History of your Nation: In 1948, Rhodesia and Nyasaland held a referendum, and Southern Rhodesia opted to dissolve the union and have their own government with a white rule, to consolidate white power. This lead to the emigration of many whites into the now established and separate Southern Rhodesia. A few months later, a referendum was held, deciding to declare independence from Britain and the Commonwealth, for they believed they could better oppose the spread of communism in the region and black nationalism independently. In 1949, there were a series of "attacks"(which may have been fabricated" upon both blacks and whites by "communist agitators". This led to the self coup and consolidation of power by Prime Minister Huggins. From that moment on, he was a defacto dictator, able to bypass the cabinet and parliament via a constitutional clause. The populace has widely accepted his benevolent albeit authoritarian rule out of a desire for security and red paranoia. Soon after, more "attacks" occured in the Copperbelt Region of Zambia, this time on whites, as they have a large density and population in the area. Rhodesia demanded and was given access to the land, and has subsequently, with white support especially, taken control of this industrial region. Now, the Prime Minister is looking to further ties with the west and South Africa.
