Ormata wrote:Would you guys be OK with a new faction? It would be, basically, a nation-state governing Portland and the surrounding towns, not at all large, and would have the origin story of a Vault. I haven't written it, but the idea's been kicked-about in my head for some time. This faction would be connected with the main one, which I believe is centered about the Mojave, by a "Diplomatic Mission", as it were, containing some twenty, I think, troops.

Appearance: Edwin Rivas has a very mediocrely tuned body, if one compared him to the rest of Vault 93’s inhabitants, and what he does have is pure, lean muscle. He does not, as such, have much fat on him, though enough to where “Military Doctrine demands it so you can survive among the savages”. His skin has a pale hue to it, from staying in Power Armor, and he has blond hair.
Political Alignment: He hates all the Savages. That is to say, he hates everyone not like him. If he were to meet a BoS, he would deem them acceptable. If he were to meet someone from the Legion, he would kill them. If he were to meet someone from the NCR, he would pity them.

Der Sturm: As a professional soldier, the man is relentless. Mentally he is as stubborn as a bull and does not accept defeat in any form it may take. His concentration to this task may be considered astounding, as he finds varied ways to combat threats.
Experienced: As Edwin grew-up in Vault 93, he was indoctrinated quite quickly to the VR sim trainers. These were, as could be expected, populated solely by Army training simulators, and he played them a good deal. As such, he’s experienced in combat a great deal, from Anchorage to a simulated revolt in Canada.
Well-Versed: He has read Napoleon, the teachings of Rommel, and the Art of War. As such, his knowledge on tactics is very, very good. He takes no gambles in his certainty of text, and reads on them constantly.
Bred for War: His training in the Vault has not gone unnoticed. The man is, mentally and physically, all but surpassed the view of those who merely chose to go to war. He has been told, all his life, that war was the only state he may go to, the only place he may thrive, and his physical and mental endurance demonstrates that. As such, he is relentless in combat and poor, at best, at peace-making.

Naive: His experience with the outside world has been limited to shooting at tribals. As such, he has both a derogatory view of the natives and a penchant for shooting at them. When confronted by traders, he often treats them with some amount of disdain and some amount of distrust, while simultaneously being very naive of the exact value of an object.
Weapons:
Automatic Rifle
.45 Auto Pistol
Cavalry Sabre
Other Items:
T-45d Powered Armor (Painted Red-White-Red in Recognition Markings). Reinforced with carapace armor from former US Army depots within Portland. Vaguely resembled a crab.
5 MREs (Or rather, the Vault 93 Equivalent. Contains foodstuffs in a heatable tin that provide ample nutrition for one day)
3 RadAway
150 Caps
Bio : Born in the Vault, Edwin came into his own on the battlefield. With a quick mind and an unalterable sense of “The Mission will be Accomplished”, he was, for a soldier, very, very hard working. He would, during the time of isolation, gain the rank of Lieutenant, which could be considered honorable at best and very meaningless at worst. Edwin would, still, command troops on the virtual battlefield, earning the respect of his peers as he was capable of performing in the Anchorage Campaign supremely. The man would, in fact, attempt to subjugate himself to the harshness of the program by knowingly prolonging it, pushing himself physically and mentally in the cold atmosphere of the area. Through this program he would become proficient in killing, as well, without regard for the sanctity of human life, which was thin to begin with, admittedly.
However, two years ago, when the doors opened, he was one of the first to go out into the world and meet the Savages. He killed twenty of them, on the first day, and felt, for one of the first times in his life, fulfilled. He would add a tally on his shoulder-piece, to each kill, and eventually it resembled chaos. He would, later-on, be sent to the Mojave with his squad, to determine Vertibirds that could still fly and “Procure” them for the Republic. Failing that, he was ordered to find such aircraft and their design documents and either copy or return them to the Vault for inspection by engineers and technicians.

The Vault 93 Republic began, as one might expect, as Vault 93. The Vault had, as most Vaults do, a specialization, and a previous history (For a brief period it hosted the Power Armor program and performed admirably as a training center). This specific Vault’s specialization was in military personnel; that is to say, everyone in the Vault was current or former military soldiers. As the conflict in Anchorage continued, the Vault’s to-be occupants, which included a fair amount of higher-ranking generals, decided it would be best to be on the same side, and so entered their Vault about two months ahead of when the bombs were slated on dropping. After discovering some “Issues” with the ventilation system (Vault-Tec had decided to test what happened when all the vents closed and the oxygen systems stopped working) and fixing those, they proceeded onwards, as the bombs fell. What followed was, as most Vaults did, a period of isolation, which also involved a series of conflicts within the Vault as several military juntas appeared and disappeared. The result was a highly militarized society and a sense of “We are better than the next schmuck”.
When the Vault opened two years ago, it was by clear decision-making. The Vault-Dwellers had tired of their Vault-Dwelling, and had decided that, if they were to continue, they would have to expand, somewhat. And so they did, performing the exact opposite of Vault 3’s experience with the outer world. Rapidly “Pacifying” the lands nearest to them, they took control of several key factory areas, and went to work putting their Pre-War knowledge to good use. The factories have, since, produced ammunition for the Republic. The city-state’s weaponry has been scavenged from several National Guard depots, and her power armor taken from the same sources.

So your faction is based in Oregon yeah? *Pulls up map of the American west coast* You'd be taking the 95 from Portland, down to Vegas so the first thing that you'd encounter in the game map would be the radioactive roadblock that prevents the player from leaving the area. Assuming that you want to start your story off with you first entering the area of course. After you pass the roadblock, you'd reach Brooks tumbleweed ranch. You could use that as your base camp.
Alternatively you could start off in secluded location like a cave, and make that your base of operations. Skip all the walking to Vegas, and get to interacting with people.

Or I could start-off in Beatty, and work my way to the Mojave from there. We'd have skipped the NCR people because, well, we're looking for advanced tech, and they equal us in technological power. Or I could just start-out in the Mojave.
Which would you recommend?

Most of the RPing is in the Mojave, so I'd recommend starting in there. It's kind of hard to RP alone, not much is going on up there.
