The World of Zid: A Kobold's Tale
An Adventure Game Concept

The World of Zid, as far as a setting goes, started as a short story about a young mage, his missing mentor, and the Dragon Queen Eleanor of the city of Zid. Though the first RP was one revolving around merfolk. Specifically the character of Merla and the Kingdom of Shellbrand.

However it wasn't mages or merfolk that kept my creative investment- it was Kobolds and Dwarves.

My two favorite fantasy races in general fantasy. I have the idea of creating an adventure game focused on Kobolds, specifically the player character.

As with fantasy adentures in general the game will start out in the player character's home village. Where players can get an idea of what society they come from. Activity will mostly be social at first till the village get's attacked.

The statue of the Confederacy's founder is toppled, the place burns.

The character gets lost and finds themselves in a distant land, and wants to get home. Thus the player must guide the character through various adventures and misadventures alike as they survive and make thier way back to assist in ending the menace.

Star Trek: The Eugenics War

SPOCK: From 1992 through 1996, absolute ruler of more than a quarter of your world. From Asia through the Middle East.
MCCOY: The last of the tyrants to be overthrown.
SCOTT: I must confess, gentlemen. I've always held a sneaking admiration for this one.
KIRK: He was the best of the tyrants and the most dangerous. They were supermen, in a sense. Stronger, braver, certainly more ambitious, more daring.
SPOCK: Gentlemen, this romanticism about a ruthless dictator is
KIRK: Mister Spock, we humans have a streak of barbarism in us. Appalling, but there, nevertheless.
SCOTT: There were no massacres under his rule.
SPOCK: And as little freedom.
MCCOY: No wars until he was attacked.

The Eugenics Wars, an era of Star Trek lore that has been explored only a little with some changes having been made to it over the years. In the original series it was World War Three- in Enterprise it was a war to take place after World War Three, when mutation brought on from nuclear holocaust became public concern.

Be it selective breeding, cloning, or both by the early 1990s most of Earth was controlled by genetically engineered supermen created in a secret project from the 1950s whose aim was to create world peace through perfect people who would in turn produce perfect leaders.

Pan Africanist where among those to have such a superman as their leader, and it was during the late 20th century that Africa would unite as one nation shortly after the Eugenics Wars.

In general it's a time where reproductive liberties are small, sperm banks high, hospitals active in screening for defects, and in parts of the world imposing abortion should the condition of the offspring warrant it.

Physical Education from sports to sex ed are a focus, and the selective breeding of humans taught along side animal husbandry to illustrate the benefit of controlled evolution.

It is in this era of Martial Empires set to the backdrop of a world recovering from nuclear war that you take on your role as we explore a world that once was.

How does this sound?

STAR CRAWL: Jörmungandr

Star Crawl is a concept I've been working on with the aim of making into a Science Fiction Dungeon Crawler; though as I presently lack the funds and have yet to get up the gumption to initiate a 'go fund me' account I've been occupying my time with expanding the setting and conducting experiments such as this.

Star Crawl Jörmungandr is designed as a single dungeon crawl in the style of Dead Space III and begins with the simple premise of a vessel coming upon a derelict and claiming the right of salvage. This vessel will be the one from which the player characters are from, with the Derelict being a massive Battleship built by the Kosmisch Riech, a Space Nazi inspired faction in the setting.

It's an older model, shown to have been lost in the region sixty years ago. Though as with most space drifting derelict fiction this husk of a ship will prove not only a source of valuable plunder but a mystery and terror.

Being a themed dungeon the items will largely be those associated with the Kosmisch Riech, so it's not the best way to show off what the setting has to offer but It should serve as a nice little introduction/demo. For it is, as stated, designed to be a short dungeon crawl. That can end either in the player character leaving with what ever spoils they get, or more should they delve further into the derelict and put effort into restarting a few systems. The outcome is ultimately the choice of the player characters.

Pompeii.

For whatever I remembered the events at Pompeii and my obsession with them when I was slightly younger.

I've never seen any role-play on the Eruption of Mount Vesuvius.

I've seen Pompeii used in stories- I know a movie was made about it.

One of the challenges is providing players an understanding of Roman culture during the period, and providing a plot to distract them (to occupy their characters) even with the players knowledge of what is to come.

There is also Roman sensibility to consider and that even for Rome Pompeii was seen as... a place of vice? Which is saying a lot due to how prostitution, bloodsport, etc where legal in the Empire. One has to imagine what ills Pompeii was up to to have that reputation.

WORLD
of
ZID

II

Deep Dark

----

I'd like to announce that due to how much the World of Zid changed over it's (I believe) twelve RPs, that I have the notion and likely intent to launch The World of Zid II. This project will aim to refine some uncertain elements of the lore and establish the present state of the setting's world as I began to loose a hold on it as the RPs progressed. It's not a relaunch so much as a 'clarification and definement' of the world's present state to bring new players up to speed. Certain rumors are to also be proven or disproven- such as the Naga species.

To honor the setting the First RP set in The World of Zid II will be in the Kingdom of Shellbrand, and revisit the Merfolk of whom the first RP was focused on. To tie in with the new clarity regarding Naga the plot will center around the Kingdom of Shellbrand (or alike Merfolk Kingdom) and ties to the Island/isles of the Naga though eel like Mer creatures.

This RP will be an underwater dungeon raid focused on a sunken city located with in some caverns beneath the Island of the Naga. This crawl however will have a declared boss, and item to retrieve- as in the adventurers will know what they are going against and who they are after.

It'll tie in with the magics that created the Merrow, specifically the strange idol and where it may have come from.
lore says that long ago a group of Merfolk journeyed deep into a ravine where they discovered a strange idol from the surface, and brought it to their king. When night fell, all who had touched it went mad, and slaughtered their kinsmen in a dark ritual which opened a gate into a hellish abyss. They went in, and when they came out they had been transformed into the Merrow. Monstrous almost Merfolk like beings with an appetite for Mer flesh.

I'm feeling more inclined now, seeing how my original reasons for not putting the World of Zid on the group wiki was because it had only about three RPs in the setting, to add the World of Zid to the group wiki.

---

Also, how's this draft;

Deep Dark (Aquatic Fantasy Dungeon Raid Interest)

Legend of the Merrow
Long ago a group of Merfolk journeyed deep into a ravine where they discovered a strange idol from the surface, and brought it to their king. When night fell, all who had touched it went mad, and slaughtered their kinsmen in a dark ritual which opened a gate into a hellish abyss. They went in, and when they came out they had been transformed into the Merrow. Monstrous almost Merfolk like beings with an appetite for Mer flesh.

This story, told at various lengths and with various embellishments is common among the denizens of the undersea world. The story is generally told to dissuade young ones from going around searching for relics in the deep places and has become the folklore of many.

Greyscale
The origin of the tale isn't known by many save those of Greyscale. Greyscale, located near the Isles of the Naga, was founded around a sunken temple that was once part of that island chain. The Lorekeepers of the founders re-worked the temple with tools they found inside- turning serpents into eels. It became a site for those seeking to appeal to the spirits of Eels and this drew pods to it- pods that joined together under the Greyscale Dynasty, established by Melok the Greyscaled.

It was in this realm that the events of the story took place, and it is here that Merrow are most common. It's the threat that keeps the pods united under an imperial protection. Despite how the story is used in other realms Greyscale's adventurous and delving spirit hasn't faltered.

Greyscale has one of the largest collection of surface wares- most kept in a vault by the King under the protection of Temple Guardians- while others are being used by the living legends of the realm in further delves into the ravine, and for some to the surface where the Naga dwell.

YOU
You are one such living legend, having earned your fame through delves into the ravine, beyond the realm, or the isles themselves. It is here in Greyscale that you have met others, and it's here that a quest to end the Merrow has been proposed; for it's been said that destroying the idol, may weaken them. The Merrow are generally solitary hunters but their is a concentration of them, in a cave below the largest of the Isles of the Naga. It is here that a lorekeeper believes the idol rests, and it is here that you have agreed to destroy it.

This just got me rambling;
DON'T TELL MOM
I'M A

Image

Chores, Sports, Hang Outs, School, and Mad Scientists- such is your life. Your not the only one, and indeed many are far more well known- and your fairly sure that some of your classmates are villains; and probably blame you for something that happened, like- last week.

No one seems to be asking why it's teens getting these powers, I mean, sure their are people looking into it but they haven't been making the news as of late. Everyone seems rather appreciative of the teens too- I mean, one would expect an adolescent to use their powers for something stupid like posting a video of them breaking a car in half on MyVideo for the 'views'.

Really though it's the damaged ones that one has to look out for- and who threaten to cause the rest of us the most trouble. Like, if we don't do something about them the adults will and that could mean limits on us- like why do adults feel the need to punish all of us over some bad kids? It's not like we've ever seriously hurt anyone.

----

So, you have super powers- your in high school- and things are about to get somewhat different then how they have been these past few months. You've made a lot of new friends, and more then your fair share of enemies, but- everything has been building up to this. Each encounter, each success, each failure, every news story, and interview- it's now you and your friends vs the opposition- those who have been using their powers or ill. But the adults are not very open to this brawl and will likely interfere or try to stop it.

This is not an easy time for you as things begin to unravel.

----
Character Creation
If you've seen shows like Danny Phantom, Fillmore, or Kim Possible you know what type of logic this setting employs. The township is Philbanks USA, instead of YouTube they have MyVideo, and the world has the League of Nations along with numerous nations that don't exist in our world like Wallachia and Scandinavia- alright that's all the lore.

*Image will do in place of description but I doubt you'd find something animated looking enough for the aura/vibe/feel of the setting so I'm not encouraging the use of images.

*Do try to connect stories with those of other characters, this is a climax and literally the only part of the concept I had planned so I decided to dive right into it as a kind of 'It's not the End it's the Beginning' because I know from experience that if I start with a school RP and introduce powers we'll end up having too much chaos. I'm horrible at plot, so this brawl now serves as the center of the current RP- though the RP will start at the start of the day- before the incident. It might get averted- it'll likely not. While I'm into social aspects of this scenario I doubt others are.

*Look, I really wanted an RP that'd explore the day to day lives of these characters but I don't see that happening till the characters are established and this quick RP has been made to establish those characters. Who ever decides to keep playing after the incident will be given access to the next RP which will be closed to all but those remaining from this RP. Makes creating plots easier as these types of stories work best with established characters; and quite frankly I've had little luck with RPs where I make character for people to step into the role of. If I did that with this the RP would consist of four siblings.

So, I decided to try to revive Equalia... by going into it's troubled past. But not with a focus on the trouble bur rather on the adventure of four characters prior to the events of Frozen Home.

It's ... well, linked to it by this event;

The Great War was a massive conflict over deposits of crystals able to store Magical Energy, allowing the more magically inclined races; Dragons, Sorcerers, and Fea to boost their mana reserves, and the power of their abilities. Humans had found that the crystals could be used to give weapons an added effect; shocking bullets, and canon balls of blinding light. The crystals had fueled the conflict as various nations vied for control of the resource.

Interestingly I didn't realize how it was connected till reading the OP for Frozen Home and realizing what's going on in 'Before Equalia'.

Do you think you can handle everything at once Harb? You already have Philbanks on the list, and have expressed interest in attempting to play as a character again.

I do intend to keep Philbanks going, and I do want to play Elenor... so much so that- as I've not gotten an update from you on that project... that I've tried to fill that desire in some recent RP that launched. I really do want to play Elenor and I really do want to explore Philbanks :(

I had not head anything from you on the Elenor project so I- have not been sure if your still up for it.

You are right in that I may have started to over expand and need to focus. Perhaps no one will sign up for the Equalia RP- the setting never was very successful compared to Zid and Gamma World- I'm not sure why but Equalia mostly did well when the RP focused on the Enlentai as player characters- those RPs got the most players. But adventures like 'Before Equalia' didn't get such attention. Just look at Frozen Home- it didn't even get an IC up. Yeah, that'll probably happen.

----

I regret if this sounds paniced, I just realize that I was acting a bit *wow my train of thoguht deairled. railed de- derailed.

I apologize for my delay involving the Zid project, I've been focusing heavily on Philbanks myself. I'm interested, but I'm going to need what may be a lot time to get something up. I've also been waiting to see if someone has been willing to play from here first.
