It's not a problem but it's weird, does anyone else experience anything similar to this?

Might want to do a screen capture and post in Technical.

There is a fifth dimension beyond that which is known to man. It is a dimension as vast as space and as timeless as infinity. It is the middle ground between light and shadow, between science and superstition, and it lies between the pit of man’s fears, and the summit of his knowledge. This is the dimension of imagination.

North Warnborough
Business Directory

The Needle Nhezleeg
Business Type: Seamstress, embroidery, and weaving stall
Proprietor: Kwa'a Bhewehg
Industry: Textiles
District: Market, Divine Skein
Description: This stall's three "walls" are all formed by a finely-woven polyester cloth.  From a distance it appears to be a large design somewhere between plaid and gingham.  In fact, each palm-sized square is a woven pattern ranging from houndstooth to diamond-weave twill, with plain-woven solid color (azure, green, and red) and satin-weave linen-y cream squares providing contrasting smooth texture.  The linen-y cream squares are further adorned with one needle in metallic copper embroidery thread apiece. Clear repurposed garment bags protect both sides of it, as do secure ties and clamps at the corners.  A sturdy folding wood-and-wire frame supports the stall, as well as providing rods to hang items and hooks; three nicely tailored, loosely fitted garments at a time hang on the walls, along with smaller items such as handkerchiefs, ties, belts, and sashes.   The right side of the back wall holds "featured" seasonal items.  For fall, cropped suitlike jackets tailored in color-changing boiled wool and wide tapestry-woven ribbed scarves in variegated hues accented with botanical embroidery are featured; the former's buttons are covered with Kwa'a's weaving, and the latter have fringed ends.   Richly patterned lengths of ribbon (some tablet-woven, all ending in knotted fringe, 3 silvers/yard on average) and tough woven slings each fill a box; customers are welcome to dig through these to find ones they like. All items have a price tag tied on.

A compact inkle loom sits on the left side of a plastic folding table at the front; Kwa'a often uses this to weave ribbons while waiting for business. A measuring tape is typically found next to it.  A comfortable crimson chair sits behind and to the right of this table, with a white mound underneath - a slipcover tailored from plastic bags, in case of extreme weather or messy work.  A similarly-tailored azure vinyl tablecloth, reinforced with more bags and embroidered with yarn scraps, dresses up the table itself.

Portions of garments intended to fit snugly yet handle changing positions, such as collars, sleeves, and armscyes, are made of knit and/or elasticized fabric, either contrasting sharply with the rest or matched as closely as possible in color and texture; similarly, adjustable proportions are often built into display items via pleats and drawstrings.  All seams are sturdily constructed, with redundant stitching, and will not easily fall apart; thread color is typically contrasting.  Where possible they hold several inches of fabric allowance.  Depending on the intricacy and complexity of the work, Kwa'a's pieces typically range from two to ten times materials cost, with displayed pieces on the lower end.  Haggling is not discouraged, but such customers may find themselves haggled upwards.

All Needle Nhezleeg pieces incorporate a piece of fabric Kwa'a has woven as a design feature if not the piece itself, and a comfortably placed label with a geometrically stylized duck either embroidered/stitched on or woven in.  More items than those displayed are available: Kwa'a's phone holds a well-sorted photographic inventory of current pieces and archive of past items, and she'll do custom work at similar prices to items made ahead if she has time...

A onetime Resident who's found an easy camaraderie here among her fellow craftspeople, Kwa'a appears to be a rather ordinary woman in her thirties, and she might as well be here on Galli; apart from only aging at a very slow rate, her powers are nerfed.  She finds this a more than reasonable price to pay to spend a decade or three safe and content.  She strives to be a good neighbor; even though it may lose her sales, she'll happily refer customers to other stalls or stores if she believes that their wares are closer to what the customers want or feels that - whether due to lack of spare time or lack of knowledge - she cannot provide a top-quality piece.  Physically, she is an unimposing 5'4", boyishly built with light brown hair and skin.

Swith Witherward wrote:It's a cool concept. I like it. But it all comes down to how you use it IC, and understanding if someone is GMing and asks you not to use it (they plan to have the characters lost, or need them to do stuff for their own growth etc). Also, he might ask you to shave a few off Plant Manipulation (which is ungodly high anyway) to incorporate this. Coupled with plant manipulation, this is absolutely deadly.

I can't speak entirely for the Wold. I know there is a lot of magic in there. Reaching out might actually harm Kale, and it will alert the Wold and its sensitive denizens to her presence. The woodland, IIRC, is a lot like Pando. Would Kale use the power only to discover feeling like she's in a giant box with everything being interconnected and the same?

There are spots in the Outermark that aren't nullifying to magic, but the vegetation is not what it seems. As Neste pointed out to Brother Itum ages ago after he strolled through an embassy biogarden, "The clematis doesn't like you". :p She'll need to be very careful if she uses it there.

If Cer approves it, I'll TG you to let you in on some of the secrets regarding the land surrounding the Building. Squee! This is such a useful skill for Kale to have!

Speaking of our fearless leader... the last two workdays have been evil. He probably won't be on to review stuff until tomorrow or the next day.

Yes, that would make sense. She is searching through plants, and some who might detect the magic might not take kindly to that encroachment. Even if she is searching through earth, "smart plants" could feel it brushing past their roots. Also, the power is just finally defining something she already did before (feeling no life around her/ reading plants with a touch but that wasn't covered by her manipulation ability).

Also, thought of another weakness. It isn't instantaneous. It goes at a speed depending on material. It can go 200 feet a second if searching through plants. So a rough estimate would be 10 seconds to go maximum distance for each material.

And to the "being lost/trapped" concept. Instead of straight up stopping, the directional search could instead change direction randomly. So if she scans through a wall, hits air, the scan would go up or down or left or upper left. It would technically o the same thing, but it would take a few attempts to discern this and use up more stamina.

How I envision this working is, to use a Naruto reference (I know I'm such a nerd for the show :p), Shikamaru's Shadow Possession. His shadow goes at a certain speed and his range is dependent on certain conditions. Kale's life detection would act similarly, but instead of being limited by shadow she is limited by material (and how much energy she uses). The higher tier the material, the more resistant to scanning it is, decreasing range and increasing energy spent. Plus, its not a visible scan and the directional scan is closest to this example. The radial scan is different.

And 8 is really high. Take out the points from there and reassign to this. I thought a 3 was reasonable because she can scan pretty far on good conditions and exemplify the difficulty of scanning through high tier material like metal. Even an average user who practiced well enough can't go through metal without a lot of energy use. But given that she only used it a couple times in the RP (Used it once during Apoc Zalgo and another after the first assault on the Building), it can be a level 1 power. Of course, everything is scaled down to fit. Also, it might be better to classify this as a life scan/search because she can read/tell what plant/plants she has scanned.

I just realized. Unless her directional scan can sense something when it changes direction when hitting an impermeable material, then she cannot tell if there is a space behind it. So that should help solve "GM wants character to be/remain lost" issue.

Torsi, I'll wait for Gio to post before posting.

Where would you both like to head with this? I don't mind if the girls had a sit down so Torsi can work on character dev. I can move Marcus off so I don't stall you. If you don't mind me posting only once a day... and don't get too far ahead of me :P... maybe we can have them hit the town? Do a walking tour as they head to a nice place for a meal and some drinks?

It's 4:14 AM. I'm normally getting up around at this time. Notice the lack of IC post? I haven't been to bed. Project deadline. **maniacal laugh** It's 10:14 AM in Germany. Did you know? DID YOU KNOW?

Will post for Groundtown in a few. Need to read to catch up with Slo's story. Also need to code. And post an answer for the "redacted" question that came up in TG. All but Groundtown can wait until I've slept.

One-shot challenge would probably be best. We could use a randomization generator to assign swaps if somebody wanted to do it but couldn't decide whose to use.

Note: I do not want to write for any of Swith's characters. I cover them enough. :p

Two ways to approach it:

1. Someone wakes up to discover they're in another character's body. Dull. We've done that IC. Scratch that.

2. Players take over that character as if it were their own. They should make a little effort to keep canon. For example, were I running Giovenith, she wouldn't know how to use an automatic weapon properly.

I have a mad desire to do an Aegis one-shot. Prim, would you mind if I did?

OP notes for the day:
We've been gone most of the evening. I won't have time to code businesses tonight. If CoOPs keep track of what's outstanding, I'll hammer it out over the next few days. Might even get it done tomorrow since they owe me two days off.

Those who have asked about IAPA:
We're delayed. Yes, we still plan to launch. The delay is due to Swith's health and people's schedules. New org launches require a lot of dedication or they fail. It's better to delay than to launch and have everything fall through the cracks. Let's see where everyone stands in October. Agy will have settled into his course schedule, Swith will have finished her procedure, and I'll have a month to breathe before corporate slams me with 02 Jan deadlines. Tilt and Min can't do IAPA alone.

Drugs are casual pleasures to any Luxan but he isn't as focused on them as Insidious or Primordial.
Aegis is a soldier first a foremost, to him, sacrifice and murder are much better hobbies than narcotics.
Aegis is exemplified by his strong sense of physicality, martial focus and patriotic sense of nobility.
Each Luxan is some sort of archetype, Primordial is a scientist, Insidious is an artist and Aegis is a soldier.
