It's not just you. Quite a lot of them are. But anyway, I was looking up figures for Iranian armies. I found that in 1900, The branch of the modernized army had about 80,000 infantry, not including cavalry. The figure in the 1850's varied a lot. I know, I know alternate-history. But that's a massive increase, maybe six or seven fold. I based my numbers on IRL figures from 1877. Perhaps, I'm just shooting myself in the foot by following historical figures. Not an insult, just a general observation. You're bigger than they are; (what with Afghanistan and central Asia) to be fair so maybe a two or three-fold increase wouldn't have raised eyebrows. Six or seven just seems excessive.

Seeing as I have no reason to fund a navy except for in the Persian Strait it suits no purpose making a land army my only defense against incursions from both the east and west. When a war does occur between us I only plan to use 10,000 at most.

It has allready been discovered twice. In ancient times oil was used as pitch and asphalt was used to seal up cracks in walls.

In 1847 it was first made into the source for oil lamps.

This rp is in 1850 so I think it's safe to assume it allready has been found and in use.

The Iranians faced the same problems IRL and they too had lands in central Asia, facing the Russians. It's not the size of the invasion force I'm objecting to. It's the size of your army overall.

Oh that. Well if we go by the wiki the first gas car won't be around for another 16 years, though we could make it appear sooner if someone is interested in rping that.

It would make the demand for oil appear a bit sooner. Late 1880s or early 1900s maybe.

And asphalt has allready existed for thousands of years so if someone wants to start making it into roads, That will help.
