Pretty much any things everyone needs to see go here, if you care at all.

The Great War was a dark time in human history, as millions of human lives were lost with little gained in return. Between 1912 and 1918 all of Europe was consuming by all out conflict over petty rivalries and bind nationalism. Once lush, grass filled plains were reduced to crater filled fields of dust piled with bodies and debris. The war lead to the collapse of empires and the formation of several new nations turned to the most radical of ideologies in an attempt to escape the shackles of monarchism that had driven the world to war. The war began in 1912 when the Russian allies of Serbia and Bulgaria attacked the Ottomans, dragging the League of the Three Emperors into war with the Triple Entente. The United States would mostly stay uninvolved in the conflict until the Confederation of Dixie attacked the southern border of the USA with support of the German Empire, creating the North American front. USA forces soon found themselves in a two front war against Russians in Canada and Dixie in the South. In Europe; French and British forces fought valiantly against the hordes of German, Russian and Austrian troops and managed to hold the line from Alsace all the way up to north Belgium. In the Middle East, the Ottomans faced both Russian and Serbian troops bearing down on them from the north, but managed to hold the line in Kurdistan and Bulgaria thanks too British and Egyptian reinforcements from the south.

The war tipped in the Allies' favor when Russia collapsed under the Bolsheviks, who nearly expanded into America if it had not been for USA and Provisional forces holding them back, resulting in a Taiwan-Like situation with the Russian Republic claiming Russia from Alaska. The War ended with an armistice on November 11th, 1918 and the Treaty of Versailles in 1920. The nation of Greece was absorbed by the Ottomans after the Ottoman-Greek war in 1921, and the Most of the Balkans remained in shambles and all blamed one another for starting the war, crushing the plan for a unified Slavic state. The Austrian-Hungarian Empire was split into several nations as well after the war, with multiple new nations forming. Germany soon found a new hope in the NSDAP, a group who took power under a man named Adolf Hitler. Italy also fell to the new ideology with Benito Mussolini, but most shocking to the Western allies was the fall of Spain to Fascism after the Government was overthrown by nationalist rebels. The strong feelings of anti-Communism in these newly changed nations led to the creation of the Quadripartite pact between Germany, Italy, Spain and Japan. The alliance of the UK, France, Portugal and Poland was made to counter this alliance. All out war nearly began in 1939 when German forces moved to the Polish border, but stood down after the USSR threatened war on Germany alongside the Western Allies. This would go on to be known as the Molotov-Ribbentrop Crisis.

Germany also made several overtures to the Russian Republic in exile promising them to retake their country from the Communists, and to Mexico as well who also held several gripes against the former Allied Powers. China is still in chaos on the Kuomintang, the Communists and the warlords still fight over the territory as Japanese forces invade. Refugees flee into British India as the conflict continues to drag on and on. The year is 1947, and the world is on the brink of a Second Great War, worse than the first; and every nation rapidly tries to build up their arsenals stronger than their opponents. War in inevitable, the only thing left unknown is who come out on top.

8. I understand there will be a world war going on in this RP, but do keep in mind that politics and social problems still do exist. Don't just fully focus on conquest and war.

Military information

Army: The Grand Army of Dixie stands at around 70,000 strong, and has training on par with several other first world armies. The service rifle of the Army is the Tredegar Automatic Rifle, a Semi-Automatic rifle fed 25-round magazines. The army is divided up into five different army groups designated for a certain area of land.

The GIA stands for Greater Intelligence Agency, who finds high-ranking terrorists in the Confederation's borders and deals with other domestic problems. The FDF stands for Foreign Defense Agency, with deals with foreign issues like toppling governments, and finding terrorists in other nations.

Several paragraph History of your nation: 1861- Dixie War of Independence begins with the attack on Fort Sumter, leading to two Confederate victories at Bull Run.
1862- Victory over Union forces at Antietam deals a massive blow to the Union morale, granting the Confederation a chance a chance to focus on the West, were the Union had much more luck. Planned proclamation of emancipating slaves in the south is never passed.
1863- Southern troops camp in Maryland outside Washington D.C. Union begins withdrawing troops from the Western front to deal with the threat, allowing the Mississippi River to be retaken.
1864- George McClellan is elected president in the Union due to promises to end the war peacefully, and March 3rd 1864 becomes Dixie Independence Day.
1870- Population crisis in Dixie due to a lack of refugees. The Confederation government opens ports to immigrants to try to increase the population.
1872- Industrial revolution begins in he extremely poor nation. Confederation looks overseas for allies however Britain and France decline due to slavery. However, the German Empire accepted the Confederation's overtures.
1882- Due to it's close proximity to the US border, the Confederate capital is moved to Atlanta.
1887- Dixie is involved in the first war since independence with the Dixie-Spanish war. Cuba is freed from Spanish rule with the help of German rifles and equipment.
1893- Confederate army begins massive overhauls after the unnecessarily large casualty amounts in the war against Spain. With German help, Dixie modernizes its military.
1900- With no other choice, the Confederation frees all slaves, just in time for the turn of the century. The move enrages many aristocrats, but it had to be done to save the trashed economy.
1905- Russo-Japanese War. Many volunteers from Dixie go to fight for their ally Russia and the government gives material support. However, the Russian loss of the war was blamed partially on the Confederation; causing the League of the Three Emperors to slightly blame them. Relations were hurt until the Great War.
1911- With growing tension in Europe, Dixie begins to suffer from a economic crisis again as Britain cuts off trade with the League ally.
1912- Great War begins in Europe. Dixie is initially neutral in the conflict due to slightly strained relations with the League.

The Great War saw the Confederation be initially neutral as they didn't want any part in a European conflict. However the economic crisis from the British blockade of trade, the League, now the Central Powers; started to entice Dixie into attacked their northern neighbor in co-ordination with the Russians from Alaska. Dixie refused for the first year and a half of the war, but President Woodrow Wilson began to worry as Britain and the US held good relations with one another, and a combined attack by both Britain and the US would crush the Confederation. The President went to Parliament, and asked them for permission to attempt to swiftly eliminate the United States. Parliament agreed and on March 7, 1914,under the cover of darkness, General John J. Pershing led a force of 12,000 Confederation Marines across the Potomac Rifle, pushing for the former US capital of Washington. Their goal was to move on the current capital of Philadelphia as quickly as possible, and to try to secure US money to the south in the form of reparations. Initially the war went heavily in favor of the south. The US garrison at Washington was ill-equipped to fight against the well-trained Confederation Marines, and the battle was a great tactical and strategic victory for the South. To the West several thousand troops from the Grand Army of Dixie pushed into Northern Territory, trying to break the sleeping giant before it awoke.

The Confederation did not succeed in taking Baltimore, as Union forces stopped them just north of Washington. This is were trench lines would begin to set in, with both sides digging in as neither could beat back the other. To the West things were quite different as trains allowing forces of both sides to quickly traverse the open terrains of the American mid-West. Train loads of Dixie troops were dropped off near the cities of St. Louis, Los Angeles and Denver, trying to choke the Union of their industrial capabilities. Fighting in the West was fast moving and front lines were constantly changing unlike the East were both sides were dug in outside Baltimore. The Confederation had hoped that the Russians would take Ottawa from US control by the end of summer, but they had little luck in the Canadian front. As time went on, the war brought itself to the town of Gettysburg for the second time in history in October 1914, the last major Confederation victory before the cold set in. The battle boosted morale, but snowfall would hamper any further pushes to Philadelphia. Winter 1914 brought the sides to a stalemate as neither one wanted to risk an offensive in the snow. To the West Denver fell to Confederation control but they soon found themselves fighting Union forces on three fronts. Early 1915 saw the war resume the same way at had in 1914, neither side making massive gains or pushes. The worst Confederation defeat of the war was April 17 1915, when the Confederation fleet was utterly crushed in the Annapolis harbor. The Union would have naval supremacy the rest of the war.

The next two years would drag on, and in May 1915 Yankee forces finally retook Washington and thus the city of Richmond became the front line. The West saw many front line changes as Union forces eventually pushed the Confederates all the way back to the pre-war border. The Confederation saw a massive amount of Union reinforcements arrive in 1917 when the Russian Revolution removed the Northern front from the North American Theater, putting full pressure on Confederation ground troops. Despite superior numbers, Confederation troops still held back the Union with their superior training and weaponry, showing the world the power that southern troops had. African-Americans also had several regiments involved in the conflict, but did not fight well as they lacked loyalty to a nation that openly discriminated them; unlike Union African-American regiments. The November 11th 1918 armistice was a relief to the Confederation troops who were on the brink of collapse from the bitter fighting over the previous four years. With that, the Great War ended in North America, with nearly 4 million Confederation soldiers and civilians dead.

1919-Rebuilding begins. Confederation relations with Central Powers fall apart as they blame the Germans, Austrians and Russians for all the lives lost. Treaty of Boston forces Confederation to pay heavy reparations to the US and give up the state of Kentucky.

1924- Economic crisis escalates from both reparations and a lack of trade.

1927-Cuban Revolution fails as Confederation troops crack down hard on the populace, increasing animosity against their occupiers.

1933- Confederation stops trade with the Wiemar Republic when NSDAP takes over. German ally of Italy also breaks off from Confederation trade.

1936-Confederation supports Republicans in Spanish Civil War despite their left-wing beliefs, however Francisco Franco and the Nationalists take over.

1939-Molotov-Ribbentrop Crisis sends a scare to the war scarred populace of Dixie. The Confederation begins increasing it's military.

1940- Confederation forces occupy several islands in the Caribbean Sea in an attempt to stop the spread of both Fascism and Communism to Dixie's neighbors.

1942-Confederation begins increasing relations with Mexico in an attempt to establish hegemony over the North American continent and outnumber the Northerners with allies.

1944-Confederation begins aiding Chinese Nationalists in the Civil War, enraging the Soviet Union and Japan who were both expanding into the huge nation.

1946-Last major Confederation action before the Second Great War was the invasion of Nicaragua.

Military information

Army: 80,000 Active, 20,000 Reserve. Morale is high, training is decent, and technology is the best American/British stuff money can buy. Training and technology are depended upon out of fear of a Soviet incursion which would most definitely rely on sheer numbers.
Navy: ~100 ships of varying types, mostly American designed but Alaskan built. Defense of Alaskan territory is the biggest goal of the Navy, over power protection. There is also a very large merchant fleet of oil tankers and coal carriers, though that has diminished with the building of pipelines to North America. The navy has 20,000 Active duty members.
Air force: 10,000 Active duty members. ~200 planes of varying type, mostly American bought. The Alaskan airforce is relatively large, skilled, and technologically advanced, for the same reason as the other branches, which is to offset the numerical advantages of the USSR.
Intelligence agencies: White Guard(Secret police/military intelligence organization)

In the 1860s, Russian America was a cold, dark place. A mere few thousand settlers and fur trappers lived there, and marauding bands of Natives still sometimes took action against their colonial overlords. The government in Petrograd had long flirted with the idea of selling the far flung colony, but no attempts came into fruition, especially with the outbreak of the American Civil War. So the Tsar made the controversial choice to keep the seemingly barren land, which was nicknamed by Russian nobility and the media as "Tsar Alexander's Icebox". Not much changed from before. A new naval base was built in Kodiak, and many more monks were sent to Russify the natives.

Things changed in 1891, when a monastery along the Norton Sound discovered gold. They started the Alaskan Gold Rush. Seemingly overnight, Alaska's population doubled. Thousands of fortune seekers from across the Empire flocked to what had changed from "Tsar Alexander's Icebox" to "Russia's Land of Promise". Most of which were Ukrainians and Georgians. Archangelsk grew in size, and the Kodiak Naval Base sprouted into a ciy. Alaska was a lawless place; Russia's Wild West, if you will. But imperial subjects weren't the only ones to head to Alaska. Canadians, Americans, and even Mexicans flocked there as well. So, it wasn't long before the Tsar ordered the centralization of Alaska's government, and the construction of forts and railroads. This was a controversial motion, as people continued to question the value of Alaska as it was. But the plan was done, and foreign nationals were deported.

By the time 1900 rolled around, Alaska was recognized for its importance by the Russians. More naval and army base were built, and the Natives, especially Aleuts, were very much Russified. The lawlessness had calmed, and it had become a "civilized" land, with provincial cities such as New Archangelsk, Kodiak, and Romanov(Anchorage) reflecting their counterparts found in European Russia, with ballets, theaters, and museums. In 1901, after his controversial affair, Tsar Nicholas' little brother Michael Alexandrovich was made Grand Duke of Aleyska, and was sent to rule for the Tsar out of New Archangelsk in a form of social exile for his bringing of shame to his House.

1904 saw the General Strike of December, in which workers launched a general strike to protest terrible conditions, specifically in the rail road and ship building industries. This was put down by the garrison of Valdez(which is colloquially dubbed Valdezki) in a moderately bloody way.

Alaska continued to develop, and in 1911, vast oil reserves were discovered in Controller Bay. This lead to a second Gold Rush, called the Black Gold Rush. This time, mostly ethnic Russian industrialists invested money and moved assets to the colonies, to try and get a piece of the action with Gulf of Alaska oil and Bering coalfields coal.

All was quiet in Alaska for the most part during the Great War, as it had been during the Russo-Japanese War. There were brief skirmishes along the American border, and enough troops were distracted from the other front of the North American Theater to help Dixie, but no real territorial changes occurred. But in 1918, things changed. The Bolsheviks' Revolution had come to Russian America, in the form of a home grown revolt. In Katalla, Baranovograd(Fairbanks), and other minor towns, oil and railroad workers revolted, and established the short-lived Worker's Republic of Alaska. Quickly, the military was deployed, and fighting ensued. It was not long before the land held by the dissenters was taken back. In June of 1918, the Imperial government in Alaska was hit with shocking news- the Romanovs had been killed. The Grand Duke of Alaska seemed to be the heir apparent to the throne. At the same time, this was rallying for revolutionaries in Alaska. Dissent was quelled once more, seemingly for good.

In 1919, however, the home-grown Bolsheviks made one last move. During a speech in Takugrad(Juneau), the heir apparent to the Russian throne, Grand Duke Micheal, "Tsar" of Russia was killed by
Grigor Abshiana, a Georgian rail union boss. He shot the "Tsar" twice, before being downed by his bodyguards. The Romanov line seemed to have ended, and Alaska came under control of the Provisional Government of All Russia, with total military control.

As the Civil War dragged on, there was not much Alaska could do but hold its ground. White leadership and civilians were taken in as the tides turned in favor of the Bolsheviks. Over one million civilians fled for Alaska over the course of the war, and by the end 600,000 White soldiers and their families had been taken in. Among these refugees were two very important people. The Grand Duchess Anastasia, and her brother, Alexei Nikolaevich, Tsarevich of Russia. The two had miraculously survived the slaughter of their family. The bitter defeat at the hands of the Bolsheviks became a moment of pure joy, when it was realized the Empire would live on in this colony. In 1920, Archbishop Constantine, Metropolitan of Alaska coronated Alexei Nikolaevich. The 16 year old became the Tsar of All Russians. Not wanting to lose power to a 16 year old hemophiliac, the First Alaskan Duma was held, establishing a constitutional monarchy and a republic. The White Party was formed, and they dominated politics, and continue to do so, made up of the elite of the military and nobility. As Russia's elite continued to escape to Alaska, they brought the imperial wealth and splendor of the former empire with them. New Archangelsk, Kodiak, Takugrad, and more became mini-Petrograds of sorts, with ballets, theaters, and Orthodox cathedrals. The culture and finesse of Imperial Russia lived on in Alaska. The Bolshoi Ballet Academy was re-established in New Archangelsk, as was its rival, the Mariinsky Ballet. That's not to say there was not hardship. The economy struggled due to the population boom, and new arrivals often struggled to find work. But morale was high, albeit bittersweet, having in almost all sense of the word lost the Civil War. Aid was received from states supporting the Whites, but that did not stop what is known in Alaska as the Second Civil War.

In 1922, after the official end of the Civil War, the Bolshevik government launched a brief attack on Alaska. The Aleutians and much of the coast was invaded, but it was quickly repelled by a joint Alaskan-American force. This only built resentment between the new Russia and old government in Alaska. But it helped Alaskan relations with the US. The US was given rights to build military bases in the Aleutian Islands, and many free trade agreements were created.

Through free trade, the economy picked back up over time, revolving around the extraction of natural resources, and heavy industry such as shipbuilding and the refinement of petroleum. Anti-communism was as high as ever, with the White Party building support whilst simultaneously increasing authoritarianism socially and politically. This path continued until the 1930s, with the start of the Great Depression. Alaska faired alright during it, as they were still able to sell resources, at a lower price. There were a few downturns, and stints of mass unemployment however.

In 1935, the 31 year old Tsar finally married. He married Nadia Abamelek, of the noble house by the same name. That same year, he and his wife conceived and gave birth to a healthy child, Grand Duchess Sasha. The fun-loving "Baby Tsar" and his young family remained in the limelight, known for his unorthodox love of jazz music, and parties in the White Palace. All was to the behest of the ageing leadership of the White military during the Civil War, that had come to dominate Alaskan politics. In 1940, the Tsar and his wife had a second child, a son. He was Nicholas III, Alexei's to the throne. Just after, the Tsar suddenly and tragically died, having sustained a head injury whilst riding horseback. His hemophilia caused him to have bleeding in the brain and death. Many believe to this day that he was killed by the White Party themselves, to remove the Baby Tsar from power. His wife took her own life soon after. Obviously, his infant son could not take the throne. So Grand Duchess Anastasia, who had drifted into obscurity due to emotional scarring was thrusted back into the spotlight. An interim monarch, she was coronated Grand Duchess-Regent Anastasia of All Russians. The hard lady was not as well liked as her brother, and she only made public appearances when necessary. On top of this, she took a very aggressive stance on anti-communism, and often makes bold statements against the USSR and her "right to rule" over the lands under its control. On top of this, due to public pressure, she became the adoptive mother of Tsar Nicholas III in his infancy. She still has yet to marry, and most likely will not, despite her captivating beauty, much to the behest of...pretty much everyone.

Since then Alaska has continued to develop politically and economically. What the future holds, no one knows.

The Tsarist Russian State was facing much turmoil from the early 1900s. Civil Unrest was increasingly common, with riots occurring across the vast empire, instigated by the intelligentsia, the workers and the farmers. All, however, were crushed by the armies loyal to the Tsar, relics from an increasingly distant past. Many things changed in 1905. The people were much more organized and a revolution started. Before long, the demands for less militarism and more of a smarter leadership, became demands for the creation of a Republic. The Tsar, Nicholas II, had to compromise with the protesters, as the situation had turned very violently against him. Thus, a kind of a Parliament was created, however with the Tsar retaining absolute power. The Revolution subsequently ended.

However, things were much more different in 1917. Russia had joined the Great War in the side of the Central Powers, against other Western powers, as they were becoming more and more involved in domestic affairs. However, the economic situation turned for the worse, famine was widespread and the war was being lost significantly. The people once again filled the streets, demanding the greater independence of the Duma, the state parliament, from the Tsar. The Tsar, with help from Austria-Hungary and Germany, decided to crush these revolts. This, however, only made things more turbulent. The situation escalated much more in November 1917, with the new calendar, when a number of revolutionaries, among them the charismatic figure of Vladimir Illych Ulianov, also known as Lenin, a socialist with ideas to turn the Russian Empire in a People's Republic. The Tsar decided to send the army in St. Petersburg, in order to crush the revolt through military force. However, the army and most of its commanders joined the side of the revolutionaries. That was when the Tsar knew he had lost.

Lenin took hold of the numerous workers' councils, known in Russian as Soviets, and by early December of 1917, had controlled much of the Western part of the country. This culminated in the siege and invasion of the Winter Palace and the arrest of the Tsar and his family and trusted associates. By now, the nation was in a state of revolution. Lenin was the unquestioned leader of the country.

The first thing he did was leave the Central Powers and, subsequently the war. He made a harsh deal with the German Empire, which would soon cease to be. After that, he consolidated power to the Bolshevik Party. By early 1918, the Bolsheviks were transformed from an illegal party to the biggest faction in the former Empire. Lenin, then solved the question of the Tsar, which had been on everyone's mind for some months. The Tsar and most of his family were executed. This triggered the conflict, known as the Russian Civil War.

The war lasted for years, with the Whites slowly but surely being pushed out of Russia. The war saw the emergence of many revolutionaries, most notably among them, Leon Trotsky, a former Menshevik who had joined the Bolsheviks and had created the Red Army of Workers and Peasants. By 1921, the war had largely ended and the Bolsheviks were the unquestioned victors. The Socialist State, extended from Far Eastern Siberia to the Baltics, which had joined the Socialist State by fear of German invasion and support from local Bolshevik cells. Numerous revolutions were crushed in Europe, but in Finland, the Reds succeeded and the Workers' Republic of Finland was created, alongside the People's Republic of Mongolia, as the second and third socialist states after the former Russian Empire.

The Whites and their supporters took hold in Alaska and the war finally ended. Lenin created in 1922, the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics and instigated a number of social, economic and political reforms. The Communist Party of the Soviet Union was created as the only legal party but with many factions inside of it, with similar goals to the Bolsheviks. Lenin was very popular among the populace and was seen as a great savior of the poor and the oppressed.

Lenin died in 1929 after years of leading one of the largest states in the world. He appointed his successor by early 1924, Leon Trotsky who emerged as the most influential man in the Union. He continued Lenin's work and gave much power to the Soviets as well as the Central Command. He spread the ideals of World Revolution. Minor opposition to his policies were seen as unworthy of attention. Some people, among them former General Secretary of the Communist Party, Joseph Stalin, created the Right Opposition but it remained a very fringe group inside the Party, with almost no influence.

However, Trotsky threatened Germany with war , alongside the West, and the situation ended before turning to widespread war, which came to be known as the Molotov-Ribbentrop Crisis. However, the hatred didn't disappear, not in the slightest.

The war is 1947, and the Soviet Union is instigating revolutionary, Leninist reforms as well as expanding and upgrading its military.
