28th September 1947 - Fliegerhorst Ramstein - 506th Joint Fighter Wing „Noble Witches”
"Oberst de Hemricourt de Grunne!" Major Gabriella Amelie Freiin von Banfield, second in command of A-Squadron, 506th Witches rose from her seat at breakfast to salute their unit commander, but she was preempted by the Belgian Countess by a fraction of a second. Puzzled, Gabrielle settled down again while Rosalie smiled and pointed towards her shiny new Commander's Cross of the Military Order of Maria Theresia, worn as ribbon with her blue service-dress, gazetted to her last month for her 200th victory and her leadership during Operation Hekla.
It was hard but pleasant work, advancing inch by inch against their alien foe and finally moving to reclaim Karlsland. Soon, they could be in Vienna, retaking the Empire from the Neuroi invaders who seems to be weakening more and more with every Neuroi hive annihilated. They had forced their way past the Rhine in Winter 1945-46, liberated their first Karlsland town (Remagen) and quickly set up multiple bridgeheads before the ground Neuroi reacted. The Witches had fought with nail and teeth over them, especially the Karlsland formations, the „Noble Witches” and the 501st „Strike Witches”.
With the new year, major armoured and infantry formations could finally move to liberate Cologne and Koblenz, and then the Ruhr area. There were horrendous casualties on both sides, but finally, after a year of fighting, the Neuroi had been pushed back behind the Elbe and the hive over Prague had been annihilated in a joint effort (Operation Hekla) from the 501st and 506th Witches. Now they had moved from their Dutch bases to Ramstein AB, retaken by the combined Guards units of Britannia, Karlsland and Ostmark. From here, it was all but a 20-30 minutes flight to the hives above Vienna and Berlin.
"Morning Gabriella, how are you doing?"
"I'm fine thank you ma'am."
"Good, we're flying air superiority missions today over the Elbe, you prepared?" If Gabriella was prepared? If counting scared witless when facing the large Neuroi prepared, then sure.
"Yes Ma'am, when is the briefing? I need to talk to my subordinates."
"Of course, it'll be on the late afternoon I'm afraid, high command wants a night attack to cross the Elbe."
"Prinzessin will be so happy over a night mission, Colonel."
"She always can't really hide her relief over high command conducting major operations in her enviroment. I wish she could be less demanding of her ground crew though, half of them I've already sent home for shell shock..."
"Don't we all wish that? But she's superb in the air, although very territorial. The only Night Witches that I can think of matching her abilities are Litvyak, Schnaufer and Lippe-Weißenfeld. Will you fly with us... Rosalie? If I may call you... that, Ma'am."
"I will Major, and it's fine, the 501st refer to each other by their first names anyway. Anyway Gabriella, see you around at briefing."
"Ma'am."
Saluting for her Commanding Officer, Gabriella sat down again when de Hemricourt left, heart filling with anticipation, but also a feeling of dread she couldn't shake or explain.
"We fly by flights to Sector A, B, and C ladies, as shown on the map. Two flights for each sector. Report and destroy any airborne enemy forces you shall find. 501st Witches will be handling sectors D-F. Night Witches, this is your moment to shine, direct your sisters to targets, and call out incoming enemy reinforcements. Don't enter turning fights with them, but seek to kill the core as soon as possible and move on to the next target, cover each other. We're to take and keep local air superiority throughout the night for our ground forces to establish a bridgehead. If you run out of ammunition there's forward refuel and rearm points on the Autobahn in Sector 01, as shown on the map. All clear?"
"Yes Colonel." A chorus of voices replied to Rosalie and she felt a sense of relief, they've been working their arses off during Hekla and Wacht am Rhein, but as long as there's a trace of Neuroi in the World they would never rest. Her girls were beginning to rival the 501st, who single handedly annihilated the hives above Gallia and Romangna, Rosalie thought with no small amount of pride, and walked towards the mess hall for the dinner.
And as usual, everybody who was in the Mess hall rose and saluted, which was really exasperating sometimes in Rosalie's honest opinion... Sighing, she smiled, returned the salutes and told everyone sternly to settle down.
Finding Sayn-Wittgenstein, Rosalie sat down with a sigh and a smile, slowly sipping on her tea.
"We fly in three hours Heinrike."
"Yes..."
"Don't you... don't you ever wonder what would've happened if Earth didn't get invaded by the Neuroi?"
"We would've been killing each other."
Concise and brutal as usual. Rosalie had had this conversation with Heinrike so many times before and each time she's been told that the human race was incapable of maintaining peace for very long amongst themselves. But they had one wish in common...
"I wish we could stop the fighting some day, totally. Discuss and iron out difficulties and never resort to the sword again."
"I wish that could happen too, with all my heart. But it doesn't, we're too irrational."
"Are you ready for the advance past the Elbe? We'll be at Berlin soon."
"Yes, I am Rosalie. You know how much I miss being in Berlin."
"The Wing depends on you and Eilika. I'll be very disappointed if we can't hold the objective tonight."
"I understand, I'd be the same if I were you, Rosalie."
"Heinrike."
This was it, Colonel Rosalie de Hemricourt de Grunne thoguht as she led her flight across the Elbe in the middle of the night. This was the prelude to Operation Waterloo, if successful the one operation to liberate Berlin.
"Alright, all units, assume Chandelle over your positions, we're expecting Neuroi..."
"Belay that, this is Eilika, they're already here. Sector Charlie, to your 12 o'clock. Two medium scouts... Wait... Sectors Alpha and Bravo too."
"Well then, are you all in on the plan ladies? Sector Bravo, retire. Alpha and Charlie, converge!"
With well drilled efficiency the two flights in Bravo Sector retired, never letting their foe spot their diminutive frames. Meanwhile, sixteen Witches from both sides sandwiched the Neuroi offending Bravo Sector. From fifty meters they all opened fire, spelling a quick and brutal ending to two of the scouts.
"Charlie Group take and secure Sector Charlie. The rest of you retake Sector Alpha. Night Witches to me in Sector Bravo."
"Yes Ma'am!" A few minutes later of thunder and flashes, scattering Neuroi fragments and Düppel the sky cleared to reveal the Neuroi main force, in the thousands, coming to stop them from crossig the Elbe.
"So many of them Colonel! What should we do?!"
"We kill them all the same. Remember, despite their numerical advantage, there can never be more than one foe on your six, even in a brawl like this. Now who wants to go first? Are you seriously all out ladies?!"
"But we've never seen so many of them all at once Ma'am!"
"They're all the same. Courage ladies. For the sake of your families, friends, homes and countries, scrounge up some courage! Forth, Eorlingas!"
"You are silly Rosalie, I hereby claim this as my battlefield, Heinrike out."
Chuckling as she saw Sayn-Wittgenstein speed past her with her famous line still lingering in the air, Rosalie made no hesitation in following. Then with a cry of "Ura!" all three sector groups followed in succession into what promised to be a very long and bloody fight.

They say that in the great wars of NS Summer, there was one who did not fight with blood, but with iron. They named this one the Master of Tanks, and the thunderous sound of cannon and the rattling of machine guns could be heard far and wide, the crossroads before the capital of CotM being defended by this valiant one until it stood alone. Shitposters layed in droves, and entire army having been slain by the might of Sonitusia, Master of Tanks, Commandant of Iron, and Slinger of Shells.

By the way, is there anything in the canon, which is about the Netherlands? I particularly have my eyes on making a floaty-witch with a floatplane striker operating from one of the Dutch Cruisers.
The Netherlands have made an appearance recently in the anime. Apparently Arnhem was completely overwhelmed by the time witch forces arrived.
Otherwise, there's nothing else iirc.

You can keep a personality secret. That's fine. But a moral compass is completely different.

Oh no I was fully intending to add the personality section once I settled the character in. The moral compass though is highly dependent on the personality and character history itself and it saddens me to see it actually valued higher than the personality section, thereby promoting telling-not-showing, something I loathe to do unfortunately.

Morality: principles concerning the distinction between right and wrong or good and bad behavior.
Personality: The totality of qualities and traits, as of character or behavior, that are peculiar to a specific person.
I can be an aloof person, but inside I actually care about helping others. I can be cheerful and happy, but I have no care for anyone around me.
