World of Conquest



The year is 1845 and the world is a very different place. The world is now filled with new empires and nations unlike any the world has even seen. Great armies, larger than any ever seen, now fight wars on all continents. Industrialization is taking root in the nations of the world and the world economy is booming to heights never seen before. Massive factories filled with monstrous machines are shattering economic barriers of the old world. New World nations, formerly dependent on the Old World for support are now powerhouses of their own. Now with the New World filling up rapidly, the world is turning quickly towards Africa. With its valuable resources and unsettled land, Africa is the new battleground as nations fight over land in Africa.
Over the past thirty years the nations of the world have been busy developing their own identities. With industrialization well under way and colonial expansion taking place on an unprecedented scale, the nations of the world seem to have enough to do. But with a large war being fought between the US and Mexico, all of this doesn't seem to be enough for the nations of the world. Will all of this be enough or will the nations of the world once more descend into war? It's up to you to decide what happens in this world, this World of Conquest. Welcome aboard.

5) This one is very important: take your time with expansion. Do not expect to capture all of Canada in a week...it won't happen.

Nation Leader Description (History and physically):Born in 1785 in New Zealand, Stephen Jennigs was set to live a charmed life. While his first few years were spent at home, at the age of eight he was sent to the best boarding school in Europe. There he was educated in the Classical disciplines. In university, he studied law to become a judge in his homeland. His parents, wealthy mining tycoons, left him with a vast fortune after their untimely deaths in 1810. Suddenly with a great amount of wealth, Jennings was presented with an opportunity. The government of the Commonwealth was forced to become democratic forcing the aristocratic class out of power. With this vacuum, he could rush in to fill that hole and become the most powerful man in the Commonwealth. After politicking for over a year, extolling his plans for democracy and spending a not inconsiderable amount of money, the people elected him in their first democratic elections.

Basic History of Nation:The Oceanian Commonwealth was originally a collection of colonial realms of a European kingdom that collapsed under its own very large weight. The colonies, suddenly without a central leader, banded together forming the Commonwealth of Oceanian States, commonly called the Oceanian Comonwealth. After, a brief period of instability, the aristocratic Rainier Von Hebbentrotz placed himself in power with the support of a cabal of aristocrats. Focusing little on the values of the people, Rainier set about rapidly trying to industrialize the Commonwealth. He forced people from their pastoral and agricultural homelands into cramped cities and made them work in unsafe factories, while these rural poor became urban poor, King Rainier and his aristocratic friends got even richer.
Finally, the people had enough, after Rainier set a law in place demanding that all citizens bow to him as he passed. They rose up in mass protests, the very cities that Rainier forced the people into became his downfall. His palace, located in the center of Sydney, was overrun by a mob of angry glaziers and he was killed after he threw himself from the balcony. Again there was a power vacuum only this time an industrialist, a relatively popular one, took power, promising democracy and a better, safer life in the city. His first act was to pass a sweeping reforms bill creating a democracy and setting many protections in place for the people.
Basic Summary of Current Situation:The Oceanian Commonwealth is currently in the process of expanding its Asian holdings as well as its Chilean holdings. It has an industrializing economy with an urbanizing population making it typical of nations in the time period.
Over the last thirty years Oceania has undergone a mass industrialization as the urban centers throughout began being inundated by new factories producing this or that. With the new resources coming in from Africa and South America, the newly opened factories are happily supplied. Trade within the The Pacific Co-Prosperity Pact has strengthened the Oceanian economy and brought it to new heights. Meanwhile, the agreements with Pact nations are speeding along scientific discoveries in these nation.

Basic History of Nation: With the Sicilian Empire collapsing Rome fell under control of the papacy. In the south the Knight's of St John found themselves acting as rulers of both their own fortress island of Malta, and Sicily, the seat of the empire. Looking for legitimacy with the Papacy, and with a Pope who wished for the Vatican to be more involved in the affairs of the world, the Knight's of St John took about rounding up parts of the old Empire, joining them under their banner. Rather than claiming outright control and rule over these territories, the Knight's claim that they are simply holding the lands in stewardship until a true Sicilian Emperor returns to the throne, a throne they will not give over lightly. Despite the annexation of Sicilian lands by other European nations, the Knight's were able to reclaim the majority of the military assets the old Sicilian Empire had. With these under their belt and the approval of the Pope, the first crusade in centuries began. Hopping from Italy to Southern Greece, Crete, Southern Turkey and their old homes of Rhodes and Cyprus, the Knight's (for all soldiers of the old Sicilian Empire had now become Knight's of the order) landed in the Holy Land and in the next few years captured many of the cities, including Jerusalem. Consolidating their power base, the Knight's of St John and the Papacy officially united to create The Papal Republic, the Knight's of St John's Grand Master acts as the front man and leader of the Republic, although most of the Order and the citizens know that the Pope holds just as much power in the Republic.
Basic Summery of Current Situation: Power consolidated, the Papal Republic is now looking at affairs in the world, Europe and Africa especially. With access to all of the lands considered holy by Christians and the power of the Pope firmly supporting them, the Papal Republic is looking at gaining more power if it can, either directly or indirectly...

Basic History of Nation: Haiti never dissolved as an empire in 1806 as Jacques I was never executed. He was succeeded by mulatto-born General Jean-Jacques Bonaparte, son of Emperor Napoleon I, in 1836. Haiti stopped massacring whites by enslaving them. In the same year, the Dominican Republic was conquered by Haiti and it's Spanish-speaking citizens became enslaved as well due to their Hispanic heritage. Haiti later conquered Bahamas from the UK in 1840 and Saint Croix from Denmark in 1842. Haiti is now fighting for world domination, which the goal is to form a black supremacist empire around the entire world.

Louis the XVII is sixty years old now. He is still the proud monarch of France and its protectorates. He has fathered seven children, 3 boys and four girls, all mothered by Empress Savannah. The Imperial couple have grown proud and very fond of eachother. The Emperors laugh has become infectous. His youngest daughter, Annabella, is his pride of joy. The little princess is often riding out between her father and mother. The Emperors hair has grown long and his eye grey. His hair is starting to turn blondish-grey. Louis spends most of his time at his winter palace in Switzerland near the alps. He cuts firewood beside his youngest son and will go hunting with his boys. He hanged the gun over the fireplace, but still oils it. Ready for any war that may threatened France.

The Empress is fourty-seven years old now. She has survived 7 births. Her oldest son, Crowned Prince Lucan, is her precious boy. He is twenty-nine years old now. The Empress is the most beloved consort. She oversees the poor villages and ensures that the vllages are maintained. The Palace of Parisia, where the Imperial Consort takes up residentcy during times of war, and when the Court needs centralization for a time, also during Spring and Fall times. During the summer the Emperor and the Imperial family go on a progress to see the country. During the Winter, the monarch retire to Switzerland and enjoy christmas with their young children. She has aged in her time. And she is ready to be done with the Imperial life. Her husband is aging. And her son is ready to ascend the throne.

Uniforms were being mass-produced and stored in warehouses in Parisia. Large armories were built and opened and rifles were being prepared. Bayonets fixed on the tops were put into racks. Canons were lined up in long rows. Their barrels polished and canon-balls filling crates. 3new expirimental artilery guns lined the rear walls.

Navy:
12 Warrior-Class Ironclad warships were entering service. 4 had been completed and the rest in were dock being built in Corsica and Sardinia.
14 new first-rates had left the shipyards. 8 were working on sea trials and heading to a naval armory to be armed with canons. 3 sailed for Marseille while the other sailed for Anhold Island.

Basic Summery of Current Situation: France is gearing up for a war which may build a super-power. Or end one. The bessimer steel system is flooding France with new resource demands as steel factories in Normandy are opening in great number. Mass-projects were demanding steel. Louis XVII does not know how much time he has left in this world. So he wants the world to remember him.

Nation Leader Description (History and physically): Adrian James Talbott was born to Irish immigrants James Michael and Mary Lee Talbott on the 22nd of June, 1790, in Cleveland, Ohio. In 1802, he joined the Cleveland Regiment of the Ohio State Militia, reaching the rank of Sergeant Major by 1808, when he enlisted in the United States Navy. Form of Rule: The United States is a Federal Constitutional Republic, with a strong Federal Government that delegates some power to the individual states. At the Federal level, three branches of government run the country and keep each other in check.
The Executive Branch, which includes the President, the Vice President, and the Presidential Cabinet, is responsible for running the various government agencies, such as Transportation, Sanitation, Health, Education, Military, and Foreign Affairs. The President has the power to veto Congressional legislation, which can only be overruled by a 2/3rds vote in both houses, an event which rarely occurs.
The Legislative Branch, also known as Congress, is a bicameral legislative body that creates laws for the United States. The House of Representatives consists of one representative for every 100,000 Americans, with each state guaranteed one representative. Each state also gets two senators, regardless of population.
The Judicial Branch, consisting of the Supreme Court and all Federal Courts, is responsible for hearing major criminal cases and civil cases relating to the Constitution. The Supreme Court has nine justices, appointed for life by the President.

Each soldier is armed with a rimfire version of the Sharps rifle, firing a .52 caliber metallic cartridge, and a Colt Dragoon revolver. A socket bayonet and Bowie knife complete the armament. The soldiers wear a grey jacket, grey trousers, a pickelhaube helmet with a grey wool cover, black boots, and a dark haversack. In the 1840s, the United State's still follows the rating system of the Napoleonic Era, using massive boilers to move their ships. The ships in the US Navy follow by rate: 12 First Rates of 120 guns with 875 men, 17 Second Rates of 98 guns and 750 men, 174 Third Rates of 80 guns and 650 men, 252 Fifth Rates ( Great Frigates) of 44 guns and 300 men, 57 Sixth rate river steamers of 24 guns and 160 men, 436 Sixth Rate Frigates of 28 guns and 200 men. (Note that the rating system is still used ONLY because gun turrets are not invented until 1860 and not even thought of until 1857).
Industrial Products: The Industry of the United States is slightly divided among the North and the South, with most of the machine and food industry in the North and most of the textile industry in the South.
Northern Industry includes, but is not limited to: Canning, fisheries, factory farms, smokehouses, meat packing, ship building, weapons manufacturing, locomotive and wagon construction, tobacco, timber, and livestock raising. Northern farms also provided the wool for the few Northern textile mills and the hundreds of Southern mills.
Southern Industry was fueled by textiles and mining. Cotton from Southern plantations and wool from both Southern and Northern farms boosted the Southern economy while improved transportation networks and better communications drastically improved the flow of goods and information.
Transportation: The United States boasted more railroad mileage than any other nation in North America, with every town and city of more than 5,000 having at least on train station. Larger cities, like Charleston, New York, Philadelphia, and Boston had train stations with twelve or more platforms. New York City's Grand Central Station had twenty one platforms, making it the largest train station in the country.
Paved roads replaced almost all US cobbled roads by 1845, with only small backroads and rural communities retaining the cobbled roads of decades past. It is hoped that by 1865, all roads in the United States will be paved.
Agricultural Products: The agricultural machine of the United States creates a great many foodstuffs. Most common are: Soybeans, corn, potatoes, beets, radishes, carrots, watermelon, apples, peaches, oranges, bananas, pears, cheese, milk, eggs, fish, pork, bacon, beef, lamb, and other assorted fruits, vegetables, and livestock meats.

Basic History of Nation: Formed after a coup in 1816, the United States of America first beat back an attack from Mexico during the Mexican-American War (1815-1816). Following the war, the United States embarked on nation building, building a first rate economy with rail and paved road transportation and Morse telegraphs for communications, and increasing their population and building a strong military to defend against foreign aggression. Slavery was abolished in 1839 by the Emancipation Act and the Conscription Act of 1842 called all males ages 18-40 to serve a minimum of four years in either the Federal Armed Forces or the State Militia.
Basic Summary of RP SItuation: The United States is currently at peace and is interested in replacing their rated ships with iron-hulled, turreted warships powered by more powerful steam engines and research into the Internal Combustion Engine (building on research going back to the 3rd century AD). Other research is being done to improve transportation and communications as well as mining and factories.
Basic Plans for RP: Continue technological advancement of both civilian and military sectors, forge alliances with larger nations, and become a world power.

In the south the Knight's of St John found themselves acting as rulers of both their own fortress island of Malta, and Sicily, the seat of the empire. Looking for legitimacy with the Papacy, and with a Pope who wished for the Vatican to be more involved in the affairs of the world, the Knight's of St John took about rounding up parts of the old Empire, joining them under their banner. Rather than claiming outright control and rule over these territories, the Knight's claim that they are simply holding the lands in stewardship until a true Sicilian Emperor returns to the throne, a throne they will not give over lightly. Despite the annexation of Sicilian lands by other European nations, the Knight's were able to reclaim the majority of the military assets the old Sicilian Empire had. With these under their belt and the approval of the Pope, the first crusade in centuries began. Hopping from Italy to Southern Greece, Crete, Southern Turkey and their old homes of Rhodes and Cyprus, the Knight's (for all soldiers of the old Sicilian Empire had now become Knight's of the order) landed in the Holy Land and in the next few years captured many of the cities, including Jerusalem. Consolidating their power base, the Knight's of St John and the Papacy officially united to create The Papal Republic, the Knight's of St John's Grand Master acts as the front man and leader of the Republic, although most of the Order and the citizens know that the Pope holds just as much power in the Republic.
Basic Summery of Current Situation: Power consolidated, the Papal Republic is now looking at affairs in the world, Europe and Africa especially. With access to all of the lands considered holy by Christians and the power of the Pope firmly supporting them, the Papal Republic is looking at gaining more power if it can, either directly or indirectly...
