideology of the United States and the Free World. The idea of liberty and democracy spread like wildfire, and soon the people of Cuba realized that the Castro regime was not the saviors they claimed to be. Cuba went through a peaceful revolution where millions marched into Havana and demanded democracy. The protest was brutally crushed by the Castro Regime, which lead to the Cuban War of Freedom, as it is called within Cuba today. The two year-long civil war pitted the Cuban Free Army against the Castro Regime, and ended when the last holdout of the Castro Regime, on the Isle de Juventad, brokered a peace with the Republic that led to a China-style political mess up, with the Castro Regime claiming to be Cuba and the Mainland of Cuba claiming to be Cuba. Most nations recognized the new Cuban Republic, which quickly set up a new government and set about rebuilding the Island nation. The Cuban Republic then turned its attention to the island of Dominica. Haiti and the Dominican Republic had been ruled by dictators feeding off the uncertainty caused by the economic crash, and the CR decided to stamp out totalitarianism in the Caribbean. Haiti and the DR fell to Cuban troops, and true republics were installed. However, the people of both nations decided that rather than risk another dictator rising to power, they should join with Cuba. This was the beginning of the Federation. The Bahamas, Jamaica, the Cayman Islands, Belize, and Turks and Caicos, which had formed the Caribbean Commonwealth after the global economic crisis, signed the Caribbean Economic Association agreement with the Federation and Puerto Rico, which had established its independence along with the Virgin Islands(which was a commonwealth of the former commonwealth, ironically). The three, in 2039, decided to unify into one nation due to the popular support of the people in all three nations. The discovery of oil near Cuba and the Cayman Islands only re-inforced this decision, as the economy of the Commonwealth and the Federation boomed on the new oil trade. In 2042, the Caribbean Federation was officially declared in Port-au-Prince, the official capitol of the greater Caribbean Federation. The new nation seeks to improve trade and relations with surrounding nations, as well as to improve its Armed Forces, which are currently outdated used hand-me-downs from the member nations.
