Now as for why it was capped and the other was not I am unsure, since two different people made that decision. Why I capped your increase was because I was picturing you were aiming to recruit the best of the best thus the best of the best would be in limited numbers and would be picky about their choices in employers. A five in that case was it sounded good to some but not enough for others. If I thought that you were just willing to recruit any random person who happens to call themselves a merc I wouldn't have capped it.

While for the soldiers thing under the one Faal did I am, again, unsure but if I had to justify it is that he was just recruiting random grunts, cannon fodder basically not a professional soldier which is symbolized by the officers recruitment being separate from the main. So they are not specialists by virtue of not having any power and just being random people who have a gun, so similar if one recruited the State of Texas. Again that is my guess but I think it makes sense. I honestly had no power in that and I assumed that is the method Faal used.

Then how are militiamen, who have less training than these soldiers, considered "specialists"? And, were any of my rolls affected by these specialists?

I questioned the last one as well but meh watching a regular person try to blow up a ships sounds pretty funny, and a lot like a hit action film.

Good luck bringing a random follower with a bomb into the sea and onboard of one of the many navies`s ships.
I`m curious from where this follower is coming. From the UK or from Sweden. If he comes from Sweden I wonder how he got so far out into the waters. If he came from the UK I wonder why his boat hasn`t been sunk.

There was one time the same player rolled a 1 on studying the plague. He lost 3 followers, and that was it. If a 1 can cause the net Spanish flu, then there maybe should have been more dire consequences.

Aye, but an OP or Co-Op wouldn't do something as nitwit as roll for that.

There's obviously flaws because this wasn't designed as a mechanics RP. We added them in as a fun tidbit. It's like playing a boardgame, you could shout out how many spaces you went but a dice adds to the chaos that makes it fun.

The dice is making it anything but fun. It is a poor attempt at putting railroads on the plot, but without actually putting nails on rail boards.

Why does a 1, in one instance, cause violent civil war and anarchy claiming the live of tens of thousands, cause the next Spanish flu, and then, the next time, it causes 3 people to die in a minor accident?

There is no logical consistency to the consequences. A board game has clear guidelines on what the results of dice rolls means. This doesn't.

Exelia wrote:No, but the plague is spreading across all the continents and killing thousands while destabilizing whole countries. When you can achieve those kinds of results, why do you need specialists?

The answer is that it isn't and whoever said it WAS spreading across the continents is wrong.

Exelia wrote:It is swearing adherence to an outside deity that runs contrary both to their oaths to the military and the native Islamic traditions.[/quotes]

Religion was mostly abolished besides a few hold outs so violating Islamic traditions is not relevant. This is supposed to be set in sometime in the future after all. As for their military oaths unless it explicitly says "I will swear allegiance to no God" they are not violating it.

Exelia wrote:The Prime Minister joining is huge, and wildly unbalanced. Could the President of the US be converted on a ten? How about the Russian president? Or the Japanese Emperor? None of these questions have clear answers. By this logic I could keep rolling again and again while trying to convert Obama until a get a 10 - in which case, now the entire US military is under my control.

The Prime Minister was gained by lucky circumstances. He was visiting a dojo and met Taniko, talked for a bit, (not a follower and that was a 9) and he converted later (during a state sponsered program run by Taniko that the Prime Minister watched thanks to a 10 which was a follow up of a 10 which combined with the 9). Under normal circumstances no you will not convert the president of ANY country unless you A. have access to the person through your followers or B. you take over the country and make them bow down to you pretty much.

Exelia wrote:That is fine when you are dealing with clearly numerical quantities. But this makes less sense when we are talking about converting people. Say Flame didn't get a ten, and instead rolled a 9 - would the Chief still be converted? A person either covnerts or doesn't - what is the difference between a 6 or 7 on their conversion?

No Flame wouldn't have if Flame got a 9. And the answer is the difference is only if a 7 is the bare minimum needed for success. And a 6 isn't then a 6 would fail while a 7 would squeak by. Yes it can be arbitrary but the world is complex enough that a case by case basis is somewhat more appropriate. Especially since virtually each God is a wildly different individual and each circumstance is different too.

Exelia wrote:And this is the major problem that, more orless, renders the entire dice system useless. This incentivizes players to make long, convulsed numbers of dice rolls until they get a "saving throw". There was no point to the 2 because Amalia got an 8. Might as well have just rolled an 8. You just spam as many rolls as you can, since there is no cap to them, until you get the rolls you want.

Incorrect. The Saving Throw was made because another roll needs to be made. The saving throw was a poor choice of words. The roll was to determine what would happen after the failure of the previous one. I could have left it off with "2: adamant refusal security is called" But what then? Another roll was needed to be made because then just about anything could have happened so it needed to be determined. So a followup roll was made and it was an 8 which meant you managed to recover. that is all that I meant by the words saving throw.

Exelia wrote:What determines how much it takes to covert one person or a different person? For the admiral you wildly threw in a different person that wasn't even expected to be on the roll. Could I accidentally convert the US President when I am trying to convince a Senator?

I don't think it is a wildly different person because the Chief of the Navy in every country where the President isn't the only one in charge of the military is supposed to be of Admiral, or at least Vice-Admiral, rank. The kind of Admiral recruited was never specified and not every sailor is an Admiral. And no you most likely wouldn't because the President doesn't spend every day visiting Senators and you would pretty much need to meet with the president himself to recruit him.

Celivaia wrote:"Today is a great day.
