Historically, soon after ww2, Spain became an ally of the west against communism. I'm guessing we would too, probably quicker actually, as the government of the UK historically was a supporter of Portugal, and even sympathized with Franco to an extent. And Ireland.

And Portugal joined NATO. I'm guessing we could join even quicker with a border against a potentially communist country.
