Everyone was invited. France will be there, of course. Imperium gets spectacle, so it should be a wedding for the ages.

The Greater Dutch Republic wrote:Full Nation Name : Grand Duchy of Gotland
Majority/Official Culture : Gotlandish(mix of Danish, German, and Swedish)
Territorial Core : Gotland(the large island east of Sweden in the middle of the Baltic)
Territorial Claim : N/A
Capital City : https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Visby
Population : 20,000

Government Type : Constitutional Parliamentary Monarchy run by a Duchess(at the moment)
Government Ideology/Policies : N/A
Government Focus : Focused on improving relations with the Hansa Federation as well as improving trade with other nations, and attracting more immigrants to the island.
Head of State : Her Majesty, Grand Duchess Charlotte Eugenie Augusta Amalia Albertina the First.
Head of Government : State Minister Adolphus Dahlstrom
Government Description : Parliament is made up of 30 individuals that are elected by the people, the Duke(or Duchess) is decided by heredity. The Duchess and the State Minister(Head of Government and also elected) share the power and are checked by Parliament.

Majority/State Religion : Scandinavian Protestantism
Religious Description : Same as Sweden and Norway.

Economic Ideologies : Free Market Economy
Major Production : Foresting and Fishing. That's about it.
Economic Description : Stable. Trade with other nations is rising due to its strategic position in the Baltic Sea.

Army Strength : 500 soldiers.
Army Weakness : Very small. Couldn't defend against an invasion of toddlers.
Naval Strength : 10 Wooden Frigates, 200 active servicemembers
Naval Weakness : Still relatively small, and only used for the GEN(Gotland Economic Net)
Further Military Description : Well equipped and trained for a small army, mostly because it needs to be to stand a chance against their larger neighbors.

National Goals : Attract immigrants, improve relations with the Greater Hansa Federation, improve trade with other nations, maybe a colony or two if I get the chance.
National Issues : More immigrants. The population is way to small for Gotland to function as a nation at its full potential.
National Figures of Interest : The Duchess Albertina is the person who "liberated" the Grand Duchy, and as such is a National Hero and beloved by the populace.
National Ambition/Aspirations : Rising Gotland onto the world stage, despite its small size and population.

History : The Grand Duchy of Gotland is a relatively new nation, having only existed for around five years. Five years ago, the King of Sweden decided to give his daughter, Princess Charlotte Albertina, the island of Gotland to rule over, as she could never be Queen of Sweden. She decided that instead of staying part of Sweden, she would declare the islands independence. She did not think that the people of the island would support this move, however they rallied behind her. The King of Sweden decided to give his daughter a chance, and allowed the people of Sweden and Gotland the chance to vote on the matter. When the results came in, it was revealed that the majority of Swedes didn't care whether or not the island remained part of Sweden, while the majority of Gotlanders supported independence. The Princess Charlotte Albertina declared herself Duchess of the Grand Duchy of Gotland, and the people of Gotland, who broke away from Sweden because of its Absolute Monarchy, drafted a constitution that was accepted by the Duchess. This established the Parliament and the current government of Gotland. Gotland soon realized that Gotland was too small to function as a nation effectively. The Queen and Parliament passed a number of laws that enhanced the state of living for people in Gotland, as well as laws that gave the right to vote to all citizens. Another law passed gave religious freedom and equal rights to all people who moved to Gotland, regardless of heritage, skin color, religion, and language. A final law, designed to improve the allure of trade with Gotland, decrease trade tariffs, but established the "Gotland Economic Net" which required all ships from Hansa, Russia, Courland, and Sweden to pay a trade tax to Gotland. This has been especially effective, but has strained relations with, Courland and Russia, who rely on the Baltic as their lifeline to the rest of the world. Gotland also decided to improve relations with the Hansa Federation and not Sweden, to ensure that Gotland is protected by a larger nation.

Comparison Points – Political : 3. The people(aka Parliament) generally focus on government matters in Gotland, while the Duchess focuses on international matters.
Comparison Points – Cultural/Religious : 0. The religious aspect of the nation isn't regulated, and people are allowed to practice any religion they wish.
Comparison Points – Economy : 4. Government and people are heavily focused on improving the economy and trade with other nations.
Comparison Points – Military : 3. The nation focuses on the military little, but still pay attention to it and fund it, as it is their last defense against invasion.
Total Comparison Points used (10 Points MAX) : 10/10

Speaking of... what IS Liu's relationships with Laura? Our mutual lore is that they were unspoken rivals, and that Liu always felt that Laura... being Dutch and all... was undeserving of being the leader of Asian pirates. Did anything else exist besides this?

It does take a lot of effort to solve a crisis peacefully. But on the other hand it also takes quite some "guts" to go to war. I don't think there would be a problem in first throwing all cards on diplomacy and then if that fails shift to war (or the reverse for that matter).
Lenyo wrote:That can backfire. Bonaparte's superior armies said the Russians were savages, so they fought back like savages, razing Russian cities and farmland in order to starve out the French. (The Russians can out-starve anyone. Yes it's a competition.)

Thats true I suppose. But I would expect no quarters from the Aztecs anyway and in the rainforests of Panama war is going to be a brutal affair no matter what so that I am not so concerned about.
Oscalantine wrote:Dunno, dude. Aztec's application states that they just do better in surprise warfares and guerrilla tactics. If they are using what they can to their best advantage, I feel like it is completely out of the spirit of this RP to restrict this from happening. It is like saying to Koreans to fight in rows and regiments when CLEARLY they will lose. We rather let our superior cannons and firepower do the talking, and our soldiers can stand there looking pretty.

Diplomacy is nice, but surprise attacks are part of diplomacy as well ("aggressive negotiation," as certain senator from galaxy far, far away once said). I think that it is plausible and shouldn't be penalized in the OOC for such an action.

Of course... no one is stopping the great French Republic from retracting support from Aztecs should this happen, as it may seem "barbaric" to them. Neither does it stop Brazil from calling them out over international stage and gather allies to give Panama to "civilized" nations. But that is a step that the world leaders will make over IC, not condemnations and judgement tossed here over OOC.

No one is suggesting a game restriction on a surprise attack.

I never imagined them as having any more complex relationship than simple dislike and rivalry. Liu obviously views her as being worthy of being considered his "rival," though. He probably has something of an inferiority complex towards her which he may in part have tried to compensate for with his passive racism. There may also be some underlying chemistry there.

Sorry if I came off that way XDDD

The problem in this OOC is that it translates into IC for the most part, and some people believe that Lenyo's word is THA WORD for decisions. Often times than not, they aren't wrong... seeing as how Lenyo and I RPed SO LONG that Lenyo knows too much about me for ... my... own good. So I wanted to make it clear instead of having people bombard me with wrong impressions. Again... not saying that Lenyo said anything, just that I want to make sure this Panama issue goes smoothly without any OOC and IC and TG flame wars tossed around. 'tis a bit of a sensitive issue, after all ^^;;;

XDDDDDD That made my day.

Speaking of: Lenyo, many people think that you are have voice of Co-OP enough that people complain about it. Do you even WANT a Co-OP position? I always thought of keeping another Co-OP so that Helghan doesn't get overburdened when I am not around (Weekend, timezone issues), but I didn't know you want that positions.

Underlying Chemistry... well, that is certainly interesting. Seeing as how Laura and Dong-Nyuc's marriage is political... and that Laura for the longest time thought of little Viceroy as nothing but annoyance (until Viceroy decided enough if enough and drove entire fleet of Turtle Ships to her Philippines cove... then she was impressed at "courage" of the Eastern Monkey). So there could have been some time between then when Liu could have had some off-and-on relations with Laura. It makes sense to some extent.

On popular demand... do keep in mind that Persia isn't in because Persia hasn't been accepted yet.

Also... Israel's colonies are... well... it is based on Helghan's information, so I have NO CLUE where it was: I did best I could.

Lastly... Cap, you GOTTA give me a TG on where you conquered in Peru... otherwise I cannot punch that province in T~T. I have rules to keep now ^^;;;

Sorry to complain right away, but those French lands in the north of mainland South America were sold to Brazil. The islands in the Caribbean Sea are still French.

Yes and on that topic you have also given the Brazilian burmese territory to Korea, and that territory was sold to France as part of the aforementioned deal.

Yes I thought about td'ing you about it. Thing is the transfer of territory presumably would have taken some time so it may have not taken place yet why I didn't felt it was important to tell about it.

So I'm about to set to work on a post regarding the arrival of Courland's representative. Anything else I should address?

As for the map, it looks good to me apart from the fact that you seem to have missed the colonies that I specified in my app. I'll make sure to TG you in future if there's any map related things you need to know!
