I'm not much good at writing old!Sep anymore, though. I revised so many details that the best I could do is probably a hybrid between old and new (especially since Septimus was pale during Dyste IC and light brown in PL, and that's only a minor detail).

I'll make an attempt if you can figure out some bullshit IC reason for Demens to pull them out.

I just realized since they disappeared from existence, having Demens plop them out and dump them in PL would complete the other half of a stable time loop (since they would disappear from the Building's history prior to Galli and thus their absence would make sense), at least until the ones who disappeared return (if ever).

But you're not allowed to use that one since I came up with it. :p

:P

Sep and Nes are necessary for the [redacted] colony in the Vetch. Got to get them on our side. Nes didn't arrive in Bielefeld due to Demens. The Nifid were dragged in due to the Drone War. We can easily say Sep got sucked in from that failed jump. So let's fuck with alternate dimensions.

Label Sep and Nes from PL "B Group". Their history carried out as established IC here. Group B has gone off in search of [REDACTED].

Label Sep and Nes from Dystan/Circuit and Spire "Group A". Their timeline hasn't progressed at all. They're still wiping glass and sand from their arms as they discuss Philip Andros' news regarding Ophelia. Sep still has his emotional suppressors on. Nes is still wearing her silly brown uniform and ugly boots. The Jeep is still a short distance away.

"What are the best options for keeping her alive and getting her home?" she said. But he didn't have a moment to answer before a catastrophic explosion shattered the silence.

Was it the entire ship? Probably not. Probably just a small compartment that went up like a cherry bomb the moment Phillip hit the switch to activate the door. But the blast killed them. Or it would have, had Demens not snatched them. Phillip and his companion were lucky. They ended up exactly where planned. As for Nes and Sep? Limbo. Demens needed to figure out what to do. He's not omniscient. Never claimed to be. He hadn't expected Fate to drop Sep B in Bielefeld, nor did he expect Nes B to turn up. Can't have both A and B there at the same time!

But the B group has moved on (leaving things not quite finished), and Demens saw an opportunity to get the limbo kiddies into life again. And so they arrived at the Gatehouse, still shedding glass and sand, and perhaps a touch singed, completely unaware of what the fuck just happened. Some chick manning a chair gives the spiel and tacks on that they were chosen to [REDACTED] in the Vetch. They'll find lodging in some Building if only they take a bathtub there. Perhaps we have some residents on hand to escort them?

While it would be funny to have Marcus spot them ("MOTHER! FATHER!"), or to see them react to an apartment obviously inhabited by Group B, it would push them too much into their old roles. Instead, they come to the Building, have a private meeting with Minerva, and set out on the greatest diplomatic challenge they will ever face.

PS she can explain her exo to him.

Thoughts?

Speaking of challenges - SWITH finish your goddamn doc so we can get Fortu into the game. NVE's waiting to play.

It works for me. *nods*

And yeah I gotta get that scene finished. I was stumped before someone small and annoying shared her flu with me. I'll peck at the doc this week, and swap out Fortu for Neil. NVE, I'm so sorry about the delay. Cer, did you approve Gretta's updated app?

As per popular and GM request, UA will be receiving significant makeovers so as to become more friendly and welcoming to outsiders. Consider this a PR campaign by the city :p

I'll be editing the OOC notes on UA in the coming days and also posting a list of basic laws so players and characters don't get into trouble. Please do your best to obey these and you should find that the citizens of UA will be pleasant and fair in their dealings with you.

Disobey and you'll have to answer to the authorities, as you would in any other city. We don't want this, so please just follow the laws I'll be laying out in a future post. Most of it is just common sense - don't flash weapons in the downtown area, don't go insulting or spitting at people, don't do magic without a permit or without telling people ahead of time, etc. Just try and keep that in mind when your characters are in the city and there will be no problem.

Oh thank Frog! I've sorta avoided sending characters in because you and Slo have been busy with other stuff. Rules will make it so (soooooooooo) much easier to do stuff there without having to ask you all to run the story. First stop: a coffee or tea shop to replace Minerva's broken cups! That's about it. New cups. Second stop: a grocery store for feminine supplies for the Building. I know that all sounds silly, but I've been wanting to write Minerva doing something mundane for a while. I get tired of using her just as an NPC.

Now I have the urge to write a Marcus one-shot. It has to wait until later, though. A nap is creeping up on me.

Highfort wrote:
Opa found themselves falling back into the sea of awareness after a long idle cycle - what creatures of emotion and biology would call "sleep".

They clicked and somewhere in the folds of Opa's drive, in the electric charges that held all that he knew, a familiar video played.

Opa had once used this to remember.

Sister-Operator Damia Gull was out-of-focus behind the soft, red cloth of the standard. She held it up, her head peeking out from the side. The operator flashed a smile, a row of pearly white upper teeth and silver lower teeth reflecting the glare from Opa's front flood lights. The other members of the team were not in the room - most were undergoing repairs, deep in the bowels of the maintenance warehouse. The team had just suppressed a riot on Johann's Corner, in Hemedon. Opa's face had been torn open by the rocket-propelled grenade.

A fleshy, stained hand reached out and traced over the new hole his facial housing had acquired.

"Someone knitted this for us after we saved that little girl," she said, and Opa detected notes of cheerfulness and pride in her voice, as they always did, "Amicus Populo. Do you know what it means?"

"People's Friend," Opa answered in the recording. Their voice was cold and mechanical.

"Mhmm," she nodded and smiled in approval, "The 301st is the People's Friend. We are the people's friend. You are the people's friend, Opa. Do you know what a friend is?"

Sometimes she did this, talked as though they could comprehend what she was saying. Opa recited the standard galatic definition for "friend", as recorded in some extranet dictionary they no longer had access to on Gallimaufry. Damia had just laughed in reponse, and Opa's requests for her to clarify her suddent shift in mood from pride to humor were met with ever-louder giggles.

Eventually, she calmed.

"I had Brother Volon down in supplies replicate this so each of us could have one," she draped the standard around their broad shoulders like a poncho.

"I require repairs. To my facial. Housing," Opa stated. Damia once-again ran her hand over his exposed plate and noted the missing parts.

"I'll put in a work order tomorrow," she replied, "I need to teach you how to drive. Command's issuing us our own armored vehicle so we don't have to deploy with everyone else. Guess we're celebrities now."

"Permission to. Request additional. Training," Opa said. Damia cocked her head in confusion, the camera that recorded the exchange zooming in on her eyes. Both were synthetic, though not as jarring as the cybernetic eyes that older cyborgs employed. Hers shimmered a soft blue, lines of text floating over them.

"Permission granted," she scratched the back of her head, fiddling with a loose cable and wrapping it around her finger, "You have to be the driver, anyways. No one else will fit."

Opa realized their mistake and modified the statement, "Permission to. Request additional. Training in. Explosives."

A small gasp left her lips. Opa noted in the recording that her pupils dilated in what was either surprise or fear.

"You... want to know about explosives... why?" she sputtered slowly, her eyes shooting over to the bookcase in the corner of Opa's little charging room. There were manuals upon manuals concerning maintenance and etiquette. Nothing on explosives or explosive weapons, "Did Garo put you up to this or something?"

"I was," Opa paused, and Damia tilted her head as she gestured for him to continue, "I was. Curious."

Her cheeks sagged and her eyebrows knitted together in what Opa recorded as an expression of sadness.

"Guess I won't be putting in that work order after all."

Opa now used this to ponder.

Damia had welded the makeshift plate on the next day and no one had thought anything of it. Supplies were low. Work orders were backed up several months. Brother Volon had even complimented her work.

"Now you'll be able to tell it from all the other Three-Bees that get shipped in."

When Damia had relayed that to them, she'd been happy, much happier than before, as though the statement held some importance they could not yet process. Damia had also referred to them as "My Opa" for the first time. Opa was unsure what explicit ownership had to do with any of this.

Opa paused as a new thread occupied their thoughts.

Marcus.

Opa had seen Brother Marcus tinkering with what appeared to be a Confederation-issue arm. They had not touched it, but judging from the absence of any major Confederation officials, Opa concluded that the arm belonged to Septimus. They were unsure what Marcus was doing with it. Septimus would no-doubt want it back when he returned and that would mean it would have to stay in tip-top condition. No modding or tinkering lest the arm be corrupted or broken.

Opa wondered why Marcus kept it out in his workshop. Opa only saw it once so perhaps Marcus no longer did that. Opa was not welcome in Marcus' workshop. They had learned not to wander out of where they were welcome.

Opa did not know a great many things about who they were or who others saw them as.

All they knew is that they were in no danger of being mistaken for any other Three-Bee on Gallimaufry.

Opa recorded their last thought for later pondering before slipping beneath the cool waters of idleness once again.

What did it mean to be individual?

Vespers' soothing cadence greeted the young priest's ears as he wound his way down vacant corridors towards his cell. His door softly closed, the thick metal stifling the haunting invocations to usher in silence. He laid his satchel on the workbench then paused to light an incense stick. A thin wisp of smoke unfurled from the red tip and curled around the picture frame beside the brass burner. This frame housed a girl frozen in time by celluloid and ink. His bowed his head to her. She smiled back at him. In the darkness of this dreary place, she was the only radiance to be had, and even this was nothing more than candlelight dancing off the frame's glass.

He sighed and settled at the workbench. Work awaited him, all of it put off earlier for sake of restoring a bit of normalcy to Torii's life. Little repair tags dangling from thin strings; the candlelight twisted the symbols written upon them into widened eyes and leering mouths intent on mocked his inefficiency. But this was the Moment of the Lamps, a time when appendages were to be idle so mouths could properly sing praises to the God. The mouth was to remain tightly shuttered if not occupied with that direct task. Before ordination, the young Marcus looked towards this period of the day with great anticipation. Worshiping was much better than toiling. Now torn apart by the emotions rolling inside him, he would spend the next two hours suffering in silence rather than inflect others with his mood.

He who desires to worship must harbor no childish illusions about the matter but bravely renounce his ego and humanity; That which emotionally controls us deprives us of Communion. If one can not clear the mind to worship in reverence, one can fulfill one's obligations by ministering. By this do you rejoin the path to clarity.

The priest rested his elbows on the table, then interlaced his fingers to prop up his stubbly chin. He became lost in thought. The verse did not apply to Vespers, of course, yet it did provide a solution. Sitting in silence was eating him alive.

Fingertips brushed against his workpad's touch screen. As he has suspected, the outstanding work order had not yet been completed by another Brother. Marcus shrugged off his dusty clothing in favor of fresh garments. He cupped a metallic hand around the flame to deprive it of life, then shifted his cloak's hood to conceal his head and cast shadow over his face.

The monophonic a cappella greeted him as he stepped into the passage. Marcus slipped into a practiced stride, each rolling footfall carrying him to his destination without so much as a flap to the robe's bottom hem - priests hurried with stoic dignity rather than ramshackle haste. He paused at FUBAR's doorway and took note of a fresh ash pile. The Drone's menacing red optics seemed to bore into him. Undoubtedly the Machine questioned his presence at this hour. No matter. Marcus bowed in respect before continuing on.

Overhead lights flickered to life as Marcus entered the Droid's cubicle. His hand swept past the wall sensor to command them off. No sense in allowing the harsh light to betray his presence to anyone in the hall. A quick spark from his fingertips caught a candle's wick. He repeated the action several times more. Now properly bathed in a warm glow, the room became a chapel.

"Good evening, Opa." The Machine's sensors undoubtedly detected his murmured greeting. Marcus' optic scanned the darkness to locate a recently-delivered package. "Looks like your shield has arrived."

He patiently folded back the paper protecting the flat device, and then inspected it for defects. There wasn't any need, really. The Brothers would never send a flawed object from their forges. Satisfied, he hefted the part and used a foot to brush away the remnant wrappings.

"My apologies for intruding during Vespers, but you need repair, and I need meditation," Marcus set himself before the Droid. Resting the shield against his hip, he presented a polite smile to the Opa's optic. "I guess you're growing accustomed to our strange ways?" The smile fell slightly. "I'm sorry, Opa. I wish I could offer things from your home. Must be dreary, being so far from the Confederation. I'm afraid I can't even offer conversation tonight. Not for another hour. You know how it is." He would have to trust that Opa did.

He affixed the antenna that would allow his processor to commune with the Droid's. His brain briefly numbed as both machines negotiated protocols and then, finally, his mind fell into a mollified state. Grief and sorrow did not exist in the language of Machines. There was only processors expressing states and issuing inquiries, or else filtering information. Raise limb, attach part, prime hydraulics, test, prime, test.

Though simplistic to describe, the effort itself left the young priest in a sweat. The shield was much heavier than he anticipated, and there never seemed to be to correct tool in reach. Unlike his patron's impressive array, he had only two retractable mechadendrites at his disposal and these, as Brother Adrastus frequently joked, were really only useful for slapping things about. Slap they did, scattering bolts and forcing Marcus to contort himself into a delicate balancing act while holding the shield in place. 2000hrs ended Vespers, and the young man's tongue loosened to roll off tame expletives.

The bell for Compline sounded and still he toiled, though he fell once more into mandatory silence. He was on the verge of giving up when the last connector, as though sensing his waning energy, slipped into place. The hydraulics hissed in satisfaction. Marcus rose from his squat with praises poised on his lips, only to promptly brain himself on Opa's housing. For a brief moment, the unsuspecting Droid found itself on the receiving end of the AdMech's secret tongue. Marcus emoted it well. In fact, he had memorized all of the naughty parts of it shortly after his processor installation. Flesh and circuit worked themselves into a frenzy as stars scattered themselves in his field of vision. The normally compliant AI inside him, disgusted at being jostled so violently, wagged a proverbial finger at its host before cursing the young man's stupidity.

Tssss! tssssss! PhhhhhK! Tssss! It was the best Marcus could utter under the circumstances. Sputtering like a maltreated cat, he receded to press a hand against his bleeding skin. A pain-induced tear squeezed itself from his closed organic eyelids to roll down his cheek.

"Enough clarity for the evening?" the tiny voice inside him grumbled. It seldom spoke in English but, when it did, Marcus tended to take notice. "Spacial awareness. Someday you'll perhaps acquire it?"

"Fuck!" Though muttered softly, the mournful noise conveyed his continued level of discomfort. His gaze lifted to settle upon Opa. Poor Droid. It didn't deserve such disrespectful behavior. "My humble apologies, Opa, I-"

"Don't abort!" A quick scan told the processor that Marcus wasn't in any mortal peril, though his body could no longer handle the pain.

The priest's pupil, already wide from the dim light, opened further. He pitched forward to flop down at the Droid's feet, as useless as a dead fish. The processor, unable to actually control its host, could only sigh its frustrations as Marcus slipped into unconsciousness.

Realizing that the antenna was still firmly planted in the Droid, the processor relayed its host's state before politely returning to English. "Greater Brother, your assistance, please? Drag him to a corner to sleep it off."

It's advisable given that the holodeck can provide an opponent rather than dummies. Also, any injuries incurred can be tended to immediately since the hospital is on the same level. Safety protocols will always be in effect against a simulated opponent, but when sparring with another character there's the inherent risk of injury.

Right now, its fairly rudimentary so if you move along, I think I can get my guildies on board. I wasn't sure where to insert my guildies in the beginning. Wondering if NA is having the same issue for Mag?

I'll set up the holodeck tomorrow. For now, night!

Semantics, one that shouldn't kill anyone, I hope.

If training is opted for, chars will need to leave their weapons at the door; the holodeck will provide.

Alright, I'm going through a creativity slump. I can't make any headway on the piece I was working on for Fortu/Neil. It might be best to send a team so we can get poor NVE into the game again. Sorry, NVE, I didn't mean to stall you this long!

To make it quick, we could have Fortu spat out the Gate and into the arms of the mission team.

I was going to do a quick setting establishment thang with Agy to set up the Chaos Restaurant. I'm afraid this is delayed a bit, too. Jesus God, this week has kicked my ass.

Lemme see what I can do.

Since Cuisine is gonna come back out (Chef in the Box surprise, get one with every meal :P) I can probably work with Agy on that.

To make it quick, we could have Fortu spat out the Gate and into the arms of the mission team.

I was going to do a quick setting establishment thang with Agy to set up the Chaos Restaurant. I'm afraid this is delayed a bit, too. Jesus God, this week has kicked my ass.

I could send Insidious on the Raptor extraction team if that's alright.

@ Tilt. Cuisine opening a restaurant? Count my characters in as patrons.

@ Swith. Take a break, gurl. Can't be creative when overwhelmed by other shit.

@ Prim. Won't be very complex but having Insidious at the Gate will help get Fortu to the Building. If you have Insidious' pager go off and then place her at the Gate, I can make a short post for Myra before having the lucky former raptor spewed into the room.

@ Gio. I owe you replies.
@ Everyone else waiting on me - I owe you replies. First night I've had that didn't involve work. Catching up on many things.

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man’s fears, and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination.

How soon would you need that to happen? I
Haven't been super attentive to the other story line.

PERSONIFICATION LIFE
CHARACTER APPLICATION

PLAYER INFORMATION
NS nation nickname: Atre

Skill Level (beginner, intermediate, advanced): I have some roleplaying experience as my now obsolete nation, Atreidun Universe, but I would still say beginner.

How often can you post? Probably 1 to 4 time a week.

CHARACTER PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Character Name: Deacon Marloww

Character Gender: male

Species (nation personification, human, alien, etc): Human

Age: 24

Appearance: He is six foot four inches, two hundred twenty pounds, muscled "farmboy" physique, blue eyes, button nose, full lips, straight white teeth, short black hair normally styled in a side part pompadour, normally dresses in "operator style" with tactical pants and vest along with a baseball cap sunglasses, hiking shoes and a pack.

URL to Character Picture, if any: http://www.sidestorygames.com/uploads/4 ... ig.jpg?323

Character Occupation: Entered a Security organization as a basic guard under his father's supervision on his eighteenth birthday, spent a year as a basic guard while training before being elevated to security member for locations abroad. At 24 he decided experience was necessary and wished to go into the armed forces of his home nation and had just graduated boot camp.

OBJECTIVES
Primary Objectives are your character's main goals. This should be the thing that drives their part of the plot. When not engaged in stories, these are what occupy your character's thoughts or keep them busy. Examples include: acting on a desire to become a powerful and respected leader; attempting to overcome some horrible thing in the past which hinders the character on a day-to-day basis; seeking to break out their shell by overcoming profound shyness (getting involved with stories); comping to terms with a major flaw that inhibits the character from reaching full potential; etc.

Secondary Objectives are minor goals. These should be an undercurrent for your character when they are engaged in stories or on their free time. Examples include: acquiring weapons and becoming proficient with each one; improving sundered relations with a companion; improving their reading comprehension; mastering news spells; researching a cure for a plague; etc.

Objectives such as "making friends" or "finding love" are NOT acceptable. Please put much though into your character's objectives - they are what flesh out your character and one of the most important aspects necessary to portray the character as 3D.

Primary Objective: His primary objective is essentially to build or take over a sizeable military or paramilitary force in his new home.

Secondary Objectives: He wishes to build a life, including a wife and children hopefully, in this new home. He doesn't care about finding love really so much as establishing a foundation in his new surroundings, though he wouldn't complain for finding love.

MUNDANE SKILLS
These do NOT require points. These are the average, daily things your character can do. Examples are "drive a car", "speak one Foreign Language", "play a guitar", "write poetry". Some mundane skills come from your bio and are freebie. A soldier has gone through Basic training. However, Medic, martial arts or sniper would be a Specialized Skill or Talent.

List Mundane skills here
Basic housekeeping, cooking, cleaning, etc.
Basic Marksmanship and Weapon Handling with a preference toward shotguns and Handguns
Basic First aide and Hiking survival
Capable driver
Capable writer

SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND TALENTS
These are specialized skills that set you apart from the average person. You have 7 points to spend here. Examples are swordsmanship, sniper, coercion, medic, wizarding, piloting etc.

  • Ability 1 and Points Spent: Perception, 4, for example environmental as well as personal and non-personal awareness capable of noticing minor changes and actions that hint at something being different, like sudden silence of birds, a shifted stance of a possible foe, etc.
  • Ability 2 and Points Spent: Athletics, 2, higher than the average person but nothing great he is a capable opponent in fighting as well as running or climbing which he enjoys.
  • Ability 3 and Points Spent: Manipulator, 1, Capable of manipulating others emotions and thought process in minor ways through conversation.
  • Ability 4 and Points Spent:

OPTIONAL SUPERNATURAL CHARACTERISTICS
You have 7 points to spend here on supernatural skills or abilities. Sonic Scream, Levitation, Spell Casting, Shape Shifting etc. Superman MUST have his kryptonite thus weaknesses are things which inhibit the ability. Restrictions are what can't they do with their power or what balances it. They can only use it when they genuinely need it? They can't use it for more then five minutes without serious side-effects? Some things are allowed without points. A pegasus has wings thus it can fly. A raptor is fast thus no points are spent in speed. These "natural" abilities should be listed here, however. What isn't allowed: teleportation beyond a few feet; the ability to alter or go back/forward in time.

  • Ability 1: Power Affinity/Weakness Aversion
    Power Level: 4
Strengths: The more power over his fellows and the more men at his command the stronger and harder to defeat he personally becomes.
Weaknesses: The less power over other men he has and the less command he has the easier and weaker he is as far as being slower and more fragile
Restrictions: He must be a respected leader and must have the respect of those that follow him as that is the actual base of his power that fuels it. He can never gain abilities such as magic or super strength from this ability but he can increase the power of his current abilities such as healing aura or athleticism to extreme heights should he build this power up. He does not know this power exists either.

  • Ability 2: Minor Healing Aura
    Power Level: 3
Strengths: Capable of Healing himself and one other in minor ways for a short time.
Weaknesses: He can only do it for a short time on minor injuries and only one other person and himself at once. It also intensifies the pain for both the victim and himself until he finishes attempting to heal an injury or does heal it.
Restrictions: many major injuries or traumas are far too much for him to handle and even with minor injuries the pain can make it a long and arduous task.

MAGICAL OR SPECIAL ITEMS
If it's not on this list, your character doesn't have it. Magical items are rare and hard to come by. Please list what they can/can't do - treat them like a supernatural thing. Items not allowed: anything that can alter time; anything that allows a character to teleport beyond a few feet.

List: His Lucky Go-Army Baseball cap
His favored Sig Sauer X five classic hand gun.

BACKGROUND
Be detailed please. You must explain how your character aquired their skills, talents, abilities, and special items. Wrap your primary and secondary objectives into it.

Education or Training: While living a generally average life his father was hard on him and railed on him about training and exercise and while he was not initially so hard on him about weapons capabilities and dealing with others, when Deacon turned 18 his father pushed him into the training programs available to all members of their security company hoping to draw out a few Para-military types. Following this and several years working security abroad he joined the military and went through the basic training.

Character Background/Biography: Born to a historic military family Deacon was taught from a young age about the importance of the defenders of mankind. His father's and ancestor's sense of martial pride and duty was ingrained in him from a young age. He quickly grew up, his initial instinct was to join the military straight out of highschool but his father instead convinced him to take his time and enter the company his father now worked for. While his father was far more advanced than he, taking part in jobs overseas regularly, Deacon became determined to reach his full potential. Completing the training courses offered by the company Deacon set himself up to head around the world for low key security jobs in global hot-spots. He experienced the chaos of being attacked for the first time at the age of 21 and would never forget it.

Upon returning from his jobs around the world and realizing he was unable to move up in the company to more important missions and roles without military experience, he joined the military and subsequently left for boot camp. In every sense of the word Deacon breezed through most of the training. His strong athletic skills and small experiences already in some of the combat scenarios allowed him a far easier time than his compatriots in dealing with the harshness of the training. It was still hard even on him and he came away with valuable knowledge and training he would undoubtedly need for the road ahead.

Power sensing
It's a good power, but I'm currently imagining Deacon as constantly freaked out. Especially if it reveals power levels. Even excepting OP/Co-OP/tool characters, some characters are rather terrifying simply because either they built power IC or put all points in one stat.

Not to mention, the Building is pretty potent...

Speaking of potent characters, while I'm a standard player I'm guessing you'll need provisions for not messing with tool characters - who can solve problems as such in tool mode partially because we players don't know exactly what their powers are or how to counter them. Swith's Neste, who has redacted abilities, would be an example.

On a less stilted note, hi! I'm Fvaar.
Come to the light side.  We have teamwork, waffles, popcorn, grape juice, and way too much ramen.

Unless one is a genealogist, therapist, geneticist, or FBI agent - who is acting within the scope of their job - to claim that anyone is wrong about their own identity is not merely absurd but also extremely rude.
