Trampling Out the Vintage - a Civil War RP
Image

The day is June 1st, 1861, and America is now in a state of war. Two sections of the Union have pitted themselves against each other, one fighting to preserve the Union, and another to leave it. Since the shelling of Fort Sumter, President Lincoln called for 75,000 volunteers to put down the rebellion, resulting in the secession of the upper south. With leaders on both sides acquiring arms, and mobilizing their populace, some foresee a quick victory, while others only see a long, terrible war of attrition. Which war shall this be, which nation shall we finally see?

United States of America

Once a nation united, the USA is now divided into two, fighting for control, or secession. Formed in the revolution, the northern section of it has developed industrially more than the southern section, and is now a major competitor in international industry. However, political differences have resulted in the secession of its southern section, which it views to be illegal. Following the shelling of Fort Sumter, it called for 75,000 volunteers, prompting the secession of more southern states. Now knowing that a war is on their hands, they wish to recover the seceding southern section.

Confederate States of America

Formed from the seceded southern states, the CSA was a response to the election of Abraham Lincoln, who defied the views of the south. Being a mainly agrarian nation, and comprising of 11 of the 15 slave states, the CSA relies on its exports for economic prosperity. Though the Confederacy is agriculturally strong, it lacks major industry, infrastructure, and manpower when compared to the north, giving them certain disadvantages

June 4th, 1861
Marlow Street Commodity Exchange, Philadelphia, United States of America
Thaddeus Tripp

There was a swagger, unmistakable in the smoky air, in Thaddeus' step as he passed between the counting tables and telegraph receivers of the exchange. Ebony cane in hand, the fabulously financier whistled a Scottish ribald air, barely audible over the hubbub of a thousand men shouting to be heard. Here one could feel the lifeblood of the nation pulsing, not the sort of airy dry speeches of Congress where his brother worked, but the thrumming heart of the financial and commercial giant that was the U.S. of A. Here and there his attorneys and lawyers moved, a veritable flock of the men employed by his largesse, doing as he had bade them do. The innumerable mills and farms he owned out produced a small nation, and their goods had to be disposed of. Thaddeus would be rich beyond measure when this war was over, ah, yes indeed.

Main Chamber, U.S. Senate, Washington D.C., United States of America
Jeremiah Tripp

The Speaker's gavel fell, cutting through the hubbub of the Senate Chamber, silencing boisterous brawling politicians and slowly silence returned. In deep tones the man spoke, peering over his reading spectacles at the assembled members of the Congress.

"The Chair recognizes Senator Tripp of Pennslyvania."

Jeremiah was already standing, and smoothed his shirt ruffles as he smiled at the dour old pickle.

"Thank you, honored Speaker. Gentlemen, this discussion of the legitimacy of the Southern cause is reprehensible. Whether or not the men of the states in rebellion had cause for grievance is neither here nor there; we are a polite society, a genteel society. On the foundation of our American ideals we could have addresses any problem, but did the southerners choose to engage in civilized debate, in national discussion? No! They bore arms against their fellow men, killed brave soldiers, and commit heinous sedition. They must be brought to heel; this cannot stand, not if we as a society wish to be enlightened instead of barbarians. I move that we push the honorable gentleman from New York's bill to a vote, to raise additional funding and military units for our brave soldiers!"

Around the chamber cheers and boos thronged and redoubled, but at the end of the day the measure passed. Jeremiah was content.

Jeremiah pushes for military reforms, increasing Corps equipment by 1%.
Jeremiah invests, increasing his modifier by 105%.
