NS MAFIA II: MAFIA HARDER

QUICK UPDATE: IC IS UP!

Last time on NS MAFIA I: JOLT INVADERS, the mafia managed a rare perfect victory, keeping all three of their members until the very end. This time, more players, more and different power roles, and a third party will be even better. Old and new players alike - are you ready to MAFIA HARDER?

Mafia is a game of educated guessing and epic debates. The game consists of a town, the uninformed majority that tries to catch all of the mafia by lynching, and a mafia, the informed minority that tries to stay alive until they outnumber the town.

The game starts with a day phase - during the day, villagers vote on who they want lynched using the format ##VOTE SUPER-LLAMALAND. The candidate who receives the most votes will be lynched. If the candidate with the most votes is ##VOTE NOLYNCH, or if there is a tie, then there will be no lynch that day. The person who is lynched is killed at the end of the day and their alignment is shown. Use ##CALLGM to ask me a question.

The game then has a night phase - during the night phase, the mafia select who they want to kill, and power roles submit their actions (more info will be given below). At the end of the night phase, whoever the mafia chose to kill will be killed (barring protection from the doctor) and their alignment is shown.

Mafia Roles (3)

ROLEBLOCKER
You are <>, the ROLEBLOCKER! Once per night, you may select one person to roleblock, that person will be unable to use their night action that night. You may also submit a night kill with your fellow mafia at this QT link: <>. You win once all townies and the thief have been eliminated, or once nothing in-game could stop this from happening. Your partners are <>, the strongman, and <>, the easter egg.

STRONGMAN
You are <>, the STRONGMAN! You have a one-use special ability, which is the ability to make sure the mafia's night kill goes through even if there is doctor protection. You may also submit a night kill with your fellow mafia at this QT link: <>. You win once all townies and the thief have been eliminated, or once nothing in-game could stop this from happening. Your partners are <>, the roleblocker, and <>, the easter egg.

EASTER EGG
You are <>, the EASTER EGG! At the start of the game, you have no special night powers. However, if you become the only remaining mafioso, you will gain a special ability! However, the town will also learn about this ability. You may also submit a night kill with your fellow mafia at this QT link: <>. You win once all townies and the thief have been eliminated, or once nothing in-game could stop this from happening. Your partners are <>, the roleblocker, and <>, the strongman.

Town Roles (11*)

VANILLA TOWNIE

You are a vanilla townie! You have no special night actions. You win once all mafia and the thief are eliminated.

INVENTOR

You are <>, the INVENTOR! Once per day, you may pick one of the three items to give out: {Gun, Bomb, Cloak}! At the beginning of the night, whoever you give the item to will be notified that they received that item. You must give out all three items before you can hand out the same item twice (so gun-bomb-gun is not okay, but gun-cloak-bomb-crystal-cloak-gun is) The item may only be used during that night.

A GUN will allow the person to pick one person to kill that night!
A BOMB will kill anyone that tries to kill that person that night!
A CRYSTAL will give that person a single-use cop scan!
A CLOAK will render the person invisible, and block all night actions on that person that night!

You win once all mafia and the thief are eliminated.

TRACKER

You are <>, the TRACKER! Once per night, you may pick one person. You will be notified if that person visited anyone, and if so, who. You win once all mafia and the thief have been eliminated.

DOCTOR

You are <>, the DOCTOR! Once per night, you may pick someone to save. If anyone targets them, both you, the killer, and the target are notified that the kill failed. You win once all mafia and the thief have been eliminated.

SLEEPER

The Sleeper begins the game as a vanilla townie and is unaware of their true role. If a member of the mafia is lynched in either of the first two days, during night two, the sleeper will receive this role TG:

As <person>, the <mafia role> has been lynched in the first two days, you have joined the mafia, where your true loyalties as a STALKER lie! Your mafia partners are <>, the <>, and <>, the <>. Each turn beginning with night four, you will be able to scan one person. You will be told the exact role of that player. You may also submit a night kill with your fellow mafia at this QT link: <>. You win once all townies and the thief have been eliminated, or once nothing in-game could stop this from happening.

If this does not happen, though, the sleeper receives this TG.

As no mafia roles were lynched in the first two days, you have discovered your true power as a DETECTIVE! Each turn beginning with night four, you will be able to scan one person. You will learn the exact role of that player. You win once all mafia and the thief have been eliminated.

THIRD PARTY (1)

THIEF

You are <>, the THIEF! Each day you will submit one person's name. If that person has a power, you will gain that power for the night. However, the person you stole from will not gain that power. If you try to steal from a vanilla townie, you will be notified that you did not gain a power. If you steal from any mafia member, you will only gain the ability to kill. If you steal from the inventor, you will only steal whatever he gives out that night. If you try to steal from whoever the inventor gave a gift to, you will not get anything (unless that person has another power). You win once everyone else is dead, or once nothing can prevent that from happening.

Somehow I get the feeling that just because he said this, Galnius is gonna be mafia this time around. I say we lynch him in day one.

##CALLGM I'M assuming the inventor cannot give himself an Invention?

Correct. That would be too OP.

Any feedback on the new roles?

They seem reasonable; though the stalker seems odd. Why bother lynching anyone at all in the two days if that risks losing us our detective?

I think the detective is third-party, and thus plotting to kill the town as well as the mafia. I could be wrong.

Count the Wanker in, if nobody minds. Actually, even if some peeps mind, hopefully (as I'm sure some would mind).

Also, I remember something else from RL mafia. There's a matchmaker amongst the townies, who pairs two players up on the first night (by TGing OP). If one of the two players get killed, the partner gets killed too. The couple is not informed that they are together, if I remember correctly. Just an idea.

How is that a town role?

It isn't, at least not really. More just a gameplay element.

I've heard a different variation, where the OP designates one member of the Mafia and one Innocent to be "Star-Crossed Lovers". They are both informed of such when the game begins, and who their Lover is. They can only win if all members of the other team are eliminated, or if only they remain. So if the Mafia manages to kill everyone but the non-Mafia lover, the Lovers survive. And if the Townies manage to lynch everyone but the Mafia Lover, the Mafia Lover survives.

Items given by inventors should be always storable imo.

I think I had that in the Werewolf RP, except for, For the lovers to win, I think they had to kill everyone else if they were on opposite sides.

Mhm, there are several variants. I've played both, but sometimes Lovers survive in the one I outlined, and it adds drama as they try to decide which team they want to "play for". When they have to kill everyone else their odds of survival are hilariously low.
