Huh, I certainly can't fault you for lack of effort. Have you ever thought about punctuation other than commas and periods? Your style is one of the few that could benefit from some nice colons (not the anal kind), sexy semi's, and maybe some unorthodox ones like the dash I personally use.

I've thought about using dashes. I'll try it more. Never really used colons (other than some dialogue) and semi's. Examples?

My itch with it is I can't seem to make a good character, one that I like atleast.

Colons are used in the following ways: to clarify a statement by providing further detail (think movie titles), or to enumerate a list of like things.

Semicolons are usually a lot more rare; colons less so. They serve to connect two indeprndent clauses with equal weight of meaning, specifically excluding clarification. Some people use them in situations requiring multiple descriptions or viewpoints; others use them to describe a sequence of actions. Note that they can usually be replaced with commas and a little rewording. Additionally, they will likely be followed by a conjunctive adverb + comma when used to describe sequences.

It's just an opinion but to my mind the most important part of a character is motivation and hardship, you can make almost any weirdo or straight up basted compelling as long as they really want something and it's really hard for them to get. Maybe this is not the best rp to put this into practice because it's less plot heavy but arguably sandbox rp need character motivation even more than normal, because you can do whatever it's really helpful for consistent chargers development if you can put your finger on "what would my character want to do right now and why?"

In Gabriel 's case it seems like his primary motivation is trying to live a normal life despite his condition which definitely has potential, so I would centre his narrative around that if it were me.

It's also just my opinion but oftentimes if the sentence you're writing needs a semi colon or a colon it often means that section is a little clunky or overwritten and could be made snappier. That's more of a general writing thing though, in r ps where detail is King semi colons are probably more useful. I still think they look clunky though.

Alright. I'll have to wrap my head around this.

Basically just use them like bigger commas. The reason I say this is because you like to link a lot of things together in complex sentences, which is good, but you also almost exclusively use commas to separate the ideas, which makes them rambly run-on sentences.

As for characters, I dunno. That's up to you. For example, the bookstore character is basically how I want to behave in everyday life: no filter and no shits given.

Semi colons are actually new to most people, The kind of sentences where they fit don't really come up in most people's natural writing styles and since you don't read them as much it feels less natural to use them so it's sort of self perpetuating. This is part of the reason they can look clunky, because they aren't common you have to stop and think about them and it's jarring, it pulls you out, especially in fiction.

Also I promise I'll post in Fate tomorrow. Just trying to figure out who I should bait.

I admire elegance, conveying a lot with a little, partly because my writing trends naturally towards flowing, meandering and lingering on details. It's less present in my rp'ing because I don't have as much control over the descriptive details and I don't really wanna TG the Op half a dozen times asking "is it cool if I make the tiles of this house red? And add ivy to the walls? And weeds under the Windows?" Etc etc. It's also far less interesting to muck about with detail if you can't really do what you want with it, use it for metaphors and stuff so it tends not to crop up as much in NS.

But when I'm writing fiction I tend to have lots of long sentences with lots of commas, they're great for building tension or setting a slower pace.

I think it's interesting you think I don't use commas though as I always notice a lot of them in my writing, I counted four in one sentence in my last Fate post for example. Actually that's not a great sentence and it's something I would have edited if I went back over it.

I'm sorry, that was phrased badly. What I mean when I say you never use commas isn't that you avoid using commas, it's that there are a lot of places where you could/should use commas and don't. Thus, I kind of get a rushed feeling whenever I read your posts, as if you want me to get through it as fast as possible.

Donner, if you want, I could give some further examples of pause usage and sentence structure, perhaps by editing some of your writing?

What I mean when I say you never use commas isn't that you avoid using commas, it's that there are a lot of places where you could/should use commas and don't. Thus, I kind of get a rushed feeling whenever I read your posts, as if you want me to get through it as fast as possible.

Donner, if you want, I could give some further examples of pause usage and sentence structure, perhaps by editing some of your writing?

Yeah, sure. Anything to improve.

Any preferences?

Particularly semi-colons and where I could use them. But whatever you spot is fine.

So how knowledgable are you all with anime? Cause I found a character I'd love to use, but I can't figure out where she's from so I can look for more. However, I know nothing about anime, so I have no idea who she is.

The girl on the right. The girl on the left I know is Rin from Fate/Stay Night (only cause it says so)

I started a character picture collection for RPs, Fantasy and Sci-Fi. If you want to use a pic, go for it. If you want to add one, TG it to me.
