Cavalry charges against massed infantry was considered a stupid idea in the 17th Century and their volley-a-minute muskets. Imagine how suicidal that's going to be when the enemy has assault rifles.
Even back in the days, cavalry was very much a flank-and-ambush unit.
Yep, yep. I very much know that. I do play total war games and only use calvary to attack other calvary, or to charge into infantry who are alrady busy fighting another infantry unit.
or for running and gunning basically, hitting them then running off.
