I actually really like 5e. I think it enables players to take more risks more easily without being as heavily penalized, and for someone who only plays DnD casually and with a group that focuses more on storytelling, it makes things fun.

Having never played any tabletop system, why do the people who complain about 5e complain about it?

Various reasons. Different people want different things out of their game systems, and a system can't be made to please everyone. Pretty much every significant aspect of the game has been both praised and reviled by different people.

My new year's resolution is to start an RP and actually finish it. So, I'm working on it now and will post it on January 1st. It will be a fantasy action/adventure/mystery story.

That's an incredibly honest description XD

Some people like complex, some people like simple. Some want grindy gruesome combat and others want eloquent loquacious roleplay, and some people just want to play a video game. There's a game for every style but it's rarely the same.

FWIW, I'm only so attached to 5E because it's how I learned tabletop games in general, so I base all new experiences on that as a base. Sometimes it helps rationalize things, other times it fails to click.

Ok. If you want fantasy, talk to G-Tech, who, if IIRC, does quite a bit of fantasy. Also, Happy New Year!

I can neither confirm nor deny this statement ;)

Actually, iirc, essentially all of our P2TM Mentors do fantasy to one extent or another.

That really puts it into perspective how dominant the fantasy genre is here and why nobody can help me make the RPs I want to see.
