Are there any active hard sci-fi RPs right now? My main gripe with most sci-fi RPs is that they're too soft in science fiction terms, so I'd like to see an RP where the laws of physics still apply.

I love hard SF, but I never see many RPs of that nature. I can't think of any off the top of my head.

Probably because worldbuilding is a pain for people who aren't actively interested in non-fiction science.

Being a good writer and interested in science are rarely two skills that overlap.

I know exactly what you mean. I write a little, and I try to make it scientifically accurate, but I'm not a scientist, and nor do I have the money to hire a technical advisor. So there may or may not be inaccuracies in my writing.

I'm interested in more than that and there's certainly other stuff I'd be willing to join. Just for an example I've joined nation RPs in the past. It's just hard to find anything that really interests me because what often thrives in P2TM is not super interesting to me.

Another idea I've wanted to do is a police procedural type RP. I really enjoy watching NCIS and feel like something similar in concept could translate well to RP format. RPing as a law enforcement agent could be just as fun and action packed, again without alienating people who aren't as knowledgeable about modern combat as a good cop generally wants to avoid firing their weapon and when they do get involved in shootouts they're almost always at very close range and over in a matter of seconds so you don't have to write paragraphs about fire and maneuver techniques.

Well I definitely have some plot ideas for various cases that could take place during the RP. I think I have the specific location I want to set it in nailed down as well. It's just a matter of writing up an OP and hoping I'm not wasting the effort for nothing.

Basically, it goes like this.

It takes place in the 60's (rather an alternate one as an excuse to explain why so many spy villians have a high budget in their bases and technology they have), after the death of a top-ranking M16 agent killed during a mission by a mysterious organization. This sets off the events of the RP and pretty much becomes a minor focus of mystery in the plot. Somewhere in the United States of America, the government realizing that they have unneeded funds, decide to use them to form a spy organization which is basically the Illumaniti, which is actually less impressive in reality IC. Being run on the lowest of budgets in an abandoned train depot (as an extra savory detail, your first mission literally offers you gadgets that may or may not be useful), the organization you're in dedicates itself to protecting the peace of the world, while fighting off evil.

You can expect deconstruction of the typical James Bond films, a plot that actually based on an actual event in the 60's, and some black comedy in the mix (in this RP, you can even get to shoot the guy in the backseat for having a slide whistle while you trying to do an astro spiral!).

I was planning on making them a parody of James Bond, where the agent is almost flawlessly able to survive anything, only to be given the upperhand. Basically, his death is going to be something like this.

Well it's not so much the OP being bad that I'm worried about. I feel like if people are interested in a concept they'll join even without a super flashy OP. It's more the worry that nobody will be interested full stop.

I actually thought of doing a medical/hospital RP similar to House or Grey's Anatomy, but I figured that would be a bit too complicated. Though, I love to be a detective in a police procedural thing.

You'd have to set it up so people could be partners, and then have as many teams as needed. On the shows and in some of the novels, it's rare for one team to meet up with another team on a case, but it could happen...
