He nodded to her, and his smiled returned. "That's the spirit. Are you ready to cross, then?" he inquired, looking at the door. He wondered if perhaps he seemed strange, to her.

"Yes," she said quietly. "But... if she comes back..."

She looked at him briefly, her eyes wide.

"Be careful. She can be very dangerous if she feels she needs to..."

And with that, she reached out and touched the door, opening it.

The fog did not budge as the shockwave simply faded.

"It's been a while since I have seen runes." the voice said, "You are mistaken. I am not the Dream Walker. The Dream Walker has given me consciousness in this mind. I am Void. But you dodge my question. Why try to stop the inevitable?"

The shared Dream/memory

No one reacted to Kiri, even when Kiri touched the man's face, no one reacted. Instead, the memory went onwards. The man looked to his right, and a certain silver haired individual came up to the bed and knelt down.

"My dear friend," The man said, "It is good to see you have not aged all these years we have been together"

He paused before continuing, making sure to take his time. "We have been together a long time you and I... Through thick and thin, our journey has been a rather intriguing one." He coughed "But alas, I fear our journey together is coming to its end."

With a sad smile, the man in bed reached over to where something was wrapped in fine cloth. He handed it over to Merlin, with the man's last words, he said, "Take care of it, Protect it. And whenever you see it. Think of me."

Merlin took the object, and placed it on the floor, took the man's hand and looked into his eyes.

"Arthur." Merlin started, "I will never forget you old mate. You are the greatest king I have ever seen, and the greatest man. I will always remember that you allowed me to be your friend. I will always remember you." He paused, "Sleep old friend. You deserve it more than anyone. Be at peace. I hope we can meet again."

A single tear rolled down Arthur's cheek. The last tear of his life, the tear that held the last heart beat. A silence covered the room, even greater than it had already. Merlin reached over and closed Arthur's eyes, before grabbing the object, and leaving the room. Hiding his face, so no one could see the tears.

"Arthur." Kiri breathed, her eyes going wide.

"That's king Arthur, like in the fairy tails," Kiri said in awe of the incredible figure on the bed.

Her cheerful features shifted to sadness and her heart lurched. She spoke softly.

"And this is his death..."

"But why?" She turned around facing no one in particular and quivered in anger.

"Why would you show us this? what does any of this have to do with us?"

She knew this was Merlin's memory, yet it was strange, it felt as though the memory was directed at her. The strange object passed from King Arthur to Merlin's hands throbbed with a peculiar energy. Kiri didn't understand, why was this horrible memory being shown to them, what was this 'Dreamwalker' doing? But something worse plagued her thoughts.

Who was Merlin really?

Shadow Giant

"Wha- What?" the shadow giant stuttered before turning to dust. Leaving a gold and red door where he stood, and a silver key.

Void and the Dream Walker

"Well then.... That was unexpected." Void said, and looked at the Dream Walker. The Dream Walker's jaw was litteraly on the ground. "I guess all humans, even Seren are capable of changing their views."

"Impossible. Impossible. What the HELL HAPPENED?!

"I have not a clue, other than you are currently lossing our game."

"There is one more group I can stop..."

The King's Death

The scenery changed to a hall way in a castle. Out the windows a great medeviel town could be seen in the sunlight. At one of the windows, Merlin stood, crying. He slowly unwrapped the item, and then started to cry even more.

"Why? Why would you trust me with your blade.... Excalibur... Why?" He spoke, "There are more worthy people than I, Arthur, why?"

He then noticed something missing. "The sheath... where is the sheath? Oh no... you didn't..." Merlin chuckled, "You crazy old king. I guess we will meet again. I will be waiting."

Charlotte and Ichiru's door

Upon opening the door, Charlotte and Ichiru would find themselves in a room. The only way out was a locked door. With three key holes.

"...Is that it?" Seren complained. "That was boring! I hope something better happens soon," she muttered. Picking up the key, she opened the door, still frowning, upset at being cheated of her 'fun'.
"...Oh. Well," Charlotte muttered, "I suppose that's an obstacle."

She started trying the key she held in the locks, hoping it would open one.

Ichiru looked at the three locks, and he was confused. "...Why would there be three locks?...Could the other two possibly lead to something else?...Or are they just decoys?...How strange..." he muttered.

He touched something on his neck, underneath his high-collared shirt. He was contemplating doing something, but he wasn't sure if he should go through with it. After all, dreams were tricky, and the Dream Walker was even trickier. He could change the dream on them at any time.

He could tell in her voice that she was not believing him, and he explained himself. "Considering we're under the Dream Walker's watch at the moment, now would not be the best time to show you. Perhaps sometime when we're out of here, I can show you what exactly I was planning to try..."

Everton squatted down close to Kiri. "I'm confused as hell, Kiri. I'm not sure what to do."

Kiri turned to look into Everton's eyes. Hard eyes, eyes that had seen many things. Yet even in those eyes that had turned cold so long ago. She found warmth. Kiri let herself lean against Everton and sighed. She didn't know what was going on and neither did Everton. A nervous feeling crept its way through her stomach.

"Hey Everton..." She said, her tone questioning.

"Why do you think we're being shown these things?"

"And where are the others, do you think they're being shown the same thing as us?"

Kiri closed her eyes and snuggled closer to Everton, the castle memory was cold...

Everton happily welcomed Kiri's fearful embrace, comforting her as he'd done many times before. He gently ruffled her hair and looked back into her innocent, bright eyes. So unlike Quartz's.

In a rare moment of intelligent thought, Everton replied, "Whatever the Dream Walker monster-thing is doing in Merlin's mind, maybe its discovered this link between you and Merlin, the one that knocked you out before... uh..." He grasped at words, desperate to avoid mentioning Merlin's death lest it upset the sensitive Kiri or trigger something deep within the hall. "Charlotte arrived at HQ, yes."

He turned slightly away from Kiri mused over the hall, and the rather different and bright view from the window. "The others... Their disappearance is part of Void's plan? The Dream Walker's defense against us? I really hope it's not the latter, you don't seem in the right mood for fighting at the moment." Sighing, he wrapped his arms around her and continued, "Neither am I. This castle and the peacefulness out there reminds me too much about the past."

Three Lock Door

The key reached almost instantly reacted to the locks. As soon as Charlotte place it in, the key got hot and the lock shattered. It was then that another two entered the room, literally falling on top of Ichiru and Charlotte. Seren fell on top of Charlotte and Mathew on top of Ichiru.

The Kings Death

"Defence." The memory Merlin spoke, green markings appearing around his body, "The Dream Walker you all running around messing with things now can it? Though Void probably has some sort of plan that is unknown to even the Dream Walker."

He turned to face the two, a broken smile across his face. The hall way darkened with a sickly green, and the holy sword disappeared.

"But it matters not. No matter what Void does, or any of you do, Merlin's destined to die. Though it is surprising that those others made it pass. I will stop your advance, and by extension stop your friends."

Ichiru gasped, as the other two Watchers stumbled through the door. He was even more shocked when Matthew came through the door and fell on top of him. "...Well, hello, Matthew...good to see you," he greeted dryly.

Dazed, Seren simply lay there for a moment, trying to gather her thoughts.

That was when she realized that whoever was beneath her was trying to strangle her.

Well, that's a bit worrying, she thought as her lungs began to strain for air. What's with that?

Remaining strangely calm, she looked down and took in the appearance of the person she was apparently lying on top of. Hmm... A feminine face, contorted in anger and--is that fear? I think it is--unfocused, brilliantly red eyes... If I didn't know better I'd think...

Then the girl spoke.

"Get off me," she snarled in an almost animalistic tone, and Seren's mind cleared.

Oh, I suppose she is alive, then. Lucky me.

With some effort, she managed to attempt to stand up, and felt the girl's grip on her throat loosen as she did so. Brushing herself off and adjusting her coat collar as she was wont to do, she stared down at the winged girl, who was breathing heavily and clearly trying to calm herself down.

Red marks were beginning to form on Seren's throat from where Charlotte had tried to strangle her.

"The damaged Naphil," Seren said with a sigh. "So you actually are alive. I don't know whether that's good or bad... Do try to snap out of whatever state you're currently in, it's quite... bloodthirsty."

"I believe you are only adding fuel to the fire, Miss Seren. But anyway, it would be good if you two did get off each other..." Ichiru suggested, ignoring Matthew for the moment.

Seren finished standing, and stood well clear of Charlotte's body.

"Has she been doing this to you?" she queried. "She just seems to lose her mind over the smallest of things. And look..." She gestured. "She even has red eyes. Does that seem in any way normal to you?"

"Probably not. But I'm afraid you are also not helping her to feel any calmer, by taunting her. So I would suggest you fix that part first," he replied.

"...But... I'm not taunting her," Seren said with a straight face and a genuinely puzzled tone.

That was when Charlotte pushed herself up off of the floor and stared around her, red eyes wide and taking everything in.

"...I haven't changed at all," she said, still slightly confused. "Have I?"

She blinked, and slid to the ground, closing her eyes and thinking.

I have changed... I'm acting more like I did when I was younger... before...

...before what? I... can't quite remember...

Wait...

no

I don't want to remember this

I refuse to remember this

...Hmm. I'm sure there's something I've forgotten, but... I just can't think of what it might be.

Strange.

"Sorry, old chap." Matthew hopped up, brushing himself off.
"Quite the fall, but then again, this is the mind realm," he chuckled nervously.
Turning around, he glanced at the door.
"Interesting... I wonder what sort of gate this is?
"Is this part one of Merlin's prison?"

Ichiru got up, and he brushed himself off as well. He was blushing slightly from embarrassment, but it soon wore-off after Matthew turned away. "...I believe it is another path into the depths of Merlin's mind, but I do not know where it will lead," he replied.

"But it matters not. No matter what Void does, or any of you do, Merlin's destined to die. Though it is surprising that those others made it pass. I will stop your advance, and by extension stop your friends."

"Do you mind?" Everton asked with derision. "We're having a moment here, and you just basically ruined it. Can't take a step back and just appreciate it? Jeez," he continued, standing up and leaving Kiri on the floor, his arms slipping from around her. "Do you have to use the whole ugly green equals sickness or disease or whatever cliche? Why don't you just go with red for anger or black for fear or something like that? Maybe be a bit more original, would you Dream Walker?"

He grinned. "No such thing as destiny, Mr Evil Merlin Remnant thingy, just luck and skill. Not to be overconfident, but I think we're going to save Merlin." He suddenly cut himself off. "Crap. I'm monologuing, just like you. Yet another habit I need to break. At least I'm in my element against such a serious and self-assured enemy."

Matthew Watcher.

A curiosity.

Continues to call me Hania. Keeps finding the oddest excuses to make physical contact. Signs that point to...

...not possible.

NO

Why does that remind me of something?

What is it that I've forgotten?
