History:
The Civil War
The War of the Three Henrys saw the death of Henry IV killed in battle during which the noble houses had tensions between them rising in such a way that a civil war would become inevitable. With Henry the Fourth killed, and the rightful claimants to the French Empire all capable of taking the throne at this point, war broke out between the noble houses. The von Hart, however, stated themselves to be neutral, but, in actuality, they were running a secret campaign of embargoes, assassinations, and stalling shipments of food to starve out the most dangerous opponents.
The Empire fell into a civil war, and lost some territory to the English at the northeastern border of France, and they were barely able to protect themselves from external threats that would have to be crushed at a later point in time. The Netherlands and Belgium united together, and proclaimed a separation from their client state status and the French Empire, and they became one nation. The majority of other client states of the Empire proclaimed individuality as well, and this saw France lose its hold over Europe as the dominant power.
With the great nation of France failing, the Empire would see themselves scurrying to maintain control over their colonies, which they eventually lost and would have to reclaim in the future. A sect of their navy separated from France to form the seagoing Harken’s Armada, which would go on to plague the world for as long, and potentially longer, than the von Hart dynasty would have control over France. Everything was going to hell, and the nobles were decimating themselves in a war that, supposedly, the von Hart were simply watching.
Already one noble house, the Valois, had been literally starved out of France, and forced to retreat through the von Hart’s campaign of stopping every possible shipment that went directly to the noble family. The von Hart weren’t targeting any military outposts, or anything like that, at least not as much as they were targeting other things, and were instead targeting those who were leading the militaries, which happened to be the nobles themselves. Meanwhile, the water supply of a major fort was poisoned by mercenaries hired by the von Hart, and it saw two housed aligned nearly crumble into complete desolation, and the remaining leadership of the other noble houses would only see the von Hart at their truly vicious form.
It wasn’t until a peace meeting was called, and a large majority of the other noble houses having fallen, that it became evident that the von Hart had an army capable of taking on the noble houses. While the nobles wanted to stand united against the von Hart, the heads of each noble house were captured and put to death to dissuade the potential von Hart enemies from striking out. This caused the other noble houses to submit to the House of von Hart, and it saw the von Hart begin what would be over a century of rule in one of the most capable royal dynasties of the French Empire.
After the Civil War
All of the houses that could lay rightful claim to the Kingdom of France fell when the House of von Hart laid a secret siege of warfare of cunning, horror, and mastery of the arts of the shadowy empire. Once the desolation of the Houses of Bourbon, Valois, Orleas, Anjou, and the other royal clades capable of claiming the throne had been completed, the ancestors of Elizabeth von Hart took the throne of France. Their seizure of such a powerful nation, and the fact that they were such a family of brutally intelligent tacticians and merchants, led to France seizing the various situations Europe would go through throughout the 15 decades of rule that the von Hart family had before Elizabeth von Hart formed her legendary alliance with the Kingdom of Aragon.
Underneath the rule of the von Hart family, the flag of France changed to match the coat of arms of a family now ubiquitous with a powerful rule of France and her various territories. Their military saw a major reform based on the rule of Efficiency vs Size that the von Harts adhered to, and the soldiers often underwent 6 to 12 months of some of the most strenuous training in the world to create what is often described as the perfect soldier. The economy saw the French currency, the Franc, have their coins be sistered with silver, gold, and platinum coins known as Precious Franc, each of them precious metals, with some being limited editions (platinum, and diamond/jewel laced coins, mainly); these coins acted as a safeguard against inflation, and made France’s economy one of, if not the, strongest in Europe.
The first two decades of rule under the von Hart family revealed that the von Harts were ruthless and calculating in all of their actions, and their subsequent defense of invasions from state after state, and sometimes even multiple at once, revealed that France was more than capable of achieving its goals. They were fortified for these two decades, with fortifications that would be updated and eventually replaced as technology advanced, and the capabilities of the French military expanded. However, things really started to get fun after the Era of Reform when the Era of Expansion came about and led to some of the most prolific expansions into the resource rich South America.
South America had become a continent filled with nations capable of achieving as much, if not more than, the nations that had previously occupied them due to the amount of wealth that each of the nations held within their resource banks. The Commonwealth of the South American Tip, an alignment of various nations devoted to defense against outside forces and deliverance from European reliance, was the target of one of the greatest military deployments in French history. The war would be bloody, and it would take a while for the French to recuperate from the loss of hundreds of thousands of lives, but it could be noted that their forces were more than capable of defeating opponents.
The French military abandoned the old honor system for combat, and engaged in brutal guerrilla warfare tactics, and various other forms of warfare tactics to utterly decimate their opponents. The Commonwealth of the South American Tip fell completely under French control after three more decades of the von Hart ruling the French, and it saw France gain a hold of mineral wealth capable of bolstering their economy greatly. After the conquering of the Commonwealth, and the Commonwealth soon becoming a colony, the French developed a new currency based around specially cut and marked diamonds and spice bags in a way much similar to the once powerful and omnipresent New Federation of Poland that dies out in the early 1800s.
Fast forward past various unremarkable conflicts, and 8 decades worth of history history that couldn’t be bothered to be mentioned (it will probably be mentioned later, and everything else will be given more depth), we’re faced with the dilemma of modern day Europe and the situation with Aragon. You see, the king of Aragon, Isaiah Benoit, and the Empress of the Empire of France, Empress Elizabeth von Hart, had met each other at a ball in the boarder, and fell in love almost immediately. It wouldn’t be until two months later when they met once more that Aragon and the Empress married for both love and the merger of two powerful, and highly capable nations.
This is probably what led to the predicament that the two nations were in now, which isn’t much of a predicament at all, and is in fact France preparing for the Second Expansionist & Reformation Period. This era would see the rule of two notable monarchs ruling a bi-state Federation led by two powerful states in Europe, and their brilliance would be cast upon their nations. However, with tensions rising across the globe it may only be a matter of time until French-Aragon is pulled in, or she somehow steps on the toes of another nation with her expansions...
… the question is, will France and Aragon rise and become an omnipresent nation capable of fielding thousands of troops anywhere in the globe, or will the lovely ladies fall and have their mainland, colonies, and peoples divided amongst the nations of the world?
