I think the Monster Girl Encyclopedia is most people's primary source but I personally went for an easily well known Monster Girl Type in the kItsune.

Not sure what you're into but if it's bondage I would recommend some sort of Naga/Lamia (I don't know the difference there), or some sort of tentacle limbed monster.

I always thought the top half was humanoid with both of them. Meh, ya learn something new everyday!

The original Lamia didn't even have a serpent half. There's also a Lamia version that is a lion with a human head and has scales. Later they were supposedly shapeshifters that could chose what they looked like.

A Naga started out as an aquatic half human half serpent. Later it became a referal to all half snake half human with the exeption of medusas.

Edit: what it comes down to is the term changed a lot for both. When you get right down to it they've also mingled a lot and right now it's different for every medium making usage of them inventing their own version.

Having been raised with HoMM III, I always thought that Nagas had more arms than Lamias, and it was just that.

As I said, things changed a lot since the original.

Lamia was like Medusa, one specific person. And Naga were snake-people in general male or female. And over the centuries a ton of adaptations got invented and now in the golden age of gaming, every game and show has their own version.

Not really. Lamia is from Greek mythology and the Naga are from Hindu mythology. I forget what the Naga originally were (I think they were close to the snake/woman but with some details different I forget), but Lamia was originally just one woman who was cursed to eat kids. Her being snake-like came in retrospect.

Both are now just "like mermaids/centaurs but with snakes instead of fish/horses". Variations are mostly just creative liberty, as neither is actually correct to begin with. They're both the same unless otherwise noted.
