"No. No," she said, shaking her head. "You were quoting something, what were you quoting?"
She crossed her arms, leaning to the side.

"Listen," she said indignantly, and gestured towards the general area of her brain. "This is my hard drive and it only makes sense to put things in there that are useful. Really useful. Ordinary people fill their heads with all kinds of rubbish. And that makes it hard to get at the stuff that matters. Do you see? For example the sun. So we go around the sun. If we went around the moon or round and round the garden like a teddy bear it wouldn't make any difference, not to me, it doesn't matter to me. All that matters to me is the work, without it my brain rots. So put that in your wisdom file, or better yet, stop inflicting your opinions on the world."

Everton flinched at Kiri's sudden shout. "I don't smell... don't I?" He sniffed.
Oh, God, I do. That's a lot of sweat...
"Kiri... I'm not that beat up or anything," he said, barely audible over Kiri's complaining, "I'm fine..."
How does she change moods so fast?
"A present? Oh... uh..." he mumbled, his thoughts getting quite sluggish and drawing a blank. "Oh... that's good."
"I organised something with Merlin so we can go look at Excalibur... if that's OK... I haven't had much time...."
Quartz appeared at the door mysteriously. His face was soft and fatherly, and his tone was warm and inviting.
"Welcome back, Everton. You look a bit pale... something wrong?"
"I saw some pretty traumatizing stuff... But I think Kiri's helped cure me, ha."
Quartz smiled, and turned to the girls and noticed Kiri crying.
"Calm down Kiri, please. I told you to not be so demanding... I'm sure Everton's present is quite nice, but he's been busy."

Quartz scratched his chin thoughtfully, observing Alicia's red face.
"The Burning Hammer, you say? I'm not well acquainted with wrestling, boxing or whatever contact sport that it probably comes from. I'm too busy working or looking after Kiri to spend time watching TV or anything like that." He smiled. "If I did have the time, I'd watch the documentary channels rather than sports. So no, I'm not familiar with it."
Everton looked up at Alicia.
"I remember you using a move or two on Kiri, back in the Shades' lair. Same time when the cards blew up. Quite funny, actually, looking back."
"You gave them those cards, Everton? Those were supposed to be for your use only, a skilled and lucky user." Quartz shook his head in disbelief.

She ket go of Alicia and stood facing Everton. She placed her hand onto her hip and with the other she held out her tiny index finger and pointed at Everton accusingly. Her face stone serious.
Her voice turned ugly, "You."
"What excuse do you have for forgetting my present." she said her features suddenly relaxing into a pout.
