Walter waved his hand at Ichiru's mumbles. "Eh, it's sort of a natural law for every creatures. Mortals want to become immortal, while the immortal ones want to become mortal. Dark-skinned people want to look like white-skinned people, while the white people want to look darker - well, I mean, they like to get tanned, right? During school days, students always wanted a vacation, but when the vacation dragged off for a long time, they want to get back to school quickly. It's not something new."
He smiled at Walter. "I suppose...but do you ever imagine yourself that way...Being immortal, but wondering...truly...what it means to have a limited life-span?...I have not known that...that state of being mortal...not since I was a child...It seems so far away...and yet I hear about the man you buried, and I wonder...even as an immortal, if I were to lose that...how close am I, a thousand-year-old ghost of a man...to death myself?" he inquired, thoughtfully.
Walter went silent for a moment. He tilted his head to the side, trying to find a good answer. "Well..", he began. ".. this is merely my own theory, but... do you ever wonder, why God named mankind, who are mortal beings, as His most perfect creation?"
Stepping closer, he continued. "There are many other beings that was immortal and served Him, like the angels, for example. Why He don't name them His most perfect creation? Again, this is merely a theory of mine, but I think God named us so, is because our limited time on this world is what pushes us to make every single moment in our short life to be meaningful and memorable. It pushes us to fight, to struggle, to do anything we can. Immortal beings have so much time in their hands, so they didn't understand what it feels like to fight and struggle every day, just to make one moment in your life to be meaningful."
