From what I could gather, they're roughly as intelligent. Also, I already discussed my char with Tri, so...

Interestingly enough, since the second generation of Partials born after The End, the children of the bio organic menaces have been said to show creativity, reason, and are even capable of speech. The implications of this has frightened, as well as fascinated, the human survivors of the Deathlands.

Maybe its just me but it doesn't strike me as they're as intelligent. Maybe as intelligent as a 10 year old comparatively. I mean, Partials were not meant to be reusable weapons. They were fire and forget. Besides if we don't have some restrictions on them we're going to have nothing but Partials clogging up the RP.

We never really did address the intelligence of second generation Partials. What exactly about Arana's app challenges my description of Partials?

Well what you could say, is that it depends quite a bit on the raising of said partial. Like if a partial is born to a first gen partial that's basically a wild animal than the second gen would act like maybe a slightly smarter than average animal as well. Like humans who are raised by wolves act like wolves anyway.

So people are saying "oh these second gen partials are maybe a little bit human, they're definitely a bit smarter" because their seeing ones that were raised by wild animals. Whereas if you got a second gen partial and humans raised it to be as intelligent as people than maybe it could be. SO that gives people a little bit of scope to either be mostly feral or basically human but with Kawaii as fuck cat ears or whatever.

Also just a thought for Arana, a 15 year old prostitute might not be the best idea. A fifteen year old genetic abomination prostitute is even worse. Every client is basically a pedo who's into bestiality. Which is super fucking gross. Just a thought. Now I shall return to sleep and stop whining about your app. Toodles.

While I'm still online, I'd like to brainstorm some general ideas for IC events with you guys. Under Rob's guidance, we're going to treat the RP like a free-roam sandbox. At the same time, I want to have some storys, beside the main one, that you guys can do when you get bored running around 'Frisco. I have a few ideas already, but before I show my hand, I would like to hear some off the top of your heads.

We're trying to like... get to a place right? My vague suggestion would be a sort of scavenger hunt of plot items needed to get where we're going, stuff like 'the party has to go to X to find out where Eureka is and to Y to steal, barter for or somehow earn a vehicle, but oh no! the vehicle needs a very special replacement part that only Z faction is know to have. As we hit these objections we could potentially be pissing off more and more factions and people, making random eventsl ike being ambushed by bounty hunters or pursued by militia more frequent.

basicly; you are suggesting fetch quests?
personally, i hate fetch quests....
FT, but roam where i please
It does not reflect my real life world political views, which are considerably less authoritarian and more moderate
Refer to my factbook for canon, it´s however out of date, and badly written. So take it with a grain of salt

Well broadly yes. How the items in question are actualy fetched is pretty flexible. It's just an easy way to justify going to lots of different, dangerous places the characters wouldn't necessarily elect to go for no reason in potentially any order they want.

@Altannia, thanks for that solution. I can't believe I overlooked that :p must be more tired than I thought. The groups will most certainty need vehicles, supplies and information to make it to the East Coast. Such missions might be even more fun if we pit the groups against each other, as each competes to get the required things from a finite supply of resources in 'Frisco.

@Tophat, I get your hesitation. After playing Skyrim, I'm not a fan of fetch quests either. That said, I'll won't give players something to do if its not fun and a chore. RP shouldn't be all about the grind :p

I mean I'm sure we can come up with better writing than "Yo dragonborn / arch mage of the mages guild / listener of the dark brotherhood / leader of the companions / master thief. Go ahead and fetch me five sprigs of lavendar, there's a ption and whatever loose change I have in my pockets in it for you so make it snappy"

Oh and I dig the picture you found for the Durg'nacht, and noted the typo.

Oh and I started an app or whatever.

Character Creation Sheet
Required Information

Picture Appearance:
Image

Character Name: Mako Umewari
Nation Name: Atlannia
Sex: female
Ethnicity|Nationality: Japanese | American
Race: Mako is a second generation partial, her DNA sharing many similarities with (duh) the longfin mako shark. The perks are a handy set of gills (that can be closed in favour of a normal set of lungs for land travel) improved senses (especially smell but somewhat improved hearing and sight as well) and naturally several rows of incredibly sharp teeth that can be quickly replaced. Mako is also stronger and quite a bot faster than one would expect for a small, female child but not enough to put her on an even footing with adults or anything.

The drawbacks are somewhat obvious for an aquatic creature. Mako doesn't do so well with heat and dryness, becoming steadily weaker and dying of dehydration quite a bit faster than a normal human. Mako also has certain dietary requirements, needing to mostly eat meat of some description, preferably fish. The mako is a relatively intelligent species of fish so Mako's intelligence doesn't seem to have been affected too drastically by her mutation, she does display several similar behaviour traits though, most notably a fascination with chasing or hunting things, a tendency to bite when threatened or just excited and a profound hatred for being locked up or otherwise confined.

Birthdate|Age: November 21st 2017 | 13

Occupation: Pre-End|Current Glimmer in her Father's | runaway
Starting Group: The Family
Starting Equipment: odd, culty robes with a mercifully sun blocking hood, a handmade bag holding some dried fish rations and a pilfered hand gun and two clips of ammunition.
RP Example: I'm A list right? I'm on a list somewhere, I'm sure.

Additional Fun Stuff: Not Required

Personality: Naive, curious and constantly on the move, Mako is insatiably curious about the world she's been locked away from all these years, even if is alarmingly deficient in water and fish. Mako is ambivalent about other people, on the one hand new people are very different from the cultists she was surrounded by which fascinates her but on the other can't stand being told what to do and other people often seem to label under the bizarre impression that they know what is best for her above herself. Morally speaking Mako could be described as... under developed. She bears no particular ill will to anyone except the cult who imprisoned her and is now trying to recapture her but she's never been taught anything about interacting with other people except that the apostates who populate the world will inevitably be drowned by the watery wrath of Durg'nacht, so no real moral compass. On the bright side she's a fast learner.

Mako also has a few tics inherited from her shark DNA, namely a compulsion to chase things or solve challenges and a nasty habit of biting when stressed or even just excited.
Character Quest: Besides seeing interesting new things (and probably biting them) Mako is doing her best to stay ahead of the order of Durg'nacht and their agents pursuing her with the intention of recapturing her.
Moral Alignment: Chaotic neutral
Bio: The first thing Mako can rember is the water. Mako's mother was a first gen partial of mako shark heritage discovered not long after the end by the Order of Durg'nacht. This creature, this glorious fusion of man and shark must surely be an envoy of He who sleeps beneath the waves, reasoned the cultists, an early vanguard of the merciless destruction surely to be wrought upon the human race. The fact that such a creature had found its way to the order was surely a sign that they must use it to wreak havoc on the heathens that stood in their way. Unfortunately Mako's mother didn't seem to share the order's thoughts on the matter and attempts to 'train' her proved extremely hazardous, enlightened worshipper of Durg'nacht and filthy heathen apparently tasting more or less the same to her.

After vainly losing several of the faithful the order's leadership grew impatient and began searching for a new approach, even contemplating releasing the partial, after all perhaps her recalcitrance was a sign that Durg'nacht had other plans for the creature? That was when Satoshi Umewari, formerly a brilliant marine biologist and after The End a devout convert to the Order, had a breakthrough. This first creature might be wild beyond control but an offspring, made more intelligent and... malleable, by the addition of human DNA should more than serve their purposes. Umewari had long been fascinated with the elegant but beautiful creature, volunteered his own DNA for the procedure and performed itself with some of his carefully preserved personal equipment from before The End. The result, was Mako and she emerged into a flooded section of the old aquarium with the eyes of the whole order on her.

At first it seemed to have been a rousing success. Mako was not only trainable, she seemed to really enjoy it, learning quickly and playfully. Even her frequent escape attempts came off as more precocious than anything. Then she began to talk. That was surprising, after all her mother had never even approximated human speech, but Mako had always seemed very interested when people spoke in front of her, quickly it became apparent that she had more or less human intelligence and her Father began educating her on all manner of things, especially the beliefs of the order. Mako was easily bored by that sort of thing, but other things she liked learning about, the outside world and the people in it aroused her curiosity especially. She wanted to see all of it for herself. She wanted to know why she couldn't. Her Father didn't have a more satisfactory answer than "Because the Order wills it"

Mako's escape attempts intensified. They were hard to stop, after all the flooded aquarium she lived in was full of holes and entrances leading out into the water and to patch them up someone would have to actually go down there. With Mako's Mother. So every time Mako got out the whole order would have to search for her and coax her back into her living quarters, normally with fish and normally only after she had gotten bored with snooping around, eavesdropping and looking for shiny things. One day she found something that wasn't shiny, but was very interesting anyway. An Outsider.

He was a middle aged man in a worn out and very wet suit, being kept in the half sunken cage the order used for prisoners. Lurking beneath the water nearby, Mako listened to his captors and discovered the man was to be executed for taking Durg'nacht's name in vain or something like that and that to be careful because if he got out he would likely be very difficult to recapture. This was Ricky Holiday but to Mako he was something more.

Her ticket out.

TriStates, what do you think about making the Sixers into a mercantilistic republic, a la RL Novgorod?

So they're this faction with recognized authority over Route 66, operating out of gas stations that they've renovated into temporary tollbooths. They are the number one go-to faction for information on other parts of the country, and charges a fee on anything moving on Route 66, not to mention possessing up-to-date knowledge of the condition of the Route. All this makes them quite rich, but because of their lack of a strong military (what few guns they have are spread halfway over the country), most of their income goes straight towards paying mercenary bands hired on a temporary need-to-have basis that does the actual fighting for the Sixers.

Among all of the creatures that wander the wasteland, perhaps none are as feared as these beasts, called "Behemoths" by the locals. Like the majority of the monsters that stalk the Deadlands, they were created by Extinction, the genetic engineer who is believed by many officials to have originally created a rudimentary version of the Vector virus. These Behemoths are the result of him creating a perfect killing machine, with little to no empathetic ties to humanity. Despite their savagery, they display terrifying intelligence, working in packs to kill more dangerous targets, although, little in the Deadlands can hope to challenge such creatures. They seem to know when their claws grow dull, and will use their own nails to sharpen them. There have been accounts of entire oilfields and mines being abandoned due to infestation.

While deadly outside, in close quarters, they are even deadlier, as their agility is nearly second to none, and they can use their claws to lacerated their target. Some have the ability to camouflage themselves, thanks to their ancestor being the chameleon. Hunting them is considered incredibly dangerous without the use of powered armor and high power weapons, as, despite being near blind, their sensitive nose and hearing make it near impossible to sneak up on them.

If you have an idea of which party you'd like your character to belong, I think it would solve the travel problem. Need some help on that?

Required Information

Picture Appearance:
WIP

Character Name: Mako Umewari
Nation Name: Atlannia
Sex: female
Ethnicity|Nationality: Japanese | American
Race: Mako is a second generation partial, her DNA sharing many similiarites with (duh) the longfin mako shark. The perks are a handy set of gills (that can be closed in favor of a normal set of lungs for land travel) improved senses (especially smell but somewhat improved hearing and sight as well) and naturally several rows of incredibly sharp teeth that can be quickly replaced.

The mako is a relatively intelligent species of fish so Mako's intelligence doesn't seem to have been affected too drastically by her mutation, she does display several similar behaviour traits though, most notably a fasciantion with chasing or hunting things, a tendency to bite when threatened or just excited and a profound hatred for being locked up or otherwise confined.

Birthdate|Age: November 21st 2017 | 13

Occupation: Pre-End|Current Glimmer in her Father's | runaway / sacrificial virgin
Starting Group: The strangers
Starting Equipment: odd, culty robes with a mercifully sun blocking hood, a handmande bag holding some dried fish rations and a pilfered hand gun and two clips of ammunition.
RP Example: I'm A list right? I'm on a list somewhere, I'm sure.

Additional Fun Stuff: Not Required

Pencilling in all this stuff for "not right now"

Personality: (The life blood of your character.)
Character Quest: ( Think of it like a side quest away from the main story line, and an easy way to keep yourself engaged when the OP doesn't deliver. A brief description on the path you see your character taking through the first chapter and the rest of this story. Something unique and something you'd be engaged in.)
Moral Alignment: ( How your character will most likely make a situation work, and how they will react to a situation by trying. Basic DnD alignment grid. While chosen alignment will not rule black and white over choices, it should influence them strongly.)
Bio: (If personality is the lifeblood of your character, this is its heart. No length requirements. Go as short or long as you want.)
Theme Song: Except the Theme song obviously, because priorities

Long time, no see for a shark character. And with that, I'm going to put priority on accepting PC applications to the Family, or the Unit. We needs some life in those parts, otherwise I'll have to cut one or both groups from the RP.
