Amanda polished off her eggs, washed them down with coffee, and refilled her mug from the coffee pot, leaving it almost empty. Margaret bustled over to replace it, and Amanda caught her eye. Character Name: Catrain Arkay.

Character Gender: Male.

Species (nation personification, human, alien, etc): Zarkanian (supposedly the definition of species is “most inclusive group of creatures that can still produce viable, fertile offspring; Zarkanians don’t produce biological offspring at all, but if they did, they probably wouldn’t be able to with humans anymore).

Age: 18.

Appearance: 4'11", short black hair (always seems oily but rarely is; usually seems messy and always is), freakishly vibrant, green eyes, chalk-white skin. Slender build, androgynous features, frequently energetic posture. Hands seem tooled towards dexterity. In most environments, he wears a pair of thick, black goggles, which polarize automatically to match the lighting of his environment.

Primary Objective: (What is your character's main goal? This should be the thing that drives their part of the plot.) Catrain was yanked from Zarkanians, having already rejected his primary objective. He loves, and enjoys utilizing, his abilities, but found the idea of operating as nothing more than a glorified infodump almost horrific. He wanted to be an explorer—to find new places, and to find interesting things within those places. His primary objective—at least, at the moment—is to find a place for himself within this new place, and to do all he can to learn about it (I’m referring to the building, not to the whole of Gallimaufry; that would be an awfully large thing for one person to explore. The building is weird enough as it is).

Secondary Objectives: (What other goals does your character intend to achieve? These should drive subplots.) To be helpful and useful to his hosts. To do everything he can to comply with Zarkanian teachings. To try and suppress the Zarkanian teachings that don’t fit with his new environment. In short: to be a Zarkanian, without being all that that entails.

MUNDANE SKILLS
These do NOT require points. These are the average, daily things your character can do. Examples are "drive a car", "speak a normal Foreign Language", "play a guitar", "write poetry". They can only use it when they genuinely need it? They can't use it for more then five minutes without serious side-effects? Some things are allowed without points. A pegasus has wings thus it can fly. A raptor is fast thus no points are spent in speed. These "natural" abilities should be listed in the character's description, however.

Strengths: Can see in most forms of darkness as clearly as if it were daylight.

Holders are generally used as information dumps in a variety of fields, and while most Zarkanians are given a great deal of choice as to where they’ll end up plying their trade, Cat didn’t find any of the options available to him particularly interesting. He wanted to explore and experience new things, and Zarkanians is notoriously xenophobic—the only opportunity he was likely to have to see the universe was during his mandatory military service.
His reticence didn’t go unnoticed. A few days after his eighteenth birthday, he was called to Catria—loosely translated, that is “sky island;” Catria is a floating citadel that serves as the hub of Zarkanian politics—and interviewed. Initially, the politician who had reviewed his record were considering reassignment, but as it became more and more clear that he wasn’t going to be satisfied with any trade where his memory could make up for the difference in biological specialization, they began to resign themselves to consigning him to termination. Individuals who could not be efficient are rarely tolerated, in Zarkanians. Cat was half-expecting it, himself. The usual: stochastic effects in the DNA replication forks, trashed gene methylation patterns, and misfolded histones coming off the high-speed synthesizers. It's supposed to be patched in the next release, but the word on the street is that the patch fails regression tests vis-a-vis the synonymous mutation fixes in the previous patch. *nods*

See, this is the issue with the biological method. I admit that 3D printers take longer, and the energy it takes to maintain typographical stasis in the meantime can be expensive, but the results are more reliable in my experience.

So I'm back from my pagan vacation in Salem! Was lots of fun. Saw lots of cool costumes (even one dressed as Sheiky baby). Went to nice restaurants and went on a ghost tour. Didn't get many souvenirs, only a t-shirt really. Spoke to (yelled at) some good christian people who were spending their time spreading the good word of god (yelling who was going to hell). But I loved walking around and seeing everything. Everything breathed Halloween there.

Will go again when I can. But being a 9-10 hour drive from where I reside, I don't know how often I can do it. Happy no tests were during the two days I missed.

Which reminds me, I need to play catchup on some work. I don't think I'll be posting much really this week, I need to spend some time on schoolwork. Don't want to bog people down. I'll jump in when I have the time.

Now, time to study for the chem test tomorrow .
