(2008-2013) The Beginning of The End
In 2008, the global recession hits as normal but hits certain countries harder than others. America, China, France, Germany, Japan, South Korea, Russia, and the United Kingdom are some of the hardest hit countries of the abrupt recession. With widespread economic turmoil in the United States, newly elected president Barack Obama makes the choice to cut the military significantly. Coinciding with the military cuts, the Republic of Korea asks for America to remove it's forces from the DMZ, feeling that they can defend themselves without American protection, but the main factor being public pressure do to the forces taking up resources that Korean citizens need during the recession.
In early 2009, Kim Jong-il dies with his son, Kim Jong-un, being the successor. Kim Jong-un immediately begins talks with the South of reunification. Under a "one nation, two system'' policy, the two countries united into one hoping for greater economic prosperity. While in the middle east, Iran declares war on Saudi Arabia after Arabia assists Israel in a military operation attacking Hezbollah and the Gaza Strip. This causes oil prices to inflate slightly due to the worries of both countries oil supplies being damaged.
In Europe, the French, German, and British economic crises ripple throughout the continent causing widespread turmoil economically throughout Europe. Spain, Italy, Greece, and Denmark suffer greater economic strife. Civil unrest rises in Greece and Spain after both countries pass bills that cut public programs to their citizens. The unrest spreads throughout the Balkans and central Europe. This unrest is known as "The Civil Wildfire", as it's rapid spread and uncontrollable growth was similar to that of wildfires.
In mid-2011, Greece and Spain fell to economic collapse and ensuing civil war raged on. Americans, noting the chaos taking place in Europe, took to the streets to call for stronger protection economically. While the Iran-Saudi war raged, the two countries became embroiled in corresponding campaigns that targeted oil reserves across both countries (The Oil War), this caused a subsequent energy crisis (2011 Oil Crisis) that led Russia stop selling it's oil and only trading to former soviet states such as Ukraine, Belarus, and Kazakhstan. This lead to oil prices inflating so high that most Americans, and people around the world, simply refused to drive, opting to ride bikes and other means of transportation.
The Automobile Industry Collapse caused various countries' economies to buckle, such as Japan, due to their large industry of automobile. In early 2012, Russia formed the Eurasian Energy Community (EaEC), a designated energy market closed off to countries outside of the Eurasian region. Introductory members were Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, and Ukraine, but soon included Georgia, Azerbaijan, Armenia, and Turkey, with the newly formed Greater Korean Republic as an observer.
In late 2013, the United States passed the Renewed Deal, a bill that fundamentally and immediately cut programs made during Franklin Roosevelt's famous "New Deal" in the thirties. Meeting swift and hefty disapproval in forms of riots and protests, the American government was forced to declare martial law. Meanwhile, massive inflation and economic failure are main ingredients leading to the total collapse of the Euro and the Eurozone. Countries like France and Germany see unparalleled unrest.
Seeing an opportunity to strike, Kim Jong-un declares war on Japan. Citing it as a betterment for the Japanese people, they invade Japan. Japan swiftly surrenders after allies fail to aid them due to their own economic failures, not to mention nuclear annihilation looming over their heads. The United States lobbies for U.N sanctions, but a downtrodden world economy disagrees and worldwide sanctions fail. In response, the Greater Korean Republic runs exercise drills with Russia in the Pacific Ocean. The United States is quick to react by running their own exercises, leading to the Korean-American Crisis of 2013.
(2014-2064) The End War
The Korean-American Crisis of 2013 was a tension that ultimately escalated where it shouldn't have. Korean warships ran into American ships during their respective exercises leading to a intense standoff. After Korean ships, confusing the Americans for Russians, mistakenly fired a dummy missile at the Americans, the U.S Navy returned fire sinking the unarmed Korean fleet. The event lead directly to the invasion of Hawaii by Korean Forces, with it's allies in Russia invading Alaska. The Invasion of Hawaii and Alaska resulted in mass chaos in the mainland, especially after it was announced that they had been lost to enemy forces.
After an assault on Los Angeles, enemy coalition forces invade San Francisco and took the city thanks to sheer manpower. After it was apparent that the United States was not capable of fighting back, the United States invoked Article V of the North Atlantic treaty, calling for the assistance of all NATO members. With only the United Kingdom coming to the aid of the States, the other failing to honor their commitments, the United States fired off nuclear warheads at the Greater Korean Republic and Russia. The GKR and Russia responded by doing the same to the United States, the United Kingdom fired at Russia, Russia back at the U.K. France, coming to the United Kingdom's defense, fired at Russia.
Various countries fired off their nuclear stockpiles until they simply ran out, leading to the world becoming a vast wasteland thanks to World War III, more commonly known as the End War. Europe became a singular continuity government, working with the U.S Contingency Government to form shelters for the survivors of the End War. Continuity governments such as the EACG (Eurasian Contingency Government), PRCG (People's Republic Contingency Government), KCG (Korean Contingency Government) , LCG (Latin Contingency Government), ACG (African Contingency Government) rush to do the same. With the Middle East being designated as the "No Zone", a virtual No Man's Land, it played host to bandits, vandals, merchants, crimelords, and was a warzone of all that was evil. This is what the world remained for fifty years times, a barren wasteland of continuity governments that only had a handful of survivors within their shelters with a singular chaos zone.
(2064) The Invasion and The Exodus
After continuity governments around the world noted strange happenings such as global world water supplies decreasing mysteriously, the communication systems across the world were wiped out (The Warning). This marked the beginning of the invasion of the Vorkusoans* of Earth. An imperial Alien race of the planet Agrona, at the time, the Vorkusoans held an empire that already enveloped half of the galaxy nearly and had now aimed at the Earth in hopes of establishing a new colony on the planet.
World CGs banded together, except for the KCG and the USCG who still held tensions and blame for the End War, separate coalition that interchanged the two, the governments fought the Vorkusoans. After mere months, it was apparent that this would be impossible to sustain for much longer. The World CGs turned the war into a capture-and-keep struggle. Missions were strictly employed to capture enemy craft for personal use, running mass capture missions Earth Forces only managed to gather 6 ships to be used for evacuation. Government officials were assured a spot on the ships, this left 4 ships available for citizen use. After doctors, teachers, lawyers, and other societal needs were filled only one ship was left for everyday citizens. Only the rich could afford the tickets.
After the ships evacuated, they found that they could go beyond the Solar System onto new planetary systems. The 1st Earth Fleet found asylum at The Galactic Association of Planets*, a planet designated as a peaceful planet strictly used intergalactic diplomacy. Back on Earth, the "Vorkies" immediately ascertained political control over Earth, but met very harsh resistance that is still ongoing.
(2065 - 2087) The Fight for Earth
As Earth was left to the Vorkusoans, they immediately set up an Imperial Occupation Zone (IOZE) to enforce their political control of the planet Earth. A harsh occupational government enslaved the Human Race, but did wonders to build the Earth infrastructure in certain designated zones. Some of those being New Angeles, Old New York, San Andreas City (San Francisco), New London, and New Tokyo. The Vorkusoans cemented their control over Earth after they officially incorporated Earth into their empire in 2070. The near monopoly of the Vorkusoans would then soon meet it's demise. In 2078, various civilizations across the galaxy rose up against the Vorkusoans but this alone wouldn't cause the failure of their empire.
After harsh resistances popped up across the galaxies, the Vorkusoans had trouble fending them off and keeping them off. In 2081, after a Murvet* missionary was punished by execution for speaking to a Human slave, the powerful Morvet race declared war on the Vorkusoans and became embroiled in a long war that lead to the fall of the Vorkusoan Empire, dwindling it's political control down to Earth, Mars, Venus, and Mercury by 2087. Still facing strong resistance from the Humans, which have now setup "Free Zones" across the world, the Vorkusoans are no longer capable of rebuilding their empire.
(2087 - Present) The Fight for Earth
After the end of the Morvet-Vorkusoan War, the Vorkusoans still faced a strong resistance among Humans. To add on to their struggle to maintain Earth, Morvet, the former saviors for Humans, attacked Earth in 2089. Not long after, the Vulkuyuns, a closely related species of the Vorkusoans, also invaded Earth for their own gain. Following suit the Pavchencus* invaded as well, until finally GAP coalition forces finally intervened, turning Earth into an all out warzone by the end of 2091.
The Earth War has been raging for nine years and shows no signs of stopping despite, GAP efforts and sanctions on partaking entities, including the Vorkusoans who, technically, are the sovereignty being attacked.
* Vorkusoan - A confrontational, hexapod race. They believe in total domination of the Galaxy but internal strife causes incompetency for the race.
* Morvet - A race of octopus-like creatures who are governed by a committee of prominent businessmen. They believe in an all-knowing creator god called Komer and are obsessed with spreading the word of their religion to members of other alien races. They maintain one of the strongest militaries in the Galaxy.
* Vulkuyuns - Closely related to the Vorkusoans, the Vulkuyuns are A race of monopods with excellent vision and short snouts. They wear tattoos to indicate their status in society. A social taboo forbids them to speak directly with members of other species.
* Pavchencus - A race of humanoid aliens who have large horns on their heads and blunted claws at the ends of their fingers. Telepathic in nature, their society is governed by a number of tribal councils. Their civilization is dedicated to conquering the galaxy.
* Galactic Association of Planets (GAP)- A intergalactic body similar to the United Nations.
TL;DR basically Korea started some shit that ended in nuclear war and the world becoming a wasteland, then aliens invaded and some humans left, leaving the rest to be enslaved by the aliens, however some resisted, the aliens who colonized Earth became weaker as a sovereignty, the earth became a free-for-all
