Eroris is practically Elder Scrolls but it keeps going and growing.

Heck, there is this RP setting called Equalia that is perhaps literrally MLP:FiM but with Elves, Humans, and Wizards rather then Peguses, Ponies, and Unicorns.

These types of settings permit and RP to attract more then the fan base it's based on as players tend to get nervous stepping into something they are unfamiliar with and typically if an RP is set in a world from a game or book players may bicker over what is and isn't viable in the setting. Thus a reflection/stand in version of the setting that doesn't need to address alternate history scenarios does rather well.

Magic the Gathering recently killed off my favorite, and my brother's favorite characters and is starting a new batch of planswalkers. It's in that situation right now where a lot of the characters are now dead and it feels a bit like a reset as the game returns to the first plane (the plane the first series of cards was set in). So if your idea is like MTG I say go for it regardless due to the situation MTG is in and the success of other reflection/stand in RPs.

I don't know. I have a complex about feeling like I might be copying stuff. I remember when I tried submitting something to the SCP Foundation once. Turns out I'd somehow copied Swamp Thing wholesale despite never hearing of him til then.

 Just think of how the creators of Captain America felt when they suddenly learned about Shield ? Those things happen.

Joe Higgins, the son of Lieutenant Tom Higgins. Tom was working on a chemical formula for super-strength which the Germans were after, and is slain by German saboteur Hans Fritz in the Black Tom explosion, for which Tom was blamed. After Tom's death, Joe continues to work on it while continuing his studies of chemistry. Joe finally figures out the solution, which requires applying the chemicals to certain parts of his anatomy (Sacrum, Heart, Innervation, Eyes, Lungs, Derma), and exposing himself to x-rays. This gives him super strength, the ability able to make great leaps, and invulnerability. Joe uses the initials S.H.I.E.L.D. as his secret identity.

Most ideas have already been used in one form or another, so it's hard to come up with a completely original idea these days, which is kinda sad.

About all you can do these days is try to combine existing elements in new ways.

Yeah I can't think of any RP I've done that hasn't used elements of other writers. Like most fantasy RPs used existing elements of lore from other settings to build it's world; like Elves dislike Dwarves or Kobolds serve Dragons. and even before that the writers of the fiction upon which fantasy RPs draw inspiration from drew from the folklore of the real world. Even spelling Elves with a 'v' can be traced back to Tolkien who got the idea from linguistic study of Germanic lore where he determed such to be the proper spelling.

Edit: So technically it can be traced to Germanic Folklore.

Even the greatest examples of literature and art are copied or drawn from other works, like much of Shakespeare.

I personally used to try and write similar to Hemingway, because I like simplicity, though I don't think that's quite the same. I don't have the same style as I used to anyways.

There are only four actual unique stories, everything else is just a mishmash or slight adjustment on top of them:

1. Hero's Journey
2. Man vs. Self
3. Giant Ape Fucks Up New York
4. Predator (1987)

Got to start again
Try to hold a trace of what it was back then
You and I we sent each other stories
Just a page I'm lost in all its glory
