OP Directives:

RP Description:
It began as a conflict of interests, one ideology pitted against another in an endless circle of hate. It ended in hellfire and ruin. Mankind used its greatest weapons against itself, tearing down in an instant what it had taken millenia to build. Our world, already realing from manmade disaster, soon entered its own period of catastrophe, as the hungry seas swallowed the land. Once fertile lands turned to dust, while others became alien to all but the most durable of the world. The world entered a heavy silence, mourning over the loss of its children. But hope was not lost.

From the ashes rose stronger peoples, destined to reconquer their lost homelands. Long lost truths have been rediscovered, and great ships once again bring peoples from distant lands cross the world. Our world has changed in many ways, but the true fight is yet to come. Will you lead your nation to a future of peace and prosperity? Or will you sound the drums of war as your soldiers feet march across the globe. The choice, august leader, is yours...

Tech Level

Postby The Allied States of Nova Terra » Sat Aug 01, 2015 9:35 pm

Tech Level and Developments

Technology in ashes shall not be considered to be one particular era, but rather a spreading of tech up to the 1950s throughout surviving nations.

Things that shall not be allowed as a general rule though shall be-

-Nukes

-Aeroplanes (Airships are fine)

-Heavy usage and reliance on petroleum, unless you are in a petroleum rich environ.

-Large Rocketry

-Advanced Bioweaponry

-Advanced Chemical agents

*This list may be amended at any time to include or reduce restrictions to tech

Generally avoid being too focused into a particular era for your tech, through some fun in their :D

Yay, wacky map!

I miss the old 1600s tech though, that was fun.

Anyhoo tomorrow I will start work on the app and expand my claim slightly (not much, just a few provinces).

Is the increasingly large nation = increasingly inferior tech rule still a thing or no?
Obligatory pros and antis:
Pro: Libertarianism, Protestantism, Gay Rights, 2nd Amendment, Scottish and Welsh Independence, Free Market
Anti: Communism, Socialism, General Authoritarianism, Welfare State, Feminism, EU, Controlled Economy, Gun Control, Justin Bieber, Utter Ridiculousness

You technically can have 1600s tech :P

only for hyper advanced techs/ city states that are fully advanced, but insular to protect this knowledge

Yes but no one wants to have galleons when you can get raped by ironclads and dreadnoughts, which makes the 17th century wholly un-fun.

Okay, but what about something like that wacky red thing down the west coast of Europe? If only insular city-states can even reach the tech ceiling, what is a state like that capable of having?

The Imperium is my state, basically Britisher and Welsh Diasporas along the West of Europe. Tis beautiful ;U;

All states can reach the tech ceiling, just not in all areas for complete advancement. For instance, the Imperium might use radio, airships, machine guns and some steam ships, but may rely more on simpler techs, such as cavalry, gatling guns, telegraphs and clippers for effective usage.

I would check what it takes to maintain the management of that, I think it is mostly shale there, I was thinking most petroleum usage would be around areas that have it seeping from the ground like tarry black moss ;U;

Get out of Med pls. :p

I see (or maybe I don't) so it is more along the lines of, the smaller and less populous the state, the easier it is for it to bring into use a greater number of more modern technologies compared to larger neighbors?

Pretty much, larger states will have more variation depending on location for tech

Okay, I guess that makes sense. I will probably range from about 1850-1920 or thereabouts.

Hey, I just have to say, my friend Aetern really doesn't like this map, partly because 90% of his population is now gone from this and also because sea level rise after a nuclear war makes no sense according to him.

It's not as just nukes but due to climatic change too. Also nukes hit Greenland.

And if 90% of his population is gone then they moved into the hills. Like in Califorjia.

Generic Info
Nation Name: The Kingdom of Armaenia
Symbols: Flag
Location: http://i.imgur.com/unJAcCI.png
Homeland Population: 18,000,000
Imperial Population: 18,000,000
Capital City: Ye'Revan

Government Info
Government Type: Constitutional Administrative Monarchy
Brief Explanation of Government: Armaenia is ruled by a monarch that exercises considerable, though not absolute, power over the country. His power is limited by the Zhoghov, or Assembly, who with a super majority (310 out of 450 seats) can block the monarch's most major actions and policies. Generally speaking though, the day-to-day running of the kingdom is controlled by the King or Queen and outside the Zhoghov's control. Provinces are governed by Zhoghov-approved governors who serve for terms of 7 years. These governors may serve a maximum of three terms, or 21 years. The power of the Armaenian Apostolic Church has been considerably reduced by the Saroyan Dynasty over the past half-century, and while no longer a political force that was once second only to the monarchy it does still wield some political clout, mostly manifested in the opposition LCP Party. (Lord's Christian Party).

Ideology: Christian Nationalism, Free Market, Conservatism
Leader/s: King Tigranes II Saroyan, Speaker of the Zhoghov Mikhail Torosian (though his power is inferior when compared with Tigranes)

Population Info
Brief Description of your people: The majority of the population has been mixed into a sort of Transcaucasian ethnic group made up of Georgian, Chechen and Armenian bloodlines, but with firmly Armenian customs due to the conquests of the Saroyan dynasty. Russyans (Russians) remain a distinct people but are not considered that far removed from the Armaenians, due to their similar language and nearly four hundred years of Saroyan rule that has seen the ethnic group become very valuable to the kingdom, especially as sailors. The Azeris remain entirely separate, and are often treated as second-class citizens, although they have recently been granted the freedom to worship Allah openly.

Religion: The 'new' Armaenian Christianity is an amalgam of Miaphysite and Russian/Georgian Orthodox doctrines. It is headed by a Patriarch, who retains his role as the kingdom's spiritual leader even though the position has lost considerable political power over the last 150 years (The current patriarch isn't terribly bothered by this, which suits the king just fine) after a series of power struggles which left the monarch the sole, undisputed primary leader of the nation. Armaenian Christianity has incorporated over a dozen saints since the collapse, but conversely has dropped many of the well-known old world saints. The newer saints have been elevated to such a level that they are almost on par with Jesus Christ in terms of where they fall into the theological hierarchy. While religion is important to the Armaenian people, the more recent Saroyan kings don't act very often on it or because of it, and the kingdom is fairly tolerant of other religions, even granting the Azeri Muslims freedom to worship publicly some twenty years ago.

Saryoism is essentially a personality cult centered around the earlier Saroyan dynasty kings. It was not endorsed by King Vard or his son the current monarch, Tigranes II. Despite having fallen out of favor at the royal court, the cult persisted and has maintained an established priesthood.

Religious make-up of Armaenia:

Armaenian Christian 85%, Saryoism 8%, Islam 7%

Ethnicity:
Main/Accepted Culture(s): Armaenians (formed from the original Georgian, Armenian and other smaller Caucasus populations, along with some who have origins in Russia) who are about 79%. Russyans (Russians with significant Armenian influence on their language) make up another 14%.
Other Cultures: Azeri

Military Info
Army: 170,000 strong. The Armaenian Army possesses small numbers of light tanks (on par with 20's tanks) but mainly focuses on developing new recruits into well-trained infantrymen. The standard-issue rifle of the branch is the Ohanian Mk. II, a bolt-action weapon. The branch also utilizes fully automatic machine guns and early submachine gun designs, along with heavy artillery to soften up enemy defenses. Generally, the Army utilizes military technology mostly prevalent in the 1910's. It has seen numerous engagements and is a fairly well-trained, if by no means superb, force. An elite sub branch known as the Royal Guard is comprised of 15,000 men. They serve as elite shock troops and possess a near-fanatical loyalty to their country. The Royal Guard is also responsible for the protection of the king and the royal family.

Navy: The Royal Armaenian Navy is the most important and best-funded branch of the military, as Armaenia needs significant naval power to maintain control of the Caspian Straits. The present state of the Navy is derived from a strong tradition of seamanship in Armaenia that goes back three hundred years, especially among the Russyan minority. The Saroyan kings have always maintained a powerful Navy, and the needs of the branch have, almost without interruption, always come before the army's. The sailors of the RAN are superbly trained, and the branch has many engagements to draw on.

Other Info
Description of Tech Level:
Brief Description of your Economy: As Armaenia controls the straits linking the enlarged Caspian with the Black Sea, and therefore linking states in former Siberia with the Mediterranean world and vice versa, the kingdom has profited immensely off tariffs and trade flowing through these valuable straits. Iron deposits in the Caucasus has fueled Armaenia's industrialization in the north and west, while the country becomes steadily more rural the further south and east one travels. Armaenia's industrialized northern ports possess a thriving ship-building industry while also doubling as stop overs for traders headed through the straits. While certainly not as industrialized as say, OTL Germany in 1900, Armaenia certainly possesses significant manufacturing capacities.
Goals: Profit through trade, ensure hegemony over those straits, maybe expand north a bit (or south if it is easier)
History:

After the fall, tiny Armenia rapidly fell into anarchy and lawlessness, which pervaded the region for the first catastrophic century. As the effects of radiation began to clear however, farming and permanent settlement became easier endeavors. By 173, eight of the largest settlements in Armenia joined together in the League of Vanadzor, who needed to stick together for common defense, in order to better fend off warlords. Over the next half-century, trading contacts with Georgia and Azerbaijan increased, which brought the Slavic religious influences that are a big part of modern Armaenian Christianity. Several Georgian settlements also joined the League, beginning the process of cultural mixing between Georgians, Armenians, Chechens, and Ossetians. The Armenians led the League as their towns were among the more prosperous. The tiny states gained confidence and began launching campaigns of outright conquest, which bit by bit brought the Caucasus region under Vanadzor's control.

By 300, the Armenian language had taken in large Georgian linguistic influences and the distinction had to be made between the growing use of Armaenian, which serves as the kingdom's primary language, and original Armenian, the use of which was already waning by 300 and at this point has been extinct for three centuries. Additionally, practices and doctrines from the Georgian Orthodox Church and the Armaenian Apostolic Church became increasingly similar until they overlapped to such a point that two became one, today known as simply 'Armaenian Christianity.' The authority of a patriarch is recognized, but there are only about two dozen saints that are widely revered (praying to them is looked down upon) and most of the original old-world Apostles have actually fallen out of relevance.

The League reached the coasts of the Black Sea and greatly enlarged Cas'pan, beginning a long tradition of trade and seamanship that pervades the country to this day. The Azeri member cities fiercely resisted the cultural blending occurring between the Georgians and Armenians. While large populations migrated north into Georgia and former Russia (most of these also became Christian and adopted the Armaenian language), most remained in their homeland and continued to be a distinct ethnic group.

Trade with the Slavic states of former Russia, as well as Persia and numerous Balkan trading cities, brought considerable wealth to the League. It's position between Persia and states farther east, the various Slavic kingdoms, and states located in Turkey and Bulgaria made it a trading hub, a position it holds to this day.

Foremost among the Armenian cities was Alawerdi, which gained an increasing amount of control over the League starting around 400. Eventually, when it tried to claim full leadership of the League, several other cities formed a coalition against it, starting the Vanadzor Civil War. Alawerdi's only ally was the city of Hrasdan, but due to the military acumen of Armas Saroyan, Alawerdi's reigning lord, the Alawerdi-Hrasdan alliance triumphed after eight years. As a result, the League split, and several cities almost immediately pledged fealty to Armas, who spent the next decade conquering the former League cities that would not submit to him. Soon his armies were invading territory not previously held by the League. Armas styled himself 'King of Caucasia' but towards the end of his reign in 527, he declared the ancient Kingdom of Armenia to be restored as Armaenia. He christened his son and heir Artaxias, starting a long tradition of ancient Hellenic and sometimes Persian names being used for the royal family, reflecting Armenia under the Artaxiad dynasty.

Seeing as how water levels have risen enough to cover parts of the Himmilayas, am I correct in assuming the world to be significantly warmer?
