Zarkenis Ultima wrote:New app. Door Manipulation, at last.Name/Alias: Marcus Gates | The Gatekeeper
Gender: Male
Age: 20
Appearance: Here.
Species: Human
Backstory: Marcus Gates was born as the middle child in a relatively wealthy family living by the sea. Great expectations were placed upon him and his siblings when they were young, their parents procuring them the best education, and due to this, a drive to prove himself constantly was instilled in Marcus, who sought his parents' expectations. As he began growing up, however, his interests began to depart from what his parents had planned for him and his siblings. Time passed, and Marcus' parents began neglecting him in place of his siblings who were far more receptive to their wishes, leading him to become aloof and develop into a bit of a lone wolf, pursuing his interests on his own and exploring the city and its surroundings, staying away from home more and more until he barely saw his family.
Eventually, Marcus' parents began worrying that their middle child's vagrant tendencies would hurt the family's reputation, and so, they decided to set him up with an old acquaintance, a veteran explorer who often led expeditions across the world. Never one to feel ashamed of his passion, he accepted without thinking twice, despite knowing the reason they were doing this. During one of the expeditions he and the old man went on, Marcus and company found a temple buried in ice. The expedition went in, but did not expect beasts of otherworldly origin to be guarding the temple. Ill prepared as they were, they managed to fend off the beasts, but by the end, the only ones remaining were Marcus and the old explorer himself.
Despite everything that had happened so far, the old man insisted in going further inside, and though Marcus agreed, he began to grow wary of him. The two reached the temple's central chamber, and there, on a pedestal, was a golden mask. As they saw it, the old man turned on Marcus, stabbing him and pushing him away. Thinking that all of his obstacles were gone, he walked forward and observed the mask for a long time before attempting to put it on. This proved to be his undoing, as Marcus, still holding onto life, was able to reach him and take the mask away. Believing that there must have been a reason the old man sought it so intensely, he put it on, not expecting what would come afterwards. Knowledge of the happenings of the cosmos itself began flooding into his mind, nearly overwhelming him, but he was able to recover in time to notice that the removal of the mask from its pedestal had caused the whole temple to begin falling apart, entire portions of it being literally erased and then filled with ice. The old man attempted to take the mask back from Marcus, but was unsuccessful, and in the end, Marcus used his newfound power to escape from that place.
After leaving the temple, Marcus found himself across the sea, near a hospital. Hiding the mask and recovering from his wounds, he started coming to terms with his situation and learning to use his powers. It has been one and a half years since then.
Powers and Abilities:
- Door Manipulation - Limited to existing doors without the mask, unlimited with the mask.
- Enhanced Awareness (Without mask)/Cosmic Awareness (With mask)
Weaknesses: The bulk of his powers are dependant on the Mask of the Nomad; if someone else were to grab it, he would be left with just the basic version of his powers, same applies whenever he doesn't happen to be wearing the mask. Despite his powers, even with the mask, he is only human. His pride is perfectly capable of causing him trouble during battle.
Destructive Capacity: Street Level.
Speed: 10 m/s
Durability: Peak Human Level
Lifting Strength: Peak Human Level
Striking Strength: Class H
Energy Projection: N/A
Standard Equipment: The Mask of the Nomad, the source of his powers (though as the owner of the mask, he gets a small portion of its power without wearing it).
Intelligence: Fairly high, though his attitude often obscures this.
Optional stuff.
Theme song: TBA
Random Facts about your character: His biggest dream is to have a pet lion.
I'll try to work on some posts now.
