It is the third year of the decade, 1923. The world has experienced four of the most brutal years on record, World War One. The triple entente pitted themselves the triple alliance, the blood of millions watered the map of Europe and at the climax the death of four of the strongest empires to ever have existed. But from the ashes, a new world was being born. In the east, a vicious civil war gripped the former Tsarist Empire, with communists gradually gaining the upper hand over the White russians. In the former territories of Russia, Germany and Austria-Hungary, a panoply of new nations emerged. Hungary, Austria, Czechoslovakia, Finland, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and most importantly, Poland. To the south of the European continent, the Balkans, arguably the cause of the Great War, the boundaries of the unstable peninsula had been drawn once more, with Serbian led Kingdom of Yugoslavia dominating the area. Bulgaria, a member of the central powers, was once again belittled, what was left of Bulgarian Thrace handed to Greece. Romania greatly benefitted from siding with the allies, as a result romania has achieved a successful unification of the romanian people. Greece was in a wounded state, after siding with the allies in WWI, it hoped victory would fulfil its Megali Idea. They were never proved so wrong, being thrown out of Smyrna and Eastern Thrace by the newly created Turkish Republic.

France, Britain and America, arguably the greatest victors from the war, seemed to be booming from a post-war economic bliss. The stock market rose and rose and new ideas were pursued. But all was not as it seemed. Much of France was still devastated from the warfare that tore up its countryside, Britain constantly was dealing with Irish question, with Irish rebels fighting a guerrilla war and successfully creating an Irish free state that still has a republic on the agenda. The American power deals with increasing inequality between classes and race.

Germany is but a shadow of its former imperial glory. Losing the war, the treaty of Versailles was imposed upon it. Losing Alsace-Lorraine, Danzig and dealing with heavy economic reparations, it entered a state of great economic decline. But in the Weimar Republic, something was brewing...

Italy, feeling left out of the post war settlements and under represented in the gains of the war, was overtaken by a completely new form of Government, Facism. Driven by new imperialist desires, this government could sent shockwaves around the world...


And thus is the world in 1923. A red menace looms in the minds of every god fearing country whilst a violent new form of politics plans to take the world by storm. It is now up to you to lead your nation to glory or failure.

Hello and welcome to the Roaring 20s RP! As stated already, it begins in 1923, with all events that have happened before hand, happening. But now it's free play from now on in (if you can have logical reasons as to why it happens.) Basically you can be any nation in the world at the time, but as a warning this will mainly Euro-Centric, take that as you will.

2. Be realistic in your post. Germany cannot suddenly remilitarise into a great military power within a year.

Çankaya Köşkü - Ankara - Republic of Turkey

President Mustafa Kemal stood at the window of his office gazing out at the surrounding landscape of the city of Ankara. Last night, the harsh Anatolian climate had produced a heavy frost which now blanketted any available grass. It was the first day of the new year, and with that new year beckoned new things, things that promised so much change for the world. But as of that brisk January morning of 1923, only one thing mattered to the founder of the Turkish nation. His precious reforms.

For this week would be the week in which he would introduce possibly the most controversial of the reforms, the abolishment of the caliphate. It was true, the Sultanate had been abolished in the past year, but this was a different matter all together. Islam was a thing which many Turks took to heart, but it was one of the things that had brought their country into such state. The abolishment would remove islam from its heralded position in Turkey, instead the nation would be a secular, religiously free country. Islamic laws and education would be ignored, laws and state education would be supreme.

As he went through his speech in his mind, he felt no nervousness. Almost half a century in the military had almost made the feeling disappear completely from the man. In the National Assembly, it would pass, there was no doubt about that. The Republican People's party was the only party represented, a multi party system would be implemented once the reforms had taken full effect and were shown to be working, and Turkey's sovereignty established completely. He turned away from the window and went back to his desk, in seven days time, the caliph would be gone, but would Turkey be ready for it?

Switzerland, the definition of Neutrality, what a better place to host negiotiations over a treaty. And as such, the small Swiss city of Lausanne now hosted diplomats from across Europe and Asia minor. Bitter negotiations had ensued since the November of 1922, following the Turkish victory in the Greco-Turkish war. Points and words were flung all about, but the Turkish delegation led by İsmet Inonu remain resolute in the interests of Turkey. Now, on the first day of a new year, snow fell and fluttered past the windows of the now crowded conference room. Inonu now stood before British, French, Greek and Italian delegates, presenting their current terms to any signing of a treaty.

"Gentlemen, today on the morning of a new year, a time of great hope, I may add, I stand before you." He paused as to let the translators of each respective party do their work. He then continued, "I now stand in the hope that we can conclude these tiring negotiations, and agree to terms that we all find enjoyable. The Republic of Turkey's terms are as follows. Each of you shall have in your possession a map, and this map is what we prepose as the borders of the Republic of Turkey, each region you see on the map is majority Turkish, ethnically, and Muslim religion wise. These include the province of Izmir and the region of Eastern Thrace, despite our greek friend's views." He paused, looking towards the Greek delegation.
"Furthermore, we say that there shall be a swap of populations, to cease these pesky ethnic squabbles. Any Greek orthodox in Turkey shall be sent to Greece and in exchange, Turkish Muslims sent to us in Turkey. Continually, we are vehemently opposed to any foreign control over any foreign control of the Dardenelles straits or being forced to pay reparations for the crimes of the former Ottoman regime. Those actions are not supported by the current government, hence the whole point of a different regime." He looked around the room, "Thank you."

He sat down, it was now the time for the other delegations to talk.

Stockholm, Sweden

The Prime Minister glanced up from his reading at the sound of his door opening. As a team of men in suits walked into the conference room, he swiftly inserted his bookmark and placed "The Communist Manifesto" by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels on the table, got up, and shook hands with his ministers. He did this with haste, as he had several topics that he wanted to discuss with them. He waited for them all to sit down, then sat down himself, and cleared his throat.

"Gentlemen, as the Social Democratic Party, we owe it to the citizens of our great country to make their lives better. We have already taken steps towards guaranteed safety, through the League of Nations and non-alignment, as well as steps towards equality, with universal suffrage. But today, gentlemen, I propose to you that we guarantee the health of every one of our citizens. Gentlemen, I propose a scheme in which every citizen of our nation is able to receive healthcare at no cost to them whatsoever. This will let our people resume work faster after injury, and aid our industrialisation, but not only that, I believe it is a right of the people to be cared for when they are struck down by injury or illness."

He took a pause. There were numerous heads nodding in agreement.

"Is it settled then? Are we to make the citizens of Sweden the healthiest in the world?"

All the ministers seemed to agree, with the minister for health with a particularly excited look upon his face.
