Meanwhile, back on Cadia...

Postby Delta Eridanus » Mon Nov 23, 2015 2:12 pm

"I could list all the stupid things people have done in the name of love, and say I would never do anything of them. But then I'd be a hypocrite, wouldn't I?" -Lord Darius Caridin to Lady Ashara Dayne.

New Hyperion, Cadia

Lord Caridin sat in the Council room, listening to Lord Dorian Martell's droning.

Lady Allyria Dayne sat 4 seats away, exactly opposite Lord Martell.

Darius was trying his best to stay neutral, as he was the only one who had successfully kept the peace for as long as he did.

But there was a part of him nagging Darius to come to Lady Dayne's rescue, and humiliate the Martells.

But that would force the Martells to retaliate, and he didn't want that.

So, Darius stayed in his seat for the time being. Until an Dayne servant brought him a metal cylinder, and a report from the Starguard, which Darius quickly read.

"Hm."

The Lord of Cadia stood, calling attention to himself.

"My friends, I stand before you holding a report from the Starguard accusing House Martell of having a hand in the disappearance of Lady Ashara Dayne."

Lord Martell looked at Darius like he was insane. "As I have said before, the Martells were never involved in that. What advantage would we get from that?"

Allyria stood up suddenly. "You know full well-"

Dorian turned to Allyria. "QUIET! I do not take snide comments from a house full of whores."

Without thinking, Darius was up in a flash, and was pinning Dorian against the wall. "No one speaks of another house like that. Not in the Council, and not ever."

Dorian spit in his face. "You see?! Even the Caridins are in the sway of the Daynes!"

A fury rose in Darius, and he punched Lord Martell. The Lord of Cadia was about to punch the Lord of Daggerfall again before Decius Lupercal pulled him off.

Still spitting mad, Darius shouted at Dorian.

"I DON'T EVER WANT TO SEE YOU, AND YOUR HOUSE IN NEW HYPERION EVER AGAIN! YOU ARE EXPELLED FROM THE CADIAN COUNCIL!"

Allyria, and the rest of the Council, stood in shock as Decius wrestled Darius back to his seat, and Lord Martell left in a hurry, shouting obscenities.

When the Lord of Cadia came to his senses, he only said one thing.

"By Talos, what have I done?"

Delta Eridani System

The Argent Spire had apparently come out of the jump in polar orbit of Delta Eridani's gas giant, Arborea.

What Dmitri could see at first was limited, as his eyes adapted to the light-blue light of the system's star, Diomedes to the Cadians.

Eventually, the UTT could see Argos, the icy world that some of the ancient city-states of Cadia had fled to when the Great Arcadian War had begun.

Finally, they saw Cadia. Even from Arborea, it was obvious why the Cadians called it the jewel of the Imperium. Between the clouds, the oceans of Cadia were the color of an brilliant sapphire, and the peaks of the Magna Hyperia Range poked through the clouds to reveal their stony peaks.

Before the Argent Spire could get any closer, one of the crewmen shouted.

"SHIP INCOMING!"

When Argent Spire turned to view the ship, some of the crewmen gasped. After all, this was the first true Cadian ship that many had seen in their lifetime.

The ICS Arngrim had the Golden Eagle, the symbol of the Imperium, emblazoned on it's hull, along with a purple stripe declaring which house it belonged to. In this case, it was House Dayne.

Lyris, attempting to keep quiet, had a smirk on her face. After all, she knew who was in command of this ship, as did every Cadian.

The crewman barely had enough time to yell to Dmitri that the ship was hailing them before the viewscreen came to life.

The Cadian bridge had many elements of the ship design the UTT had seen, but had also had some element of a old Norse longhouse like the ones back on Earth.

The commander of the ship shouted at one of her crewmen in Cadian. The crew of the Arngrim seemed well-trained, and were as unnaturally calm as Lyris was.

The commander, a young woman with dark golden-brown hair and piercing violet eyes, turned back to look at the screen. This was Rowan Dayne, one of the best captains of the Imperium, and also the first (illegitimate) daughter of Lord Darius Caridin and Lady Ashara Dayne.

She spoke in Terran, the trading language of the Imperium. "Who are you, and why are you in Imperium space?"

George started to break out into laughter the moment the Lord started to rant. Once he was taken away, George said to Ionia, That was HILARIOUS! We should do that again!

----

Dmitri was in shock. The biggest ship he had seen was the Golden Scythe, and he thought the Scythe was special. The Arngrim was maybe half the size of the Golden Scythe, which wouldn't be special usually, except for the fact that the Argent Spire was merely a transport vehicle, and had basic plasma cannons. This ship seemed to loom over them, and Dmitri had no time to react when all of a sudden, the alien on the screen began to speak. It talked in a language unknown to the UTT, and even the Universal Translator wasn't able to translate the language correctly.

Dmitri looked a Lyris and asked, "Do you know what they are saying? Never mind, of course you do. Please tell me what they are saying."

Lyris, who was under the console, trying to fix the translator, translated.

"They just asked who the hell you were and what you were doing in Imperium space."

----

Ionia laughed along with George.

George hooted with laughter before weezing out, Is there anyone else I can piss off?

Lyris stood up, and quickly introduced herself to Rowan Dayne in Cadian.

"I am Lyris Fellhand, of House Fellhorn."

Rowan nodded, and introduced herself, which Lyris translated.

"She is Rowan Dayne, of House Dayne of Ebonheart. She asked if it was the message concerning Ashara Dayne?"

With that, Lyris went back to fixing the translator.

(Just wanted to point out, your computer keeps switching the Y and the N in Dayne.)

"Almost... Got it!"

Lyris stood up and handed a small microphone to Dmitri. "I combined your Old Norse and Scandinavian translation software into one. should work now,"

After a bit of thought, Rowan replied with a heavy Scandinavian accent. "Follow me. I will take you to New Hyperion."

The ICS Arngrim escorted the Argent Spire to the orbit of Cadia, where many Martell ships, identified by an orange stripe instead of the purple stripe of Dayne, were leaving.

The UTT ship only had to move once to avoid the over-7-kilometers-long ICS Spear of The Sun, flagship of House Martell, which was receiving a shuttle carrying Lord Dorian Martell and his family.

Rowan Dayne, who had the radio on her ship tuned to Cadia's military radio, gave Lyris the codes to access the same radio.

"You and your friends might want to hear this."

When Lyris tuned to the station, the translator translated easily.

"...As of one hour ago, House Martell has been exiled from New Hyperion, and the Council. Former Jarl Dorian Martell, Now just Thane Martell, has ordered all Martell ships to the Achernar system. A video of the events will now be broadcasted."

Footage of the shouting match in the Council room, again easily translated, played on the screen.

"Serilum is used for conducting heat generators in Harndar. Years ago when we had enough troubles with saving out fossil fuel, miners found a element to conduct heat and transform it into electricity. Serilum is also used for our spacship hulls for protection. Ionite is a highly reactive reasource that can be used for more power and send a ship into hyperspace, although it makes more energy than Serilum, it has that potential explosion factor and runs out, a year for Ionite, forever for Serilum. Ships use a lower reactive kind of Ionite."

Dmitri watched as the match took place, not knowing the connotation. The two men were yelling about whose fault it was for the missing Lady, Dmitri knew that, but 'New Hyperion' and the new house names confused him.

"Ok, so we think that the 'Martells' have something to do with the disappearance of this Lady Dayne, and the accusation pushed the 'Martells' out of the council?" Dmitri said, his face ripe with confusion.

Ceto would have snarled if she had been in control of her face. What kind of plant life was this? How in Hell could it survive in space? Thoughts whirled desperately through her brain but at the same time, her combat programmes took over, splitting her thoughts into the coldly analytical and the wildly gibbering.

ETI: 7.92739 Seconds.

[Report-damagesituation]:

Hull sections 5-8 breached [criticalatmosleakage].

Hull sections 11-15 breached [noncriticalatmossealed].

Hull sections 18-22 breached [noncriticalatmossealed].

Damage control offline [Order11923-cryounits-active]

Countermissile tubes 11-18 offline [ammofeederror]

Distance of tethers: 1 Light-second from respective planetary surfaces.

Thickness of tethers: 3.2m radius.

Probability of escape with engine burn: <5% [assumption-ironbarkvines-report119383].

Ceto felt a cold stillness clutch at her heart. She was immobilised, with a salvo of boarding pods headed her way. Almost unconsciously, she directed her point defences to tear through the oncoming wave. Although the wave of missiles screaming to engage was impressive, it was nowhere near enough-and far less than it should have been. She quickly ran a systems check to be sure that nothing had been too badly damaged and felt rage burning inside her as the reports came crashing back in.

ETI: 7.50274 Seconds.

Offensive/defensive systems check:

Starward podlayer blocked [plantmatter-designateironwoodvinev2091].

Missile tubes 9-12 blocked [plantmatter-designateironwoodvine2091].

Countermissile tubes 5-11 blocked [plantmatter-designateironwoodvine2091].

Maneuver engine 3 blocked [plantmatter-designateironwoodvine2091].

Ceto felt another stab of cold ice at her heart. How in Hell were they doing this?

ETI: 6.98372 Seconds.

[Analysis-pointdefence14]:

Relative velocity (Incoming): 12% c.

Relative velocity (outgoing): 18% c.

Probability of ECM reducing enemy accuracy: <5% [assumption-tactiletargetting-ironwoodevine2091].

Liklihood of missiles detonating within 25,000 Km of launch: >25% [assumption-predictedandextrapolated-ref:silverscythe]

Effectiveness: High [assumption-demonstrated ability-analysis192839variable].

Ceto wanted to scream into her amniotic. That couldn't be her only option available! She had to have more choices!

Kzinti Lesson: A reaction drive's efficiency as a weapon is in direct proportion to its efficiency as a drive.

Ceto would have grinned had she been in control of her face. A part of her mind was directing the countermissiles and point defence LASERs, orchestrating an apocalyptic war with the oncoming pods, another part was preparing the pods for ejection and a third was keeping energy regulated, but most of her mind was running the calculations. Yes, this might just work.

[Command-MEngine4-9-fire-overridebloackagewarning-vector1837392]

A jet of plasma spurted from the maneuver engines, punching through the outer edge of the tether pushing the ship into a spin, straining against the tethers. Ceto noted objects falling off of the outer hull and paled slightly. Boarding parties? That was bad news. The entire crew were in their pods and the Marine complement had been stripped out for the mission. If one of them got inside, then the entire crew was dead. But the ship was aimed now, and Ceto gleefully inputted the next set of commands into the ship.

[Command MEnginges-autostabilise]

[Command-Engine-fullpower]

A roaring funnel of plasma burst from the rear of the Ophian, tearing into the first tether, and any pods unlucky enough to get in the way, with savage ferocity. Even as parts began to brake off, Ceto saw several damage reports beginning to flash up in her mind. This was only just beginning.

Eris stood behind the screen, her white dress flowing down her body to the floor. She stood, veil over head, staring serenely into Euphemia's eyes.

"I don't know what to do." She said softly, "I just don't know what to do anymore. I love him so much it hurts, Euphy. But how do I show him that? What can I do?"

"He knows." Euphemia replied lightly, "Believe me, he knows. Just be you. Go on. You'll be needed any minute now."

"Thanks." She smiled before turning and facing the door. "Are you going to talk to Lyson after this?"

"Yes." Euphemia smiled, "I think I can get him to see sense. I just need to get him off-balance somehow. But now isn't the time for that. Just be happy for once, Eris. You never know, you might like it."

"Perhaps." Eris said, lingering in the doorway, "But for now, let's get this over and done with. I hate formality like this."

"I can see Opius didn't have much of an effect on you." Euphemia said, before firmly and insistently pushing Eris in the small of the back, "Go on. Once you're out there, it'll just flow. So move, lady!"

Eris stepped out into the corridor, into the beginning of the aisle. Opposite her was Khronos, almost unrecognisable out of his armour. Almost unrecognisable, but Eris knew it was him. She just knew. A rush hit her, like adrenaline but instead of sharpening all of her senses, she instead saw his face to the exclusion of all else. It was beautiful. She knew she didn't tell him it often enough but he was beautiful. With a steady rhythm, she made her way to the centre and took Khronos' arm. It was time to begin.

Lyris and Rowan looked at each other.

"It's not as simple as that." Rowan began. "The Martells and the Daynes have been rivals since the beginning of the Imperium, going as far as to slander each other."

"That alone would be enough to justify a shouting match." Lyris interjected.

"But the Caridins, the ruling house of the Imperium, have a personal stake in the feud." Rowan looked around. "The current Lord, Darius Caridin V, fell for Lady Ashara Dayne and married her, very nearly incurring a Martell rebellion. They bore two daughters, and one of them was me."

Lyris added. "And when it comes to house relations, Lord Caridin has a hard time hiding his feelings."

Rowan continued. "With Lady Ashara gone, and an act this big and direct, there's only one conclusion that makes sense. Lord Caridin is falling for another Dayne: Lady Allyria."

Dmitri smirked and said, "Drama ensues..." He then got a hold of himself a little and said, "So will there be some kind of pushback from the Martells and their allies?"

"Very likely." Rowan admitted.

Lyris pulled up her map of Eridanus. "When they do, the Martells will probably try to seize Theta Eridani. The system contains one of the Forge-Worlds of House Fellhorn, and is the stronghold of the Daynes in that part of Eridanus."

Sol System - Orbit Around Mars - Battle Group Sol - I.O.S. Relentless Zeal, Crown Prince Joseph Marx's Flagship - Audience Chamber - 2030 Earth Hours

Joseph chuckled at Ophius's remark. "So many people focus on the main course, ignoring the reason for appetizers." The lift doors opened and Joseph led them down the hall into a large blank metal room with a lavishly decorated wooden table and metal chairs. In front of the table was a tall console. "Perhaps tonight's venue will be somewhere more familiar", Joseph spoke as he walked to the console. After a few clicks were heard, the dull metal room transformed instantly. The walls became a seemingly endless garden. The floors became grass, and the chirping of birds can be heard. In the distance of the garden was a large white palace white brightened under the golden sun. "Normally this room would be used for communication, but you can modify it to project certain environments. These are the Imperial Botanical Gardens on Ostia, in the distance is the Imperial Palace."

Warhrihet System (Formally the Pravda System) - Warhrihet (Formally Pravda) - The former city of Vneipr - Industrial Complex 415

"While I have never heard of this incident, it does not surprise me that the Ostians wouldn't." Ulyanov stopped momentarily, and looked around a corner. "Normally, I would lead you to the command center, but I think you will understand." He led Kale to a large room with metal crates filling up most of the room. Ulyanov opened one of the crate, which was filled with bullets. "What you see here is our dead." Ulyanov spoke as he picked up one of the bullets. "We cremate our dead and put their ashes into bullets. Every bullet you see was a member of the SRF at one point."

Displeoa System - Heading Towards Lepota - Between Vryi and Lepota - 60-61 Hours After Awakening

"Incoming bioship! It looks different from the others!" Reported the sensors operator aboard the I.O.S. Morbid Angel. Admiral Specht looked ahead to see it, a biological and mechanical mess of a ship heading towards the formation. Just by its look, Specht could tell this was the flagship.

"Status on engines?" Specht yelled.

"Damaged but useable!" Replied the navigator. "We won't be able to turn, but if we just go straight we should be fine."

"Keep in the formation, we'll be able to coordinate more fire with the other ships!"

"Admiral, we just lost our cruiser escorts!"

"Admiral, the unique bioship is firing weapons on us! They're ours."

"Signal the Undying Light to concentrate forward firepower on the led bioship! Tell them we will support their assault!" Two of the battlecruisers began firing at Tyrant Orava's bioship unknowingly. Even though the ships were hit multiple times, the white lettering, I.O.S. Morbid Angel was clearly visible on the hull of the Admiral's ship. Because of the assimilated information, the Tyrant would've known the battlecruiser infront of him, was the flagship of the Displeoa fleet.

"Admiral, they have shields."

"Keep firing! Their shields should crumble under our combined assault."

"We think they may be heading to the sensor relay, but they took out our internal sensors." The acting-commander spoke to the Xenos. Only a skeleton of a skeleton crew remained on the starbase. As far as he knew, they held the sensor relay, communication relay, power core, and commander center. While the rest of the station besides those areas were without power, the acting-command started to notice power fluctuations. "They're in the fire control center. Weapons are beginning to power up, how they were able to do so is unknown."

Khronos smiled as he walked with her, and stopped at the head of the aisle. The priest went through his speech, a traditional blessings from the Gods and good wishes. It was also the call for those who opposed, but none came forward. And then, the priest asked the question. Khronos smiled widely as he stared into Eris' eyes. His love's eyes. It was wonderful. He felt her skin on his hand's skin; the cure that Armilius had given worked. He took it so he could be with his wife the day of their wedding entirely, unrestricted.

"I do.", he said after the priest asked the question. After a moment, the priest nodded and turned to Eris. He asked her a similar question as he finished his blessings for the Gods, and Khronos anticipated the words so much. After she said them, the priest gave permission for the bride to be kissed. And, Khronos did so. He kissed Eris with a deep passion that surged through him like wildfire. He held her close as he did so, keeping her in the kiss...

Tyrant Orava recognized the Ostian flagship. He had the shields set to the maximum power all of the ships that were absorbed could give, as well as reforming some Biogenerators to assist. Other Biogenerators were created to assist in powering the blasters to maximum as well. He ordered all fire concentrated on the flagship, as well as all Biofighters to converge. The Flagship of the Ostians would be swarmed by acid and plasma fire from the Bioship and Biofighters, and the shields were taking damage, but would hold, at least for a little while longer. Tyrant Orava grinned. If he destroyed their flagship, the other ships would be in full retreat- or at least, they would try to regroup.

In any case, this was the time to advance on the enemy - to set them off their feet, as the Ostians might put it. Tyrant Orava was trying to make them unbalanced - to ensure victory. He received news that several more Bioships were nearing completion. That was good; he knew he could destroy this ship alone, but the Ostian fleet was still near, and so he'd need reinforcements. Tyrant Orava chuckles a bit. Now, for the finishing blow. He sends a psionic message to those praising the 'All Father.' The message is simple: Do whatever it takes to take control of the ship they're in, and attack the flagship as well as Ostian fleet. Do this, and peace will be upon them. Tyrant Orava grinned. This awakening would be fun.

Keshiga Orbital Medical Station

"The invitation to the representatives Vryr'yks Coalition is ready, Madame." Riiva said, Consul Lahira Nal-Togara's Taani aide. Riiva handed Lahira her datapad to read over what the message entailed.

TO: Captain Solia Kor of the Vryr'yks Coalition
FROM: Lahira Nal-Togara, Consul of the Tagali Federation

Greetings. I am sending you this message to invite you and your crew to a banquet of the highest representatives in the Tagali Federation and her member species. We can use this opportunity to open diplomatic ties between our people so we may reap the benefits of cooperation. In this message will include the coordinates to reach to the Todval System. Please arrive immediately.

"It's good, have the Ministry of Diplomatic Affairs send it off immediately." Lahira said, handing the datapad back to Riiva.

"With haste, Madame. If I may ask, why do we have to come out here to meet with this new species's leader? Couldn't we have just sent them a message as well?" Lahira sighed.

"You've been my aide for what? Two years now? You should know by now that I prefer to meet whomever I need to speak to in person. I would have done the same for the Captain Solia, but it would have been unreasonable to track him down through the void. Besides, it's best to meet a potential threat in the eye and show them you won't coward in the corner." The two walked into a large room where the Generation Admiral was waiting.

The doctors were working tirelessly to bring these new aliens back into a stable condition. While surgeries and treatments would have been child's play to them if they were Tagali or one of the other Member Species. They struggled with the new anatomy of these creatures. Never the less, they were making headway on improving their condition. Lahira spoke up, unnoticed by the Admiral.

"Hello, I am Lahira Nal-Togara, Consul of the Tagali Federation and her Member Species." She tried to make small talk.

"Impressive, isn't it? This station was built during the Maug-Lai Wars following first contact with them. This station has overseen Millions of injured and ill. I assure you that your people are in good hands."

It has been days and still no word for the Tagali Federation Solia thought to herself. "Well we done scanning this system and maybe their will contact us later".

"An invitation? Solia is surprised by this, "display the message Gia"

Solia gets up from her chair and looks at the message, "This is unexpected, and Solia activates the comm function on her wristguard. "Master Osan, we have receive a message from the Federation". T"hey have invited us to a banquet and their highest representatives will be there".

"A banquet" Master Osan said in a shock tone, "that's..... unexpected and I don't know if we can agree to this".

"Master Osan", Solia said in a reassuring tone. " It's possible this is a friendly custom and this may be our only chance to learn more about them".

Per..haps Solia, Master Osan thinks hard about this. "Fine, I'll ready my team and we will be ready for this banquet when we arrive". Master Osan closes the link.

"Navigators, how far is the Todval System for here".

"Not far, five-six hours at most captain".

"Then take us there" and Solia issued a ship-wide message. "Crew we are heading to the Torval system to attend a banquet that the Tagali Federation has invited us to and while we are all invited". "Per protocol, only myself, members of the first contact team and a squad of marines". "Though I don't think it will happen", Solia's voice becomes serious, "if the worse comes to pass you all know what to do".

Solia's closes the link, "Oia sent a message back to the Federation that" "we accept your invitation we'll be arriving in six hours".

The ship then jumps to hyperspace and heads to the Todval system.

Eris let the kiss pervade her being, because she knew it was more than just a kiss: it was a contract. It was a promise that they would never let each other go, never let the other hurt alone, never let them out of their heart. So she returned the kiss with all the passion at her command, before finally breaking away for breath. She didn't move her eyes from his as she did so.

"And then, they were one." She murmured softly, almost to herself. She turned to face down the aisle, her hands never moving from Khronos', and began to take the slow steps up it, before something knocked her off of her feet. As she looked around to see what was happening, she felt the arms cradling her and wrapped her arms around Khronos' neck as he carried her back up the aisle.

"You know, I can walk for myself." She beamed up at him, shaking a stray lock out of her face, "Not that I'm complaining, of course."

Ophius had her mouth opened to reply, but at the garden her mouth snapped shut. They had never been able to remove enough of the radiation from Spindle to grown anything except certain genetically engineered crops, so Ophius' experiences with flowered gardens only came from the Umbaran gardens, all of which had to be small enough to fit inside the protective domes that stopped the weather systems from destroying everything. So seeing a garden of this sheer size was dumbfounding for her.

"Well...you definitely have better land than we do." She smiled, "I'll have to come over some time and wander around." She indicated a chair to the left of the head, "May I?"
