Hungary, despite your intolerance of Moral Alignment, I'll give your app the go and you can put Satoko in the archive. Yes, moral compasses do tend to sway from time to time, it's just that this is an application requirement, and you're the first to complain.

Hmm, using a rifle despite being air infantry. That's interesting, not many witches do that, save for the Fusoans.

In any sense, Accepted! Put her in the archive.

Alright Sonitusia, bear with me here... but you just left Home Islands without its best Witches, two of its two major carriers and dumped them all half a day's hard sailing away from actively defending Tokyo. If anything seppuku is now in order. Like, no general staff officer with a shred of common sense committs all his assets into a wild bantha chase.

Especially since carriers are especially weak to Neuroi attacks. Especially ones with wooden decks.

For example, Kaga and Akagi.

As a note, it's not like the aircraft carriers are the only defenses Fuso has. I mean, the whole Home Island chain is one big unmvoing aircraft carrier itself, and it's doubtful the entire Fuso Navy witch Corps is capable of operating from a piddling pair of carriers simultaneously. So there's the Naval witch assets based on naval bases and the airborne witches the Fuso Army can field as part of the Army Air Services (basing this entirely off Japan's WWII organization, not any SW-related information).

So while the carrier force represents the mobile assets Fuso really has to 'investigate' anything, the Home Islands have any and all military forces based on them available for defensive operations if needed (and one presumes rumors of Neuroi in the place they sent the carriers to investigate would spur them to redeploy forces to the areas closer to the danger zone (*insert Kenny Loggins*) in case they should be needed.

There's also, of course, the possibility that the Neuroi were a Big Damn Surprise to everyone and the carriers were on a training/show-the-flag cruise away from the Home Islands as part of some kind of Greater East Asian Military Cooperation Sphere (awkward)...But at that point it descends into background information and such with the SW-verse I have no experience with.

Exercise areas certainly are not 200 km's from Vladivostok and a thousand from Sasebo or Kure. Besides, Akagi is unavailable for service because she's spending 1935-1938 removing the triple flight decks. We're left with Ryujo and Hosho and whatever conscripted Witches Fuso has available. Which is... pretty bad. Also if you don't remove the triple flight decks there'll be no Zeros from Akagi for the duration of the 1940's.

First, let me clarify. When you say Fuso's 'best witches', they are, at the time, still greenhorns. None had seen the fire of war save for a few of the commanders. Is it wrong for command to send in fresh witches? No.

In fact, if you've read the manga (which I hope you have) all aces-to-be of the Fuso Sea were indeed sent out together during the opening attack. I think it was because... Oh right, they were in a joint formation.

The only few slight differences in this fanfic is that Mio and Junko had already been in training several weeks prior to the event. Also, the carriers in canon were Hoshou and Amagi, which I had sadly forgotten, and will change now. Otherwise, I see nothing wrong with the current situation of things, and simply filling in the spot of a reconnaissance task group with another unit doesn't sound too bad. If you are so confused about defenses, leave that to the other Army and Navy Air Service witches based in Fuso. And the land witches as well.

All in all, the only mistake I made here is that I accidentally named fleet carriers instead of light carriers. I'm quite sure you can calm down now, yes?

Allow me to apologize for my outburst last evening when I should've taken my sleep that was delayed for 22 hours.
Now just as an idea I already TG'd OP with: Pair Kaga with a converted Tosa, there being no need to have eight slow battleships slowing the fast carriers down in the Second Round of the Neuroi Invasion.

Kaga and Tosa are faster than Houshou and about the same speed as Ryuujou.

Bloody typos...
You do realize the Kaga-class has an sixty plane hangar advantage to Hosho right? With both carriers able to do 28 knots you make life a lot easier than forcing a major combatant to essentially escort the escort carrier.
