Darud doesn't even know who Thrawn is. The only person he (vaguely) knows about is Luke Skywalker. Who is literally only trying to find to see if he is a worthy opponent.

He can pump out clones almost as quickly as you can pump out droids once he gets the Ysami-thingys. 15 days per clone, and considering the ratio between clones and B1s was 1 clone = 10 B1s...
