I'm rather unsure. An incredibly rich Civilian, starting off with Wealthy and Elite Familly, or a Continental gentleman (Marquis De Lafayette style. Interestingly, one of Lafayette's descendants was named Georges Washington Motier) stateside leading either a group of mercenaries, or an actual division of one of the armies, or any manner of things along those lines.

We are in need of divisional commanders so I would encourage you app for one, but the Continental gentlemen leading mercenaries app sounds quite interesting. It's up to you.

History: In 1824, Gilbert du Motier, Once Major General of the continental army and Marquis de Lafayette, was invited by president James Monroe to tour the United States he had been so dedicated to. By the time he took the trip, he was in his seventies, a wizened old remnants of the times of the war for independance, having come to serve under Washington at a tender age, and now returning to the nation he had helped craft to see how it had grown. As he toured the nation, he was cheered at every stop, his arrival in Boston causing people to line up in the streets and cheer for the old man.

Lafayette's son, Georges Washington du Motier was fourty years old as his father toured the Union, and nearing the end of the tour he and his wife fell in love with the nation, and settled down in one of the numerous manorhouses dedicated to Lafayette. As the years passed, and age drained from them, they produced an heir, and a spare. The heir would go on to return to France to die, but the spare, Georges Charles du Motier would grow in this nation that so revered his grandfather, and eagerly joined up into the military as soon as he could. All told, he was supremely competent, at least where artillery was not involved. His familial reputation dragged him up the ranks, and he marched his way along the final stretch. He served in many posts, from cavalry to infantry to an ill advised command over artillery, before settling into work as a commander of infantry, just in time for the proverbial bomb to drop, and for all of the collective excrement to hit the spinning metallic blade.

The Newspaper held catholic and staunch conservative views. Sherwood's parents died in a carriage accident when he was 25, prompting him to inherit the newspaper. He moved to Harrison (Panama City) in 1835, and sold his newspaper in St. Austell. He started a new newspaper (heh), called The Harrison Times soon after he moved in. I'm not incredibly experienced with the time period, but I'd love to jump in if there's room for someone who's experience with U.S history cuts off in the 1780s.

You can go ahead and apply, military tactics have barely changed (line formation, rolling fire, frontal attack), unless you are James Longstreet or William Tecumseh Sherman, or a cavalry commander (where you can't just launch a frontal attack because of minie balls). I suppose it won't be hard to adapt much of your pre-1780 knowledge with the 1860s.

Just for new people joining I think the union could use an native American division so we can have skrismes within native territory. These were actually really important to the civil war in rl. Native turf was a very important supply route and the start of the war saw some major battles here.

Or it would still be cool to see some black soldier and native American divisions for the union.
