No, but stories get told, and some of the older ones would've served with him. Add that to the him popping in every now and then to get info (and buy drinks), he'd be remembered. By some, he would be remembered as a great friend and an amazing thief, by others, as the great thief the stories are about, and by others, the dude who buys everyone a round and asks about the Kingdoms.

Why would they still welcome him after he became the captain of the guard? His job now is to bust criminals like thieves!

He has no jurisdiction outside of the Kingdom of the West, and the Thieves Guild is in Southfall. Also, he's captain of the Special Guard, it's more protection than apprehending criminals (other than murderers or other violent criminals).

If they aren't in the West when Ril catches up to them, he has no authority to apprehend them. Besides, thievery is left to the Guard and Police. The Special Guard is more for murders, assassins, attacks, attempts on the King's life, etc.

Here's where I interject, the Thieves Guild has a stong presence in Southfall since it has a Important Figure supporting them, a powerful family so they can get of crimes by bribe in Southfall but in Northwall? Eastmarch? Prison. You can still pull jobs there but they will be higher risk. If you had the backings of the Ashens in Westgrove, you'd be good

Wait a second, if that's the case, why isn't the assassins guild after him? He has knowledge of their hangouts and command posts, so he could help coordinate strikes against them.

Also, let me put this into perspective. Nowadays, when a gang member quits his life of crime and goes to the law, he's put under FBI protection. This is because the other gang members would make attempts at his life. I think people would act similar here.

That's in no way as profitable as robbing the developed lands. People in the west have more money, so I wouldn't be surprised if some people (especially the expert thieves) robbed other kingdoms.

Yeah, his absence is why I attacked the Kingdom of the West instead. I didn't want to get caught up waiting for important posts.
