Name:
The Holy Roman Empire (WE STILL EXIST!), Heiliges Römisches Reich

Austria (For the realists), Österreich
United Kingdom of Austria and Bavaria (for the liberals, this is a daydream), Österreich-Bayerischen Gesamtes Köninkreich

Claims:
Controlled: Austria, Bavaria
Claimed: Austria, Bavaria, Switzerland, Germany, Northern Italy, Hungary, the Balkans
Power: Secondary power clinging to great power status. They’re pathetic in that.
Government Structure: Gott Schütze dem Kaiser. The government is centred around the absolute and divine power of the emperor, Francis II, by the Grace of God. His full title is long and contains many titles, but it can be boiled down to the following: His Imperial Majesty, Francis II, Emperor of Rome, Heir to Augustus, King of Bavaria, Archduke of Austria, Pontifex Maximus, Sol Invictus. The Empire is seen by many of the administration as the true heir of the Roman Empire, and they dismiss Byzantine claims to the title. The power derives from both God and the Iuris Civilis, the ancient Roman laws. Whatever comes in handy. It’s hard to disagree with the Pope if your power is derived from the bastard, so the emperor keeps his Roman lineage close to heart, too.
The country is divided into various fiefdoms and noble holdings, all distributed through the power of a strong central legal system. Those lands are yours by the grace of the emperor, so he can take them away at any time if he feels like it. This power has been growing over the years since Francis became emperor, and his strength keeps that rule in place. The nobles, in turn, convene in a parliament of sorts, who may advise the emperor like some Roman senate. The emperor is free to follow these advices as he sees fit.
As imperator, the emperor is also the head of the legal system, and the highest court available in the nation. Whatever case gets through the local courts and the Grand Courts gets to the Imperial Court, which decides on the matter. Is this separation of powers? Not at all. So, if you have a case against the emperor, you better make sure you don’t get to the highest court. Liberals oppose this, of course.
Ideology/Policy: Conservatism, Absolutism
Leaders:
Francis II, emperor.
Klemens von Metternich, Consul (Chancellor Imperial)
Capital City:
Rome (de iure)
Vienna (de facto)
Population: 10.000.000
Primary Ethnic Group: German
Minority Ethnic Groups: Italian, Hungarian
Description of Ethnicity: German. I mean, not much to discuss. They’re German.
Language: Latin (geeez), German
Religion: Catholicism
Foreign Relations:
Relations to all neighbours: The Empire wants to reclaim lost lands that rightfully belong to them. As a result, they pretty much despise all and any of their neighbours.
Relations with the Pope: Good. Austria is still a bastion of Catholicism, one of the few nations where the church hasn’t lost all her privileges yet.
Iberia, France, Two Sicilies: Reasonable. More friendly to Iberia, and France is still viewed as a rival, but less hostile than the Balkan and Central European neighbours.
German States: Austria is willing to cooperate.
Military Information:
The military is a bit of a strange duck. It is a mixture of conservative and progressive elements, a balance between Metternich and the Emperor. Ever since the brutal defeats of the Austrian empire at the hands of the French, the need for reformation was obvious. Thus came a bit of a rivalry between the Emperor and his Consul, regarding the formation of the army. Metternich, a man who had great respect and an undying hatred for Napoleon, wanted to modernise the entire army corps. News tactics, new strategies, new formations. Weapons needed to be more modern, new guns introduced, and most importantly, the officer core needed reforming.
The emperor agreed to some of these points. Although he was conservative through and through, the fact remained that Napoleon wiped the floor with them. So, he gave the concession. The Military School of Vienne was filled with formerly French officers, with men who knew Napoleonic tactics. The entire army got a French look, a French feel, and only the names were translated into Latin and German, for nationalistic purposes. There was one aspect, though, that remained unchanged.
No matter how hard Metternich tried, no matter how much he demanded, he didn’t get to reform the officer establishment. Commissions could still be bought, the officer core was made up of the aristocracy, and for the common man, there was no way to climb up the ranks. The gap was closed a bit, making sure competent soldiers could rise a bit higher, but no further action was taken. The army was still led by the emperor, the same marshals and the same generals. This is probably the biggest failing of the army. Her weapons are modern, her tactics up to date, and her officers are rotten to the very core.
Army Size: Peace time value, 100.000 strong standing. This could be increased during wartimes. Most soldiers are garrisoned in various forts and cities, with the biggest garrison (and the High Command) in Klagenfurt.
Navy Size: You and what navy?
Economic Policy: Free trade, up to a point. It depends on hwo the local noble is. There are many rights for the private enterprise, following Roman law, but the state is more powerful still. The state tries to keep her nose out of the civil legal world, however.
Economic Situation: Meh… Could be worse. The economy isn’t run by large colonial empires or anything, but the people manage. The nobility has assets all over Europe. Banking and finances make sure the upper echelons are supplied, and the lower classes have more than subsistence in agriculture. The land trade routes between the East and the West, and North and South, pass through Vienna, so trade is another important source of income. Although the Austrians long to take Triest back from the damn Venetians.
Infrastructure: Pretty good! The mountains have a hard time, but Bavaria and Austria are pretty well connected. Especially the major cities like Vienna and Munich.
Imports & Exports:
Imports: Luxury items, raw colonial imports
Exports: Iron, weapons, agricultural products, finances
Currency: Reichsmark
History: WIP, basically Napoleon defeated Austria, dissolved the Holy Roman Empire, which was reforged when Napoleon took his eye of the Empire for a second. The whole title is a big middle finger to France, although nobody but the Austrians joined it again…

Economic Policy: The Liberty Party and Johansenians strongly support Laissez-faire Economic policies. Since the party has taken power, they have pursued a hands-off approach to the economy, allowing infrastructure, industry, and banking to develop on its own.
Economic Situation: The economy is slowly recovering from the Recession of 1833-1834, a year long period where the economy's growth stinted. This followed several other recent recessions. Since 1825, there have been three recessions, with a few more preceding the ten year period. However, growth has stabilized and the economy is expanding once again. The overall situation in the Columbian Federation is fair.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure is decent. Canal and road projects undertaken by von Johansen's predecessor, John Quincy Adams, have improved the national infrastructure, which currently tends to be done state by state. Railroads are slowly springing up around major population centers.
Imports & Exports:
-Imports: Tea, spices, fur, European nonsense
-Exports: Foodstuffs (wheat), tobacco, timber
Currency: Columbian Dollar ($)
History:
-1620 - English colonists begin establishing settlements on the coast of Massachusetts.
-1642-51 - The English Civil War rages across the Atlantic. Slowly the North American colonies begin to develop large amounts of autonomy.
-1660 - Restoration of Charles II occurs. Subsequent reforms reign in the now self-governing colonies via reforms such as the Navigation Acts. Reorganization of colonies begins.
-1676 - New England comes under heavy siege during Metacom's War, which is eventually won by the English colonists. Native power in New England is largely diminished to nothing.
-1686 - Dominion of New England decreed by James II. Autonomy is slashed and discontent among the Protestant population is rampant.
-1689 - Governor of New England is deposed and executed by an angry mob. The Dominion ceases to exist.
-1689–1697 - King William's War rages. Maine seized from France
-1702–1713 - Queen Anne's War
-1720 - The Province of Maine becomes the Crown Colony of Lothian after it's coastline is settled by Scots immigrants.
-1744–1748 - King George's War. New England colonies prove their militias are capable of fighting.
-1749-53 - Father Le Loutre's War is fought in Northern Lothian between the French and Natives living there and the Scottish/English in New England.
-1756-1763 - The Six Years' War rages across the Americas between the British and the Iberians. In order to finance the expensive war, taxes are raised on the colonies during the war.
-1765 - The Stamp Act is passed and is repealed a year later, however the outrage it caused does not disperse.
-1776 - Following nonsense the Declaration of Independence is signed at the First Continental Congress in Philadelphia.
-1781 - The Columbian War of Independence is won following French intervention. The Columbian Federation is declared, Constitution signed. Slavery is abolished in the constitution.
-1789 - George Washington does not seek election as president. Is succeeded by John Adams. Clashes between Thomas Jefferson's Anti-Federalists and the ruling Federalists rage.
-1791 - First Bank of Columbia is established by congress. Vermont admitted as a state.
-1793 - Adams is replaced by Jefferson. Battle between the Federalists and Anti-Federalists simmers
-1799 - Jefferson's Pro-France policy is implemented. Silent support of Revolutionary France in the Napoleonic Wars
-1803 - Ohio becomes a state
-1812 - War of 1812???
-1824 - The Presidential Election of this year is quite contested. Washington native Andreas von Johansen won both the electoral college and popular vote, but the House of Representatives ruled the election in favor of John Quincy Adams - who becomes president.
-1825 - The Democratic-Republic Party is dissolved, splitting up into the Johansenian Liberty Party and the National Republican Party - which supported Adams.
-1828 - Adams is defeated by von Johansen, whose party sees gains in the House of Representatives. The Whig Party and National Republicans aligned with one another in the congress, but remained separate parties.
-1833 - The National Republicans merge into the Whig Party, solidifying the Whigs' ability to oppose von Johansen's agenda, however they have been failing.

Symbols: Imperial Standard
Unofficial
Naval Ensign
Coat of Arms
Theme: Peace
Theme: War
Claims: 43
Power: Total Bear Power, also known as Great Power
Government Structure: Essentially, absolute autocratic 17th century level monarchy (sort of). Ain't nobody got time for voting. The Emperor is the absolute ruler and has absolute control over the nation's affairs - he is the supreme commander of the Army, he decided what is the budget spent on, etc. To help him in this job, the Emperor appoints advisors and ministers (usually from his own family or favorite aristocrats) to help him rule, while his decisions on the provincial level are executed by the Gubernators (Governors), who each control a guberniya - a territorial division.
Ideology/Policy: Keeping the calm and not reforming anything, beating up the Turks, Hungarians and Greeks in the name of Panslavism, oppressing minorities for the sake of oppressing minorities, and if anyone objects - chopping their head off and sending the body to Siberia. We're pretty straightforward in our rule.
Leaders: His Imperial Majesty, Emperor of All Russias, Nicholas I Pavlovich Romanov. Let's check Wikipedia...He is best known as a political conservative whose reign was marked by geographical expansion, repression of dissent, economic stagnation, poor administrative policies, a corrupt bureaucracy, and frequent wars that culminated in Russia's disastrous defeat in the Crimean War of 1853-56.

Capital City: St. Petersburg - best city on the planet
Population: 59,000,000
Primary Ethnic Group: Ussuri Brown Bear, also known in mudmen circles as Russian
Minority Ethnic Groups: more than we want
Description of Ethnicity: The Russians are hardy people. Living in their small villages and being oppressed by themselves for hundreds of years, they have grown a thick skin for any kind of cultural torture that might get thrown at them. An absolute majority of the Russian populace are illiterate, live in villages and work from early morning to night under their feudal overlord. The government leaves them alone in hopes that they don't irritate the powerful nobility, though happily recruit millions for the war cause and shove them down their enemy's throats.
Language: Triangle and Quadrant Speak, also known as Russian
Religion: Eastern Orthodox
Foreign Relations: Beating up the Turks, having secret lover-and-homicidal-maniac relations with the Hungarians, not giving a damn about the Scandinavians, staring suspiciously at the Germans and ignoring the Chinese.
Military Information: The Imperial Russian Army retains most of it's 18th century ancien regime organization. There is little organizational command above the regimental level, senior officers are largely recruited from aristocratic circles and most lower-level officers are poorly trained and incapable of pulling off complex maneuvers. Still, the army is vast, conscription is 25 years long (madness!) and employs a fine artillery arm to pack a punch. The Navy is one of the largest on Earth, though somewhat underfunded and has to import ships and spare parts from overseas.
Army Size: 900,000 regulars, 250,000 irregulars (mostly Cossacks). This is just the standing army, by the way. At wartime, we can easily mobilize at least as many men for service.
Navy Size: Wiki gives rescue
The Black Sea Fleet possessed five line-of-battle ships and 19 frigates (1787), the Baltic Fleet had 23 ships of the line and 130 frigates (1788).
Also, there's a steamboat. Izhora. Izhora arch-nemesis of the UK. Very cute. Drawing Rule 34 with a British ironclad as we speak.
Economic Policy: Neo-serfdom based agricultural economy.
Economic Situation: One poor harvest away from total collapse. Industry is non-existant, the government foesn't really care about innovation or advancement in favor of the old ways, most of the meager GDP is produced in large feudal serf-based and very inefficient farms. As grain prices drop from fertilizers being more widespread, this might become a problem. There are some coal and iron mines, but we don't use it - we don't need it that much, and just ship it to Prussia or the UK. Oh, and timber. Timber cutting is an important industry.
Infrastructure: What is this infrastructure you speak of. There are a few old roads that become unusable if it rains (so always), but nothing and no plans of anything further.
Imports & Exports: Imports: grain and other agriculture products, some iron and coal; exports: weapons, industrial and exotic goods.
Currency: The Russian ruble, divided into 100 kapeiki.
History: Same-ish as IRL.
