Mark said nothing behind his mask; still thinking about the success of the previous mission, the Phoenix still had his doubts. Animal was supposed to be insanely strong, but even he wasn't the strongest - the Prophet was - and with their attention now diverted from hunting him down to dealing with Animal, only God knew what the heck the Prophet was doing now. Could he have discovered about the attempt to take him down? Would he be preparing? While he hated having to divert his attention to defending a country which he had no love for, the Phoenix believed that the Animal was with Prophet. If they were able to defeat him, it would weaken the Prophet's forces considerably. There was also the possibility of gaining more information on him - about his real identity and his powers, which he - along with most of the world - barely knew anything about.

However, there of course, still lay the good possibility that the whole operation could fail. A defector could give information about the attack, and the Animal would unleash his power. Silverfish would be nearly wiped out, the remnants of the once-mighty group, the only people who actually stood a chance against defeating the Prophet's schemes. This would be the worst-case scenario possible for them, and if things started to look very bad for the group, the Phoenix had decided he would abandon them. His life wasn't worth trying to defeat Animal, especially if the task itself proved completely impossible. He wasn't about to waste his life on something so trivial. The fact that he had little attachment to the rest of the group only helped smooth out the doubts he had about this - some might call him a coward, a traitor, but Mark knew these petty insults wouldn't affect him. He had been through much worse. Finally looking up at the Chief, his emotionless voice speaking, "I'm with you. Let's get this over with."

He figured that was enough for this organization for a little while. If he continued helping them then this war would be over before he could make a lasting impression in history. "Don't get me wrong, I have complete faith that you can pull this off," Gravis said sarcastically "or die trying."
