Character Name: Dorian Hasmerth

Age:18

Gender:Male

Race:Human

Nationality:Ydwyr

Appearance: (No pointy ears) Dorian

Biography: Dorian was into a large noble family in Ydwyr. Being the youngest child and only son, not much was expected of him politically. He was therefore trained in the military arts, expected to become a solider one day, and maybe even become an officer if he was lucky. However three years ago, Dorian's parents found a different opportunity for him. The Queen of Ydwyr was looking for a guard for a companion for her younger daughter. One that would be her servant and guard, but also her friend. The Hasmerths jumped on this opportunity and quickly offered up Dorian as a candidate.

Dorian wasn't too happy about this but he didn't have a chose. He was chosen and instead of becoming a soldier he was now the companion of the young Princess Druisilla. He was originally resentful towards the princess, as he blamed her for being made made her servant, despite the young girl not having anything to do with the decision. So at firs he acted a bit stiff and dutiful towards her, but soon he realized she was a kind spirit and warmed up to her. In his new role Dorian accompanied the princess nearly wherever she went, joined her in her students, and did small chores and such when she needed them. By the Princess' insistence he also accompanied her to royal balls and danced with her. Though this made him uncomfortable at first, he has gotten used to it and the royal environment.

Skills/Magical Ability: Dorian is trained with spears, and longswords. He is physically fit and has a protective and natural instinct that makes him good to have on the battle field.

Equipment: Spear, shield, steel long sword, armor seen in picture, various other clothes for different occasions, hunting bow

RP Sample: I like the Stormlight Archives! :p

Optional Stuff:

  • Likes: Sparring, traveling, reading, protecting Drusilla

Character Name: Prince Cerdan Argall

Age: 21

Gender: Male

Nationality: Ildian

Appearance: Cerdan

Biography: The third and youngest son of King Erdanen of Ildis, Cerdan was never raised to be king, and for most of his young life, never once contemplated that he might be one.

The tale of the brothers Argall is a sad one, for the love that binds brothers together barely grew among them, and showed itself but in fits and spurts.

Bradan, the eldest, was a cold and calculating child with empathy for no one. Cerdan was too often the butt of his ruthless childhood schemes, and as a result, their relationship turned toxic and sour, a loveless rivalry without any of the love brothers should bear towards one another. Roderick, the middle brother, was loud and domineering but also forgiving and sincere. A grudging love developed between him and Cerdan.

As the boys grew, Bradan's chilling and borderline-sadistic personality became glaringly apparent even to Erdanen, who began to favor Roderick for the throne. Roderick, a charmer and favorite of the common folk (especially the young women), came to expect that the throne would be his upon his father's death, even though by Ildian succession law it would pass to the much-feared and little-loved Bradan. Both Bradan and Roderick married, with Roderick's marriage producing a baby boy within two years. Bradan's marriage with Lady Norra Payne, as one might expect with him, was not a happy one, and produced no children. Rumors flew about the things the elder Argall did to his wife.

Meanwhile, Cerdan quietly proved himself a capable commander in clashes with Merag raiders, but has not yet taken a wife. The brewing conflict between the brothers has accelerated over the past year as old King Erdanen has taken seriously ill. Now, it seems he may pass in a matter of weeks. While Bradan and Roderick circle one another and gather supporters among the Ildian nobility for the war they know is coming, Cerdan's ambition silently grows within him, a tumor that refuses to die. Why not him?

Indeed, despite being the youngest of the brothers Argall, his nascent cause is not without its supporters. Edwin, the Duke of Androssan, tutored Cerdan in his youth and has the young prince's back in the approaching conflict. However, Cerdan will have to acquire other supporters if he is to triumph and take the throne.

Skills/Magical Ability: Has no magical ability to speak of. Cerdan is, however, a masterful rider, and is more than competent with a blade. Despite his few years he has shown a knack for military strategy and cloak-and-dagger political maneuvering.

Equipment: steel longsword, a fine suit of plate armor, heater shield, a bearskin cloak, his charger Norris (ignore the knight)

Yep, will do. Note, there is not going to be one big elven city. Simply small villages. Elves are a dying race, much more than even in LOTR. This is the last dregs in the cup, that sorta thing. But I'll get right too that. As for style, I'm thinking that there's an overarching plot, with wars brewing and more and more natural disasters, leading for an group to be formed to try and find the 2nd Shard. But they'll be forces opposing them, and I don't anticipate everyone joining in. So in summary, an overarching plot, but also free roam.

I'm about to get working on the elves, but if you want to write something up, you're welcome to. Any mainly-elven city would have to be quite small, and hidden from humans.

Kimatha doesn't care for the shard itself, but that would be a great piece of bait to use to lure people into ambushes so they can be chopped into tiny pieces, have the pieces moved into a pile and then stood upon.

After several days of mulling about, I have come up with a race-- The Forged Knights of Aidelbaum.

Name: The Forged Knights, though 'The Forged,' or 'Knights' will generally do.
Appearance:
Image

Origin: The origin of the Forged lies far back in the annals of history, dating back all the way to the second War of Races. Humans, as per standard, were losing. In fact, the entire human city of Aidelbaum had been slaughtered by the elves, but one thing remained-- the restless souls of the Order of the Kraftig, Aidelbaum's knights. The Order composed several thousand squires, knights, lords and staff. The final ruler of Aidelbaum, a powerful archmage by the name of Kapricus Cyrde, watched as the city under his rule was razed to the ground. However, as the elves worked their way into the throne room, Cyrde performed one last spell. A spell that altered the fabric of the realm. The spell cost him his life, and the entire city of Aidelbaum. He bound each of the souls from the order into a suit of armor, animating them. Returning the Order to life as deathless reapers. Aidelbaum's once lush plains was quickly turned into a vast unforgiving desert, all life sucked into the spell. The Forged Knights quickly dispatched the unprepared elven force, reclaiming the ruins of the once proud Aidelbaum for themselves.

A Forged Knight needs not food nor sleep. However, they are not without need for sustenance. They need considerable amounts of magical energy imbued into them every month or so, or else the armor will disintegrate and become lifeless once more. There are several ways to go about this-- the first is by far the simplest, all it requires is a living soul. The knight then consumes it, killing the owner and leaving them a lifeless husk, though this method can also be used to produce a new Knight instead, binding the soul to a suit of armor. The second method is by far harder-- it requires a special material, an exceedingly rare stone imbued with the power of Doregon itself. Torchstone. Torchstone was created by an exceedingly long and complex alchemical creation, which has long since been lost to the sands of time and as such, the ore has become rare. Because of the difficulty of the second method, the first is more common amongst Knights and as such they're generally seen as harbingers of death and destruction, despised as demons and shunned from society.

The life of a Forged One is hard, but not without redemption.

I'm going to be completely honest-- I really just needed a way for them to not kill people like vampiric suits of armor that was sufficiently difficult. If you want me too switch it to shards, I could be down. Maybe they're the result of some difficult alchemical process? Essentially, Torchstone is a rock that gives off a faint orange glow.

No, they can't be shards. Perhaps make it so that Torchstones get their power from a alchemical process that is lost to the ravages of time?
