Scorpius glanced it out of the corner of his eyes and felt his blood freeze. Scorpius had never seen any indication of Ophius being angry-not even with him after the Sol fiasco. For some reason, this news had upset her enormously.
"I...see." She spoke softly, "I was hoping it wouldn't be one of...those reasons. Very well. In that case, forcing a surrender is out of the question, so we're going to have to destroy them and rebuild them again. And that means we'll need to bring their fleet to battle which in turn means we need to scout their home system out to figure out their total strength and composition. I'm not a trained admiral, but I'm not wrong here, am I?"
Only because I brought my suspicions up with you when I looked through the comm chatter that we got dumped. Scorpius thought.
"But if you just throw a scout ship at them, we all know what would happen. Well, we have nine Ophians and our Fifth Fleet rendezvous is going to provide us with three hundred cryo chambers. That means we can jump them through and go completely cold before the jump is over, have no photon slippage at the endpoint, run the spectrum of passive scans and go without them knowing we were ever there there."
Ophius stared solemnly at the two people on her screen.
"And then we can talk about the rest of it."
Shellist hears these solutions and answers,
"Sounds better than any plans we have. I'm very grateful you have all come here to help us in this time of need. We couldn't do this by ourselves."

Spindle wrote:Eris felt her fists clench as Khronos prepared to leave, but she knew that he had his own crushing responsibilities, and she'd had it drummed into her head that her personal opinions would always need to take a back seat to her responsibilities. And so she merely nodded contritely as Khronos made to leave and savoured the last few moments she would have with him.
"I know." She sighed to the empty room, "I'll have breakfast and compile the reports before I speak to Armillius. It would be better if I had something other than the news to tell him."
Nodding at her own plan, she headed off to find out what kind of food they served on the Armada, hearing her stomach gargle as if in response to the thought. Eris smiled slightly at that and pushed the impending mound of paperwork out of her mind. She could deal with that later, after she had stuffed herself. Bacon and eggs, or the Taari version, perhaps.
Ophius bowed her head at the compliments, as the first light-flares of Fifth fleet's arrival began to reach the ship's sensors. Ophius knew that the rendezvous would take place without her interference-after all, her captains were perfectly capable in their own right, and they didn't need her micromanaging their every action. She privately had her suspicions that one of the reasons Armillius kept the b-space transmitters so rare among the fleet was to keep micromanagement from Spindle at the lowest possible point.
"You're welcome. It's always good to help other Humans." Ophius paused with a twinkle in her eye, "And it'll be good to guage everyone at war. It'll take around half an hour for the rendezvous, plus another forty-five minutes to install the cryo units and another half-hour for everything to go wrong. We'll begin the operation in two hours time, then, plus an estimated twenty-two minutes to the Floran home system, thirty-six minutes scanning and twenty-two minutes back means the operation will be complete in...let's say three and a half hours time, including friction? That sounds about right. We'll see how it all goes and send that data out to everyone when the ships get back, leave half an hour for data analysis and have a holo conference four hours from now. Does that sound about right to everyone?"
Beryl cursed again as the cutter hit the power line for the combat pod, sending up a shower of firefly sparks. Whose bright idea had it been to integrate cryo pods into the Ophians, anyway? Almost all of the supply cables would need to be re-routed and keeping the amniotic from freezing was, although theoretically simply, rapidly proving to be an absolute nightmare.
"Pass me the tape, will you?" She called into her comm, feeling Jason pressing it into her hand several moments later. She unrolled a segment, tore it away and stuck the power line to the wall of the cavity, keeping it safely out of the way as she restarted the cutter. Trying to reach the regular coolant pipes for the combat pod was proving to be the hardest part, but if she could just-
The pipe burst open, a viscous, blue liquid spurting straight into Beryl's faceplate and temporarily blinding her, the force tipping her over. She felt the impact on her back and cursed yet again. Why was this sodding coolant being so damned problematic? She pushed herself to her feet, wiping the coolant from her faceplate with the back of her glove before leaning back over the hole she'd cut in the main supply pipe, the coolant spurting less violently now, and got back to work.

She'd have thought that interstellar communications would have meant that paperwork could be avoided, yet here she was, half-way through a stack of paper the as thick as her arm, with two hours to go. She gently massaged her hand before she picked up her pen again and shakily began to fill it out again. She couldn't wait for the embassy to finish being built here. Then, at least she'd have a secretary to do this work for her. Still, as long as she was the only Human here, it was her responsibility to do so, however much her hand may ache from it.
She absently tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear as she wrote out form after form, her mind dulling with each consecutive script she had to copy out onto the damned paper. One hundred and one...one hundred and two...one hundred and three...it seemed like an endless mountain, but Eris persevered with it, however much like Sisyphus she felt as she did.

Her head was on something solid and smooth...as she dragged her hand along it, she realised it must be her desk. She sat bolt upright. But that meant...no, no, no! She still had so many forms to fill out, in triplicate! There was so much still to do and it was almost evening!
Khronos' voice came from the door and Eris bolted over and opened it, running a hand through her hair in a vain attempt to untangle it slightly, before she hugged Khronos tightly. She was tired, but the feel of his torso under her hands gave her a new burst of energy as she brought him into the room.
"Of course." She smiled, "Where to begin?"

Gia, transfer the message to the First Contact team and sent me a copy to my wristguard. The message appears in the wristguard and Solia sits back in her chair reviews the message. After reading the message, Solia's activates the comm link on her wristguard and connects to the first contact team . Master Osan, what is you team's thoughts about the Tagali Federation?
Solia, as you have probably read as well. Based on this information, This Federation looks promising for friendly relations but, we need more information before we consider contacting the Council for diplomatic talks.
I suggest either a meeting with either their current representative or with their government, while following First Contact Relations Protocol of course.
Understood Master Osan, I will contact your team when a meeting is going to take place. Solia closes the link. Gia, sent his message, " me and my crew have review the information and have concluded that we would like to have a meeting with your government to discuss future relations between our people. Or if a meeting is not possible not this time, than a meeting with you either on my or one of your ships?"

He leaned in and kissed her forehead and she shuddered at the smoothness of his lips as they brushed her skin. She flushed, both from the contact and the sweet nothing, and parted her lips to reply.
"At least let us compensate you for what we're going to need for the after-party." She whispered back, equally softly, her eyes gazing up at his face, illuminated from below by the faint blue-pink light. He was so perfect...
As she gazed up at him, her mind clicked into gear and she burst out of the embrace with a cry of surprise, rushing over to her desk and grabbing her pen. She rapidly began to fill out the remaining forms, sifting through the rest of the pile at breakneck speed, her mouth tightening slightly every time she jolted the paper.
"Sorry!" She called out, "I've got fifty forms left to finish and scan for an hour from now!"

As Khronos spoke, his words took a second to permeate through her brain, so focused she was before she glanced up at Khronos, her brow furrowing before her face opened out into something between disbelief and joy.
"I hadn't thought about it like that..." She trailed off into nothing before her brow furrowed again, "Wait, what order would the titles go into? Would it be: 'Lady Eris, Imperatrix of the Taari Armada and Crown Princess of Spindle', or: 'Lady Eris, Crown Princess of Spindle and Imperatrix of the Taari Armada'?"
She slid another sheet onto the scanner before grabbing the last one, filling it out, and scanning it in before collapsing into Khronos' arms.
"I feel so tired." She murmured into his ear, "But I've only been doing deskwork today..."

The questions appeared and disappeared as she felt another gasp slip from her mouth, followed by a moan, and then another, longer moan. She hadn't realized just how much stress and tension had been building up in her body, but now it was dissolving away like fog in the sun under Khronos' fingertips.
"Mhm." Eris managed to gasp, "I-ah-have to-mmmnmm-agree, dear."

She gazed up into his face, relaxed and contented like a very large cat. At his question, she stiffened slightly before relaxing back into his body, but she kept her hands clutching at the envirosuit.
"They'll be fine with it, but..." She tailed off for several seconds before continuing, "Armillius isn't sure if it's my choice to do it. He accepts it politically and he's fine with it otherwise, but if he thinks that you've forced me into it..." She tailed off again and held onto Khronos even tighter. She didn't say anything else, instead focusing on holding back the tears in her eyes at the thought of Khronos and Armillius at war.

As if reading her thoughts, Khronos began to whisper to her, his words flowing through her mind like a balm and she slowly caught ahold of herself.
"I must look pathetic." She whispered, "I'm sorry. I just- I- I don't want everyone to die because I can't convince Armillius that this is genuine."
