Well, I was actually hoping for it to be either Shinto-Buddhist or Ainu, but a Catholic power in east would be kinda cool. Maybe a weird Japanese brand of Christianity?

Christian merchants and missionaries around Japan since like the 1200s. Thinking of doing a Shinto-Catholicism hybrid thing.

Generic Info
Nation Name: Republic of the Seven United Provinces (Dutch Republic)
Symbols: Flag, Coat of arms, Dutch Maiden (national personification), Wilhelmus van Nassouwe (national anthem)
Homeland Population: 1.5 million
Imperial Population: 56,000
Location/Claims: Netherlands, Timor, Alor Archipelago, Sumba, Cape Town, Sint Maarten, Saba, Sint Eustatius
Capital City: The Hague

Government Info
Government Type: Semi-presidential republic
Brief Explanation of Government: The Dutch Republic is much like modern-day semi-presidential republics. The head of government is the Grand Pensionary, who is much like a prime minister. The Grand Pensionary is the leader of the States-General (parliament), and is often the leader of the ruling party. The Grand Pensionary presides over the cabinet of ministers, makes most major decisions in domestic affairs (with shared powers in foreign affairs), and is the chief executive of the nation. The States-General, in addition to proposing legislation, has the power to remove the Grand Pensionary through a vote of no confidence. The Grand Pensionary can also be removed if his party loses the majority or is no longer the ruling party.

The head of state is the Director. While the Director is nominally weak, the Director can actually wield a large amount of power. The Director’s primary role is to oversee the Dutch Republic’s diplomatic and military affairs. The Dutch Constitution of 1690 states the Director and Grand Pensionary will cooperate in foreign and military affairs, but by precedent, the Director takes the lead in these two areas. The Director can also dissolve the States-General and call for new elections, grant pardons, and ask for laws to be reviewed by the Dutch Constitutional Court. The Director is elected every 6 years by the male property holders of the Republic, with no term limits.

Ideology: Liberty, republicanism, religious conservatism
Leader/s: Marius Sneijders, Director of the Dutch Republic
Isaac van Hoornbeek, Grand Pensionary

Population Info
Brief Description of your people: The Dutch are an austere, religious populace. The Dutch favor simple dress and simple styles, which is a tenet of their Calvinist belief system. Still, the Dutch are also a famously mercantile people, and many-upper class Dutch (many of whom are merchants) live a life of luxury. Since war hurts trade, the Dutch generally oppose involvement in major European wars, although they are not afraid to defend themselves and their freedom if they feel they are threatened.
Religion: Calvinist Protestantism
Ethnicity: White
Main/Accepted Culture(s): Dutch, French, German
Other Cultures: Various Aboriginal cultures, various Indonesian/Timorese cultures, various Bantu cultures

Military Info
Army: Dutch States Army: 45,000 men. The army is of slightly above average quality, as it has only been ten years since the latest major Dutch war (Dutch Rebellion of 1690).
Army of the VOC: 14,000 men. The troops of the VOC are of high quality, as they are highly trained, highly paid, and often have many tears of experience.

Navy: Dutch States Navy: 145 warships. The Dutch Navy is of very high quality, with the Dutch being experienced mariners, and having one of the best navies in the world.
Navy of the VOC: 47 warships. The VOC Navy is of high quality, being only slightly worse than the Dutch States Navy.

Other Info
Brief Description of your Economy: While Adam Smith won’t formulate capitalism until 1776, the Dutch are undoubtedly capitalism’s forerunners. Dutch merchants trade the world over, making deals and achieving great wealth. Through Dutch developments such as joint-stock companies, the risk of these far-off trading voyages is greatly reduced, making such trade even more lucrative. The main exports of the Dutch are tulips, hand-crafted goods, and spices, while their main imports are food and manufactured goods. In terms of government policy, the government takes a hands-off approach, and unlike many of its European counterparts, does not follow a strictly-mercantilist policy.
Goals: Expand colonies in Australia and East Indies, establish colonial empire in Africa, achieve economic dominance
History: After the start of the Dutch Revolt in 1560, the Republic of the Seven United Provinces was established, with William ‘the Silent’ of Orange as the first Stadtholder. William and his followers bravely fought their Burgundian overlords, until Dutch independence was achieved in 1583. Upon William’s assassination in 1584, William’s son Maurice became Stadtholder, thus establishing the position of Stadtholder as a de facto hereditary position. While some were disconcerted about the most powerful position in the Dutch Republic being held by a single family, widespread admiration for William and his family silenced most opposition.

In 1650, William III of Orange became Prince of Orange upon birth. Due to William’s youth, he could not be elected Stadtholder, and thus, Grand Pensionary Johan de Witt became the most powerful figure in the Dutch Republic. Under de Witt’s rule, the Dutch colonial empire was greatly expanded, with the first colonies in Australia (also called New Holland) being established under the auspices of the Dutch East India Company/VOC. De Witt also proved to be a wise statesman, keeping the Dutch Republic out of any major European wars.

However, de Witt’s rule ended violently. In 1672, Burgundy invaded the Dutch Republic. In the chaos that followed, de Witt and his brother Cornelis were murdered by a mob. William III, who was now an adult, assumed office as Stadtholder, and began a counter-offensive that successfully slowed the Burgundian advance. Still, the war waged back and forth until 1687. No territory was exchanged, but the war did result in a lasting animosity between Burgundy and the Dutch Republic.

In 1689, the Glorious Revolution occurred. James II of the Three Kingdoms was deposed, and William III, by virtue of his marriage to the English princess Mary, peacefully assumed the British throne. However, William’s move to London upset many Dutchmen, who feared they would become a mere territory of Britain. This resulted in popular protests, which eventually coalesced into a movement led by Michel van Haanraads. However, van Haanraads’ radical ideas (such as voting rights for women and incorporating Dutch colonial subjects as full citizens) meant he failed to secure lasting leadership. When the pro-Williamite Grand Pensionary Anthonie Heinsius was finally removed from office and exiled to England in 1690, the revolutionaries supported the moderate politician Isaac van Hoornbeek as Grand Pensionary. A new constitution was subsequently written, with the office of Stadtholder being abolished, and the Grand Pensionary being made head of government of the Dutch Republic, with powers similar to that of an English-style prime minister. The States-General was transformed, and turned into a parliament that could check the Grand Pensionary’s power and remove him when necessary. A weak, popularly-elected head of state, called the Director, was also created.

With the new Dutch Republic still only ten years old, there is much uncertainty. William III might still seek to regain control over the Netherlands, conflict with the natives could ruin the Dutch colonial empire, and as always, Burgundy is a major threat. Still, the Dutch are an intelligent and determined people, who will overcome any obstacle that comes their way.

Government Info
Government Type: Absolute Bureaucratic Monarchy
Brief Explanation of Government: The Sapa Inka is the absolute monarch, while the administration is split into four provinces, which are made up of dozens of provinces themselves. Only the Inka can become rulers, but competent young adults can take an exam to enter the Inka class. Also the government owns everything and there's a labor tax.
Ideology: Expansionism, Mitm'a Settlement, Autarky, Communalism
Leader/s: Sapa Inka Rimak Shakur

Population Info
Brief Description of your people: See Below
Religion: Intism
Ethnicity: Runa Simi
Main/Accepted Culture(s): Runa Simi
Other Cultures: Machupe

Military Info
Army: Literally "The Army". Numbering roughly 300,000 men, mostly made up of conscripts who are serving their labor tax, but being a professional soldier is a respectable profession, and many young men decide to go that route. Now armed with muskets and a growing population of cavalry horses (although infantry and llamas are still far more useful in the mountains) and iron weapons, the still primitive tribes surrounding Tawantinsuyu are far behind.
Navy: Literally “The Navy”, far less developed than The Army, The Navy is made up of twenty of what could be considered “strange looking Almohad frigates”, thirty “weird transports…?”, three “Okay, I can tell it’s a man-of-war… but seriously?” And several hundred reed boats and canoes. A total of 13,000 personnel man the navy.

Other Info
Brief Description of your Economy: Palace Economy Autarky. The government owns everything, and issues a labor tax in addition to a tax in kind. Therefore there is never a shortage of laborers to build things.
Goals: Conquer the world, at least South America and the Pacific. Colonize the Plains of La Plata. Colonize the Pacific, regain our population.
History: In 1320, the Kingdom of Qosqo went on a conquering spree. By 1440 they had all of the Andes and some of the jungles in the north under their communalist economy and administration. By 1530, when the smallpox started coming, they had a unified culture and language throughout the Andes, with nearly 46 million people. But that dropped down to six million by 1540, and the deaths destabilized the realm. There was a two decade period of instability as different factions of the Inka class battled for power, but in the end he who adopted horses and gunpowder won the day. Sapa Inka Kusi Shakur marched into Qosqo on May 14th, 1554, and began to reform Tawantinsuyu. His new dynasty reinstituted the labor taxes, and the resettlement programs. Horses and oxen allowed for dense settlement of the plains in the south-east, and gunpowder allowed for continued conquests and written word further assimilation, as was the Inka way.

Emperor Osmani made Istanbul the new seat of his Empire and he and his next six successors, known as the Golden Seven, conquered and expanded deep into Europe. By 1404, the Fall of Wallachia and the establishment of the current European borders was accomplished. In 1456, the Caliph died and left two bastard sons of equal standing. The two fought for three years until finally they settled on a peaceful split of the Caliphate into the Sultanate of Rum and Emirate of Al-Balkani. The Emir of Al-Balkani dropped all claims to the Caliphate and focused on internal affairs. Money was poured into converting, unifying, and developing the country. Jews and Orthodox were tolerated and even encouraged in the country. Catholics were stamped out. The current Emir and the one before him have focused on building up the navy in order to one day seize Venice. The current Emir is amicable to Jews and Orthodox Christians, especially Orthodox as they, especially eastern ones, know of intolerance and respect the Emir's grace.
