He's not going to use them. He is not fifteen anyway. After you all finish up the library scene it will cut to Robert cautiously driving to go pick up Marilyn.
Plus a lot of your "slice of life" animes have characters with guns. Once we get past the "What the Hell?!" part of him flipping out then we get to the understanding. You just got to let me transition him, else it leaves gaps in character development. Bit rocky start, but it can be rolled with, plus he is rather stubborn, he probably would not have believed Mr. K and thought it was a joke on the new guy even then - you forget that he absolutely did not believe in anything paranormal.
