Romy's the leader. I plan to have Marcus as a general purpose character, tending Romy but also lending a hand wherever it's needed. He'll also maintain Opa and any mechanical equipment that needs fixing, per Adrastus' orders. That's his niche and Priestly duty.

Figure out what Drova's interests are and have him gravitate towards those characters. Magic? He could spend a lot of time helping Primordial, Sandy or Alexia. Logic and artificial intelligence? He might haunt Amara, although Cer plays her very aloof and unfriendly. Military? Romy's the best choice. Gods? Lucius or Giovenith, although if GT doesn't post or keep us updated, Lucius wouldn't be a good choice. Maybe the Jedi's meditative calm interests Drova? He might seek out the source of that inner peace. Or, he might be fascinated with Marcus' way of doing things, and try to gain an understanding of how Marcus ticks.

The only thing I worry about with him hanging with Giovenith is that you'll be tempted into general chit chat typical of the teen group rather than having him focus on any short term goals or growth.

Take a moment to figure out why he's coming along. "Because I'm bored" or "Because I don't want to be left out of a story" aren't good motivation for the character, and he'll be a lump (and you'll be bored) if that's your primary angle. Instead, figure out his motivation. He's a teen, which means he doesn't really have much experience dealing with adult shit. That means life hasn't tempered common sense yet. Add to that the fact that he's probably never been camping or on a long campaign. Poor Drova. Asked to light a fire, looks around for a cigarette lighter, can't understand why Alexia handed him fluffy wool and a flint. He can sulk like a child or take it in stride as he masters being independent.

Is he escaping the prospect of having to be a king? The more you run away from massive problems, the more they loom at the back of your mind.

Is he going in order to experience life to the fullest before the pressure of ruling gobbles him up? That would make him a bit cavalier, willing to take risks or shoot for things he normally wouldn't, like seeing how much ale he can pack away in the tavern before falling over.

Is he going because he wants to improve himself? He might start out like a fat chick on New Year's Eve, making resolutions to do better... only to give up going to the gym after a week of it. Or he might start out unsure of what he'll be doing, but determined to find his place in the world.

Harness his angst, doubt, joys and trials and use them to shape him as a person. Give him some quirks. Figure out what makes him smile. He's an awesome character to work with, and you can take him in so many directions!

To give you an example of how it all comes together:

Marcus is going because he has to. He never gets much of a choice. He's just a Priest. But his personal motivation is to get away from the Building for a while. He needs space. He needs to be apart from Thaddeus and Adrastus, because everything he knew about himself has been a quasi-lie. His father isn't his father. His real father is aloof and a total stranger. His nanny is actually his mother, and he's still hurting from the cruel words he said about her before he was aware of who she was to him.

Marcus copes by throwing himself into his work, deflecting pain by allowing his task to consume him. His strength is his relationship with Giovenith. He won't burden her with his pain. Instead, he'll work through it because he's determined to protect her. But that determination has taken on a new urgency now that he's realized the pain his mother suffered over her sense of being abandoned. He refuses to do that to Giovenith. He won't repeat his birth father's mistakes. He'll turn to Opa and babble his insecurity to him while he cleans the droid's joints because, well, Opa isn't sentient and can't judge him, plus he's a machine and everything whispered to a machine is heard by the Machine God. Ah, the security of religion!

Is Marcus focused on killing/pardoning the dragon-litch? Nope. He's not thinking that far ahead. He never does because life has taught him that shit happens, and goals change. He takes things one moment at a time.

Vroo is a quasi-character. But he has a bit of a personality. As a Chaos steed, he's seen some violent shit. But, as a minion of Slaanesh, he's also got a twisted nature. Vroo is finally, after three years, out of Charumati's personal stables. He's assigned to a human who has no idea what Chaos is, and Minerva has given Vroo orders to make sure Romy doesn't get into too much trouble without his powered armor to support him. Oh, dis goan be good. So my motivation for Vroo is not just comic relief, but also to serve as a sounding board for Romy. He'll advise him and, at times, balk at any poor decisions he makes. But Vroo is Vroo, and that means hiking a leg to piss on someone to say "I like you!", or finding books and scrolls to chew. He'll get into Sandy and Alexia's supplies if Romy and the squires don't keep an eye on him, and he'll be fascinated by Primordial's pockets because Chaos! Vroo also is now a quadruped with the personality of a playful dog. He still likes shiny things, and he still gets off on chasing his own tail. Gods help Romy.

So, my goals as a player are to amuse myself in unobtrusive ways when there are lulls and my character has no one to interact with. I'll use my character's goals and quirks to that aim. Marcus will work and do some introspection. Vroo will get into mischief. I'll weave those aspects into their interactions with others, and their mentalities will govern how I approach each challenge or conflict we encounter.

He goes along to be with the small amount of people he can tolerate/like to be around, and then finds out that it's not just some jolly camping adventure, and eventually figures out that he's got to take things a whole lot more serious. He'll go through the adventure, and maybe glean an understanding of how east he actually has it (Being a King can't be harder than killing a Dragon-Lich, right?), and how to deal with his doubts (Hey, everyone else is pulling their weight, better pitch in too)

Hello, everyone! My mammoth RL project is finally en route to the giftees. I'm catching myself up, and then I'll see about a post. (Or, if not much is happening, I might send chars to bed and try to finish apping Kwa'a before IC tomorrow. I miss playing her, and with all the sewing I (a novice, btw. I tend to get in over my head and am shocked that the items actually turned out very nicely) have been doing I think I understand her character that much better. (For example, waste-not want-not sort of philosophy. It takes a great deal of patience to spend hours untangling thread - multiple times - especially if more is available. She's probably skilled enough to not tangle often, but it's going to happen. I expect that patience had to develop over time.)

Anyway, obviously I am not sending anyone on Varg. I'll happily participate in Building shenanigans!
