Honestly, I feel Discord kills OOCs. And that kind of leads to death of the IC. I'm not saying Discord is inherently bad or anything, but if you have a server for your RP, then people start using it as the OOC (except for things like applications and whatnot), and the OOC kind of serves as a mental reminder "Hey, you're in an RP, write some stuff for the IC."

I've never even joined discord servers for RPs, even if the RPs I join have them.

I mean, I'm in a Discord for an RP, but it's not terribly active, and the OOC and IC are still doing well. Just my own experience though.

What killed my own friendships wasn't really so much inactivity anyways. It was more to do with politics and off-site drama that I honestly wanted no part it, but I couldn't really avoid it.

I mostly use Discord just to chat so as not to clog the OOC, and to plan out stuff on NS. I mostly post art and music

You'd be surprised what insight others can have on the threads, using discord to chat about the RP is a lot like being in a table top RPG and going to another room with some but not all of the players to discuss it.

It leaves people out who might have some input if the discussion was public and makes the actual table (OOC) seem less active the it could be.

Which is why a number of players avoid using Discord even when it's available.

While I've never experienced 'mods cracking down on chatty OOCs'; (as an RP host I love to see activity on the OOC as it lets me known that players are interested and enjoying themselves) I do see your point in regards to the above statement as I for one would certainly not want to see dank memes or none NS appropriate conversations on an OOC.

I know it's a bit of a different and heavy question, but has anyone been around on NS long enough to make some really cool friends, and had friendships break up over stupid shit?

Was browsing through my email and deleting all the unneeded shit when I stumbled upon a few emails from years back that I thought had been lost. It reminded me of a situation like that a while back. I know, like, three other buddies who had similar issues with longtime friends on NS. It made me sad.

I mean, I know it's "not RL guise just chill out", but it's still sad to me. Friends are friends, and I don't like to see people grow apart. Just finding some old emails and looking back at my experiences and those of a few others I know sort of got me on a bad track.

Though I was planning a raid out of boredom and indignation.
I even had fake aliases and codewords and schedules dolled out, kek. Silly old me had to have morals and feel bad about doing it, though, so I led on a buddy who was in the discord and let them find out.
