"You don't? I thought you were immortal. You have plenty of time for anything, now. But I suppose you are right. My point is the events you call 'fairy tales' have taught me some invaluable wisdom, perhaps the kind of wisdom that you are sorely lacking, Seren," he answered, slightly teasingly.

"Listen," she said indignantly, and gestured towards the general area of her brain. "This is my hard drive and it only makes sense to put things in there that are useful. Really useful. Ordinary people fill their heads with all kinds of rubbish. And that makes it hard to get at the stuff that matters. Do you see? For example the sun. So we go around the sun. All that matters to me is the work, without it my brain rots. So put that in your wisdom file, or better yet, stop inflicting your opinions on the world."

Ichiru chuckled. "Now you sound even more petulant. Honestly, there is nothing more petulant than telling someone who is merely trying to guide you to become a better person to 'stop inflicting their opinions on you'. Those are the words of the horrid little girl in the classroom who does not want her teacher's kind advice, because she does not want to admit she could be wrong about anything. In fact, I find you are truly interested in everything but the facts. You say it makes no difference what we orbit around, for example. Indeed it does, because if we did not orbit around the sun we could not live. I am not a technical person, so I suppose 'hard-drives' do not speak very much to me, but I know that human beings are not mere computers. We are flesh and spirit, tangibles and abstracts, equations and stories, locks and keys. And you say you only want information that is useful to you? Perhaps you should actually start filling your mind with information, then, because from you I have heard and seen none, thus far," he replied.

MEGA ULTRA DESTRUCTO LORD TOPIA wrote:Kiri reluctantly stepped away from the shaken up and disheveled Everton before giving him a bright smile.

"I'm glad you're okay, you definitely gave me a huge fright." She said, a slight tremble in her voice.

She wiped her tears away before turning to face Alicia.

"WAHHHHH!" She cried jumping into the little girls arms at full force. The sudden weight added to Alicia sent the two girls sprawling onto the floor. She continued to hold tightly to Alicia as if she were a body pillow, bawling her eyes out from the surprise that they had just overcome.

"Everton just came back, and he's all beat up and he's sad!"

She continued to sprout complaints in between her fits of bawling.

"And he looks smelly and... And."

She stopped for a moment to stop herself from suffocating.

"he didn't bring me a present!"

The Little continued to complain and cry mixing in a bit of anger into her fit. A single white rose cocked it's head in confusion to the events that were transpiring before it. Overwhelmed by this sudden change in personality Everton and Alicia continued to stare at Kiri, unaware of the little rose staring at them from behind the corner.

Everton flinched at Kiri's sudden shout. "I don't smell... don't I?" He sniffed.
Oh, God, I do. That's a lot of sweat...

"Kiri... I'm not that beat up or anything," he said, barely audible over Kiri's complaining, "I'm fine..."
How does she change moods so fast?

"A present? Oh... uh..." he mumbled, his thoughts getting quite sluggish and drawing a blank. "Oh... that's good."
"I organised something with Merlin so we can go look at Excalibur... if that's OK... I haven't had much time...."

Quartz appeared at the door mysteriously. His face was soft and fatherly, and his tone was warm and inviting.

"Welcome back, Everton. You look a bit pale... something wrong?"

"I saw some pretty traumatizing stuff... But I think Kiri's helped cure me, ha."
Quartz smiled, and turned to the girls and noticed Kiri crying.

"Calm down Kiri, please. I told you to not be so demanding... I'm sure Everton's present is quite nice, but he's been busy."

Alicia can only watch as Kiri seems to break down in relief. He was fine, which was great enough for Kiri. She had an exasperated combination of anger, and joy, and tears which left a confusing mass of unintelligible garble. She clasped onto Alicia and had her in a patented snot-grip iron-clamp. fearful in nature. It was good to see her friend, Everton, to be doing better. He tried to speak, but Kiri was busy ringing with phrases of her mess. She had been all over the place.

It almost made Alicia jealous of how well Kiri cared for Everton. It had a familial undertone, though Alicia did not have sisters and brothers to share that type of bond for. Alicia was busy training, secluded. Wait. Did she have jealous thoughts? Why would I be jealo-- it's just Ki-- why would Kiri make m-- ack! Her face took a slight hue after denoting the jealous brew that took on her face. How dare those thoughts get in there.

Alicia then saw Quartz come in, trying to settle Kiri down. It then became clear to Alicia that Kiri had made a scene... that Alicia was stuck in a scene. It caused her to flush with embarrassment. Why should I be i-i-i-in l-l-l... why would I like her... She could not control that flushed heartbeat, and beating red face. Before a slight snap could be heard in the annals of her mind.

She had a distinct realization in that instant. She was probably... hallucinating. She had been just a little out of it since the battle. After seeing everybody so hurt, it made her a little... out of it. Yes, that made sense. Just need to calm down and realize that she was definitely... definitely... not gaining f-f-f-f-feelings for Kiri. The snotty bear grip became a thing of significant note. A dark cloud rose from her face and she came to be flush with irrational murderous intent, though her face was still red with obvious, yet not obvious emotions. "Quartz, was it?" she meandered, "I am just wondering if you have ever heard of a move called: 'The Burning Hammer'?"

After hearing Quartz speak Kiri's cheeks tinged pink. n an attempt to hide her embarrassment she squeezed Alicia even tighter, hiding her face in the frilly Gothic dress.. She knew that she was usually the unlucky one when it came to cards.

[i]But playing cards was fun!

She continued to mutter unintelligibly into Alicia's chest with occasional snipets of words loud enough to be heard.

"Cards... Unlucky.... Fun."

She continued to mutter away without a care in the world, completely unaware of the girl she was currently suffocating. Her sudden death grip on Alicia slowly eased as realisation dawned upon her. She ket go of Alicia and stood facing Everton. She placed her hand onto her hip and with the other she held out her tiny index finger and pointed at Everton accusingly. Her face stone serious.

Her voice turned ugly, "You."

"What excuse do you have for forgetting my present." she said her features suddenly relaxing into a pout.

"You will need my help more than you can possibly imagine."
He frowned, and waved his hand. A ball of smoke shaped like Michael's head appeared, and began revolving slowly.
"This man... He is the least of your problems.
"There is a whole universe out there... A whole multiverse, that is bigger than you, or even me.
"War is coming, Charlotte. War is coming, Merlin. Are you prepared to fight it?"

Matthew's Fire Code-Infringing Apartment
Liai placed her hand on Matthew's head, realizing his exhaustion.
"Sleep. Much will come, but it can wait for you."
Matthew opened his mouth to say something, creasing his brow in concentration, but he slumped over in exhaustion, fast asleep.

Everton threw this demanding and biting version of Kiri a confused glance. Quartz smiled at her warmly.

"Well..." Everton said in disbelief, "I suppose it's hard to get presents when I'm busy fighting Shades, rescuing the Chief Watcher and, you know, being traumatized... What's got you in such a spoilt mood? You're not normally like this."

Quartz shook his head at Everton jokingly, and spoke in a light tone.
"Perhaps you mentioning the end of her apprenticeship triggered this deep monster we see in front of us at the moment. Quite ugly, isn't it?"
Everton caught on and smiled.
"I agree. Something should be done, a lesson to be taught. Maybe one of your runesmithing lessons where you get out the giant tomes of knowledge and lecture?"
"You thought that was boring? I lectured you on runes, the same material, when we met and I saw what you already had."
"I tried my best to look interested, Quartz. I'm settling for the stuff you make."

Quartz grumbled unhappily, the misgivings of the teacher to the dismissive student. Switching the subject, he muttered, "How is Charlotte doing?"
"Good, being a lovebird with Merlin."
"I want the important stuff, not the gossip, Everton." He turned to Kiri and voice hardened slightly, although it still maintained a cheery softness, a parent's voice through and through. "If you want to talk seriously Kiri, watch your behaviour. Everton can't get you a gift because he's busy recovering from whatever it is exactly he's experienced, which he will explain to me later, and I hope you don't act so demanding in the future."

She stared at the smoke, her eyes terribly fixated, some deep horror locked inside.

She refused to access the memories. She refused to allow herself to be pulled back into the darkness of those long, lonely nights.

She refused to let him own her mind--it was the only thing she had left.

She forced herself to tear her eyes away, to look back at the Gambler rather than let herself gaze upon the countenance of the man who stole her childhood and cast her into hell for one more second.

"I've been fighting for so long," she said softly, "I don't know if I am prepared. I am weak, fragile, easily broken in body and soul. I will not deny this fact. And to be quite honest, the powers I gained from my bloodline are less than useful. But I want to be prepared," she said quietly. "I want to be able to fight. To truly fight, to fight back and to win for once in my life."

A portal appeared back in the Watcher's HQ. Walter stepped out from the portal, his face looking delighted more than ever. The joy of measuring a dead man and making the fitting coffin, it's a joy only he can understands.

"I'm back!", he exclaimed, his tone dripping with happiness. "Does anything happen when I was gone?"

Merlin

"If it is for those I care for.... I am always ready to go to war." Merlin said as he looked to Charlotte, then back to the Gambler, "I think I've proven that already. You know, the Heaven incident. And Charlotte. You are stronger than you think, and that desire proves it." He smiled.

Her face reddened slightly, and she stared at the ground.

"Thank you," she whispered sadly.

...I wish I could believe that. Why can't I ever believe anything good about myself? What was I thinking? Why do I delude myself like this? I'm such a fool! Such a complete and utter... What's wrong with me?! They can all see me... can all see... why can't I just... I always... fail...

Why do I will him into hating me? How can I ever expect him to love me when I loathe myself so deeply?

I'm the fool to end all fools.

And a pathetic whore, at that. Whatever happened to your promise? What was it?

'If this is what they call love, then I will never willingly have a part in it.'

That's what I said after finding out.

And yet here you are. Suffering in anguished silence because you've fallen for someone so quickly and so easily...

...please... stop it...

Or what? What are you going to do? Cry? You're good at that, aren't you?! Face it! You're pathetic, and useless! Just give up already!

Walter adopted a mock hurt expression. "Aww, Hashimoto-san, that was harsh! Was I really that unnoticeable to you?"

Eventually, he returned to his perpetual grinning expression. "Well, I consider anything that's happened as 'happenings'. Why? Because I love everything!", he exclaimed as he spread his arms around. "Well, not really.", he continued, complete with both arms dropping to his sides.

Walter's perpetual grin grew wider. "Why, of course! 'Tis a joy only found in my line of work, as an undertaker!"

He took off his top hat. "There was - finally - a customer in my funeral parlor. 'Tis has been almost a month since the last time I had a customer. I can finally feel the joy of measuring a dead man, making the last thing that he would bring to his death, it's..", he paused dramatically, to drew a deep breath, and exhaled. He nodded, looking away to think for a moment. "...It's strange, isn't it?...Mortals only think of becoming immortal...but immortals only think of...becoming mortal..." he mumbled, wistfully. Hearing about corpses being buried didn't faze him. Yet the mystery of death, that strange sleep that he had witnessed in so many others, always made him a bit wistful.

Walter waved his hand at Ichiru's mumbles. "Eh, it's sort of a natural law for every creatures. Mortals want to become immortal, while the immortal ones want to become mortal. Dark-skinned people want to look like white-skinned people, while the white people want to look darker - well, I mean, they like to get tanned, right? During school days, students always wanted a vacation, but when the vacation dragged off for a long time, they want to get back to school quickly. It's not something new."

He smiled at Walter. "I suppose...but do you ever imagine yourself that way...Being immortal, but wondering...truly...what it means to have a limited life-span?...I have not known that...that state of being mortal...not since I was a child...It seems so far away...and yet I hear about the man you buried, and I wonder...even as an immortal, if I were to lose that...how close am I, a thousand-year-old ghost of a man...to death myself?" he inquired, thoughtfully.
