29. The Irish MPs are not after “Me frosted lucky charms”.
Yes they are! That's why I had to steal that red weather balloon.

My muse ran off just as I was finishing that off, but I wanted to get the rest of the post out for Prim and Mon to respond to other parts of. I need only a short reply for Margaret, or I'll just assume her willingness when I post again.

PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Character Name: Catrain Arkay.
Character Gender: Male.
Species (nation personification, human, alien, etc): Zarkanian (supposedly the definition of species is “most inclusive group of creatures that can still produce viable, fertile offspring; Zarkanians don’t produce biological offspring at all, but if they did, they probably wouldn’t be able to with humans anymore).
Age: 18.
Appearance: 4'11", short black hair (always seems oily but rarely is; usually seems messy and always is), freakishly vibrant, green eyes, chalk-white skin. Slender build, androgynous features, frequently energetic posture. Hands seem tooled towards dexterity. In most environments, he wears a pair of thick, black goggles, which polarize automatically to match the lighting of his environment.
Primary Objective: (What is your character's main goal? This should be the thing that drives their part of the plot.) Catrain was yanked from Zarkanians, having already rejected his primary objective. He loves, and enjoys utilizing, his abilities, but found the idea of operating as nothing more than a glorified infodump almost horrific. He wanted to be an explorer—to find new places, and to find interesting things within those places. His primary objective—at least, at the moment—is to find a place for himself within this new place, and to do all he can to learn about it (I’m referring to the building, not to the whole of Gallimaufry; that would be an awfully large thing for one person to explore. The building is weird enough as it is).
Secondary Objectives: (What other goals does your character intend to achieve? These should drive subplots.) To be helpful and useful to his hosts. To do everything he can to comply with Zarkanian teachings. To try and suppress the Zarkanian teachings that don’t fit with his new environment. In short: to be a Zarkanian, without being all that that entails.
MUNDANE SKILLS
These do NOT require points. These are the average, daily things your character can do. Examples are "drive a car", "speak a normal Foreign Language", "play a guitar", "write poetry". Some mundane skills come from your bio and are freebie. A soldier knows very basic training (shoot a gun, basic drill). Medic, martial arts or sniper would be a Specialized Skill or Talent.
List Mundane skills here:
Understands sketching and painting, as well as digital art.
Knows how to utilize and maintain Zarkanian technology.
Has an undergraduate-level understanding of mathematics, calculus, general physics, biology, chemistry, Zarkanian sociology, Zarkanian psychology, and Tertian physics. Was still in the process of being Taught when he was plucked out of Tertia.
SPECIALIZED SKILLS AND TALENTS
These are specialized skills that set you apart from the average person. You have 7 points to spend here. Examples are swordsmanship, sniper, coercion, piloting etc.
Ability 1 and Points Spent: Sketching, painting, and digital arting: 2.
Ability 2 and Points Spent: Memorization: 5.
OPTIONAL SUPERNATURAL CHARACTERISTICS
You have 7 points to spend here on supernatural skills or abilities. Sonic Scream, Levitation, Spell Casting, Shape Shifting etc. Superman MUST have his kryptonite, so Restrictions are what can't they do with their power or what balances it. They can only use it when they genuinely need it? They can't use it for more then five minutes without serious side-effects? Some things are allowed without points. A pegasus has wings thus it can fly. A raptor is fast thus no points are spent in speed. These "natural" abilities should be listed in the character's description, however.
Ability 1: Low-light vision.
Power Level: 3.
Strengths: Can see in most forms of darkness as clearly as if it were daylight.
Weaknesses: If he's placed in a well-lit environment without his goggles, his eyes will hurt even if he keeps them shut. If he opens them, the pain will be incapacitating. Without his goggles, bright colours are sometimes overwhelming. His eyes are really creepy, and if his goggles aren't on, they glow in the dark--not really helpful if you're trying to be sneaky.
Restrictions: Can't operate in environments without at least some level of light (his eyes aren't magic). The amount of light he needs is insanely small--he can see perfectly clearly in an environment lit only by a sliver of light under a door--but it needs to be present.
Ability 2: Perfect recall.
Power Level: 4.
Strengths: Can recall anything he stores to his long-term memory with little to no difficulty, and in great detail, up to and including things he doesn't understand. The idea is that, given enough time, he'll be able to figure out everything he encounters.
Weaknesses: Anything he stores to his long term memory is stuck there, forever.
Restrictions: If he doesn't store it, it's not there. He's very good at memorizing things, and he generally does a good job of memorizing environments and conversations, but if something doesn't get out of his working memory, it's gone.
MAGICAL OR SPECIAL ITEMS
List:
His goggles are heavily tinted, to allow him to see in bright environments without being crippled. They polarize automatically, although they can only polarize so quickly, and react poorly to constant changes in lighting levels. People who turn lights on and off are the worst.
BACKGROUND
Education or Training: Zarkanian 'holder.' Was supposed to act as a sort of storage device for information. All Zarkanians are assigned ‘Teacher’ units to provide them with information during their downtime; this education continues throughout their life, and due to the way the ‘Teacher’ units function, there’s no real question of an individual failing to learn.
Character Background/Biography: Catrain was a Holder in Zarkanians—an individual bred and trained to be especially good at memorizing and recalling information, and a highly advanced nation hidden away in a pocket dimension, respectively. Holders are generally used as information dumps in a variety of fields, and while most Zarkanians are given a great deal of choice as to where they’ll end up plying their trade, Cat didn’t find any of the options available to him particularly interesting. He wanted to explore and experience new things, and Zarkanians is notoriously xenophobic—the only opportunity he was likely to have to see the universe was during his mandatory military service.
His reticence didn’t go unnoticed. A few days after his eighteenth birthday, he was called to Catria—loosely translated, that is “sky island;” Catria is a floating citadel that serves as the hub of Zarkanian politics—and interviewed. Initially, the politician who had reviewed his record were considering reassignment, but as it became more and more clear that he wasn’t going to be satisfied with any trade where his memory could make up for the difference in biological specialization, they began to resign themselves to consigning him to termination. Individuals who could not be efficient are rarely tolerated, in Zarkanians. Cat was half-expecting it, himself. He was afraid of death, but he understood why his would be necessary, and was bracing himself for it when he was plucked from his chair and pulled out of Tertia, into the multiverse beyond.

Character Name: Catrain Arkay.
Brief Description: A small Zarkanian, with pale skin, green eyes, short black hair, and weird, almost opaque goggles. He was in training to become a Holder, or human information dump, but because of his interest in exploration, he was singled out for reassignment, and, should that prove impossible, termination. Before anything to that effect could happen, however, he was plucked from Tertia and brought to the building.

Red Dead Redemption's side missions are pretty cool. This one has a person in it.
(Warning: explicit description of gore and asinine video-game morality systems. Still like the writing; just. They're there.)

The usual: stochastic effects in the DNA replication forks, trashed gene methylation patterns, and misfolded histones coming off the high-speed synthesizers. It's supposed to be patched in the next release, but the word on the street is that the patch fails regression tests vis-a-vis the synonymous mutation fixes in the previous patch. *nods*

Well, I mean, I do right now. Not for the teen-group yet, but for Char!Bran. He was asked to describe what he saw from the helicopter. But it's not that, I just . . . I don't know, I'm still not feeling invested.
