Can I get a timeline of what has happened in the AFU conflict thus far?

Sure.

In the 1950's and early 1960's, the United Kingdom provided the Arab Federal Union with many millions of funding and aid, as well as training for it's military. The AFU was very close allies with the UK, US and the rest of the EC and NATO.

In the 1960's the AFU grew to comprise Egypt, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan and Syria. With this it's influence in the region and the world-at-large grew.

The AFU began to support anti-colonialist rebels in Morocco, and riots began breaking out across both French and Portuguese (not Spanish because of Spain's fall and division in 1949) Morocco, and a short-lived civil war broke out. The AFU placed their own operatives in as rebels, and after the war a small part (about one-third) of Morocco was given independence. Shortly after this, King Hassan decided to join the AFU as he was really an AFU puppet.

The British knew what the AFU had done, and the relations between the two began to become strained. Britain began to cut off military funding and aid to the AFU. It also began to fortify the British part of Morocco (a small part of northern Morocco, given to Britain after the war with Spain in the 1940's).

The AFU then held a number of summits with the USSR, and began to grow closer with the East. This infuriated the UK and NATO. A war broke out in Sudan in 1970 (it really had been going on since 1960, but it hadn't become big until 1970), and the AFU invaded Sudan in support of the Sudanese government who had committed various atrocities against Christian Black Sudanese, and other minorities.

The British had already intervened in favour of a peaceful resolution to the conflict. Ethiopia intervened to support an independent South Sudanese state. The British wanted Sudan to become a British protectorate or a UN mandate, and then have a referendum in some years to determine it's future status. The AFU continued to invade northern and central parts of Sudan, and planned to annex much of the country.

A war broke out between the three countries but it was contained to Sudan. Then Ethiopia blockaded a strait of water between Ethiopia and the British Colony of Aden. Ethiopian ships had gone into British waters, and the British entered into a war against Ethiopia and eventually this war reached Ethiopian shores.

Ethiopia began to pull out of Sudan, and soon the AFU and Ethiopia banded together against the British and urged the British to leave Sudan. After some diplomatic wrangling, the US and NATO nations voiced their support of British intervention in the Sudan, and this sealed the fate of the war. The British established a DMZ with the AFU, and the AFU was able to keep a northern part of Sudan, and the British kept the remainder of Sudan.

This agreement was in exchange for millions of dollars of aid to be given to the AFU, and the promise that the British would give the AFU the British Gulf States in the event of them being given independence.

A year passed by and the AFU began to grow anxious to annex the colonies. The AFU began issuing statements against the UK, and tensions flared between the two. The UK prepared to invade the AFU, and as this was happening a Christian group wanted independence for it's people and the British gave them $150,000,000.

Various countries agreed to invade the AFU with Britain, and they planned to do this after the conclusion of CHOGM in Singapore.

But the AFU decided to invade British Sudan, Kuwait and Gibraltar, and violate various treaties signed between the two nations.

So now the UK is calling in Article 5 with NATO, and they are pushing back the Arab invasions of their colonies, and then they will invade the AFU while the Christians declare independence and then the British will help them secure their own nation while other powers invade the AFU on other fronts.

How should I go about doing this?

Well, the British gave you $150,000,000. You should have enough money to buy enough weapons, vehicles, equipment, some aircraft and take over some land and create a fortified border while the British give the Christians some more money and then invade the AFU and help you keep your independent state.

So basically, take over some towns, cities, villages, and other areas in the AFU. And then create some sort of wall or fortifications. Make a peaceful declaration of independence. Then fight the AFU assault on your new country, then hold elections and create a government.

The man wasn't assumed as a Christian as he was a radicalized Christian when his parents got shot.
