Everything Starts somewhere

Tallarn, A desert world on the very edge of Tophat Space. For long this world, little more then a large desert with contestant sandstorms, went by largely unknown by the Tophat Empire, to them it was a small meaningless planet, even if it had access to FTL travel it did not have any colonies, nor did they want any. The population of 5 million where old colonists from some long forgotten nation, whom after becoming independent decided to stay on the planet, no matter what. This Have lead to the population being rather small, and focused in the main city of "Tallarn Prime". The only bleak light on the desert ravaged planet, "Tallarn Prime" was the only large settlement on the planet, housing 4 out of the 5 million inhabitants. It is also the seat of the planets democratic elected government, whom ruled the planet from a large 20 story building, made out of a sand coloured stone, named "Tower of Light". It also housed the only space port on the planet. The City of "Tallarn Prime" itself was also a fortress, for the outskirts of the city where guarded by large Ferro-crete walls with bunkers, and above the whole city a large dome made out of Ferro-glass with a energy shield existed, to protect from sandstorms(even if it makes a very good AA defence).

Here the tales of our heroes

Some 3 years ago a large force of space ships arrived in the system, the small defence fleet maintained by Tallarn, mostly old Tophat Ships given to the colony free of charge tried to hail the large fleet, but the only response that came was in the way of weapons fire, tearing the small unprepared defence fleet to nothing but molten and deformed slag, but not before the lead ship; "TDF Pride of Tallarn", a Gladus class destroyer managed to inform the city on the ground about the situation, and in a last show of selfness the ship, having depleted it´s limited ammunition, gave full trust towards the lead enemy ship. Turning itself into a massive ramming torpedo, when the 2 ships collided those crew member that could still draw breath charged into the enemy warship. A futile attempt as they where quickly cut down by the massive pirate army. But it gave the ground forces time to mobilise, and prepare to defend the colony at any cost. At the same time the ruling body held a emergency meeting on how to combat this threat, the minister of defence; General Gustavus Shelding, suggested that they plead to the Tophat Empire for help, he projected that they city could last for 6 months before running out of the most important resource, Water.

But the generals pleas fell on deaf ears, for those that accepted help on such a scale from the Tophat Empire paid a heavy price, becoming a conlony of the empire. And while the Tophat where known as a respectful nation, with few laws that would be considered amoral, the ruling body of Tallarn refused to subject them-self to being ruled by anyone else, for one it was against the very principals that the colony was built on, and secondly, if they did subject them self. The ruling body of Tallarn would lose it´s power. So it was decided they would hold back the threat, by any means necessary.

A siege in progress

For 4 months did the wall and outer defences hold, the massive enemy army unable to even take the unprotected outlying settlements for the fear of Tallarn Primes massive Earth-shaker artillery batteries. Inside the massive bastion every man, woman and child was trained to use a Lasgun, and to defend the city they all called home. But this was not to last, on the 5th day of the 4th month of the siege the unthinkable happened, the walls energy shield failed for exactly 2 seconds due to a overload. at that exact moment a hostile artillery shell impacted. Spewing dead men, equipment and ferro-crete in all directions, from this breach the savage enemies pored into the outer city. Slaughtering everyone they could find. But the milita, armed with Lasguns, Home-made armour and the ferocity that comes from having your home threatened, counter attacked, and did manage to push the invaders, dubbed "Reavers" by the population of "Tallarn Prime". For the first time in 4 months there was a glimmer op hope in the eyes of the foot soldiers.

But the Ruling body of the city knew better, they had a hole in the wall, now it was a matter of time before the Reavers breached the makeshift defences deployed in the hole. To make matters wore parts of the population where starting to think that they should ask the Tophat Empire for help. It was better to stay alive and under the rule of an empire, then to fight a war they could not win, only to die and get pillaged. So with heavy hearths the government sent a emergency transmission to the Tophat Empire, pleading for help.

Arrival of reinforcements

But the Tophat Empire had not been sitting idly when all this was going time, no, they had assembled a large fleet of space craft, with a large force of ground forces, they where counting that Tallarn sooner or later would ask for help. So after 4 moths of waiting the ships of the Imperial Interstellar Navy left the massive orbital shipyards that they had been docked in for the last moths, setting course for the Tallarn system with utmost haste, for even if they did not act until asked, and even if the Tau seemed cold at first glance, they where a very compassionate race.

As the massive fleet exited foldspace where met by the large fleet of Reavers, surprised by the arrival of the TIIN tehy had little time fore the RAMD rounds left the barrels of the ships, together with sun sharks and barracudas. Flying to engage the Reaver fleet, mostly consisting of outdated ships with extra weapons, it was also clear that they flew with parts of there reactor containment fields gone, exposing the crew to dangerous amount of radiation, not that it mattered to the tophat forces. To them the Reavers where the enemy, as such they should be eradicated, And destroyed they became, after 10 minutes of combat it was over. The Reavers where reduced to burning slag, while the TIIN only lost a Kir'shasvre Class Escort. But there was little in the way of rest, for the situation on the ground grew more desperate by the moment, for the outer defences where about to fail once again.

With with no rest the pilots still out in the field of slag turned thieve crafts towards the planet, and engaged the engines, soaring down towards Tallarn Prime as angels of deaths. The Sun Sharks flying back and forth over the enemy lines, dropping large blasts of plasma, and spewing missiles down on the enemy, while Razorsharks flew, the quad ion cannon wrecking havoc on the command vehicles of the Reaver forces. Behind them the ground forces came, in the opening made and maintained by plasma bombs Ocras and Mantas came, deploying there cargo of soldiers, tanks and experimental XV-9 Battlesuits, armed with quad burst cannons they made short work work of the Reavers out in the opened. At the same time several Gladus Class Destroyers landed on the planet 3 metric miles away, deploying there troopers whom at once started to move up against the now retreading Reaver army. The slaughter that followed resulted in most of the Reavers dying on the desert outside Tallarn Prime, or those that survived and where captured by the Tophat forces, tied and found guilty of a manner of crimes, and summary executed, before incinerating the bodies of the menace that had layed siege to the city for 4 months, where defeated in a matter of 27 hours by the arrival of the tophat forces.

Things Settled down, for the time being

All over the City of Tallarn Prime the Forces of the Tophat Emprie where celebrated as heroes, for they where, they had saved the remaining civilian population from harm. But it had been a costly battle, for almost 2 million Tallarns had lost the battle, and on the field outside drones worked for 3 days uncovering the bodies of the dead tophat forces, collecting the remains of both Tau, Man, Kroot and the equipment used by them. They where to be celebrated as heroes, they died protecting others, the biggest honour for a member of the Fire Caste. But slowly life returned to normal, General Gustavus Shelding was promoted to Shas'o Trallarn Shovah Kais Mont'yr, and placed in command of all Fire Caste Members on the planet, while a Human from the Earth Caste was placed in general command over the planet; Aun'La Fio'o T'au Kovash.

But with new rulers came new rules, firstly the whole thing of designations and names, and laws forbidding religion, while Tallarn was mostly non-religious it was still seen as huge invasion of privacy. But the thing that saw the most discontent was the implementation of the caste system. That the citizens of the Tallarn new longer could pick there own work was truly a kick to the groin for many. But most just accepted it as a matter of the new life.

This was 2,5 year ago, and since then most of the population have come to accept the changes that the Tophat Empire brought, some even starting to embrace the ideals.

But not all, there are a secret group that have spent the last 2 years growing discontent, 2 years of planning, carefully staying under the eyes of the ever present TIAAF. But they have succeeded with the first part of retaking the planet, they have managed to secure large stashes of equipment used by the PDF before and during the siege, and i 2 days time they are ready to strike, ready to start reclaiming the planet.

So, what is your story? are you a revolutionary? a citizen loyal to the empire? or maybe you will just try to survive the chaos that will soon engulf the planet? whatever allegiance you have, it will not be easy

Detailed Description:On December 21st 20XX a mysterious explosion occured in the city of [redacted]. millions were killed or went missing. The explosion can still be seen today as if frozen in time. The area is covered in a dome of black energy. This is known as the Dark Blackness. On June 21st of the next year, a similar event happened in a city just [redacted] miles away, except the subsequent dome was covered in a white energy. This is known as the Dark whiteness.

The government has stepped in and barricaded both areas, yet many still have crossed over in curiosity. Those who return come back different though, they are called either contractors or signers.

Contractors, from either gate, exude extraordinary powers, but at a cost, they lose their strongest emotion. The other cost is related to your power, to recharge it you must commit an act you hate the most. This act, nicknamed The Curse, can vary from studying to smoking, to slicing your arms. It is said a contractor is born every two weeks.

Signers are more of a failed experiment. They are removed from only the most basic emotions such as survival and have the ability to see through far distances by sending their "ghost" through electrical wires or reflective surfaces. It is said a signer is born every week.

It was better to stay alive and under the rule of an empire, then to fight a war they could not win, only to die and get pillaged. So with heavy hearths the government sent a emergency transmission to the Tophat Empire, pleading for help.

Arrival of reinforcements

But the Tophat Empire had not been sitting idly when all this was going time, no, they had assembled a large fleet of space craft, with a large force of ground forces, they where counting that Tallarn sooner or later would ask for help. So after 4 moths of waiting the ships of the Imperial Interstellar Navy left the massive orbital shipyards that they had been docked in for the last moths, setting course for the Tallarn system with utmost haste, for even if they did not act until asked, and even if the Tau seemed cold at first glance, they where a very compassionate race.

As the massive fleet exited foldspace where met by the large fleet of Reavers, surprised by the arrival of the TIIN tehy had little time fore the RAMD rounds left the barrels of the ships, together with sun sharks and barracudas. Flying to engage the Reaver fleet, mostly consisting of outdated ships with extra weapons, it was also clear that they flew with parts of there reactor containment fields gone, exposing the crew to dangerous amount of radiation, not that it mattered to the tophat forces. To them the Reavers where the enemy, as such they should be eradicated, And destroyed they became, after 10 minutes of combat it was over. The Reavers where reduced to burning slag, while the TIIN only lost a Kir'shasvre Class Escort. But there was little in the way of rest, for the situation on the ground grew more desperate by the moment, for the outer defences where about to fail once again.

With with no rest the pilots still out in the field of slag turned thieve crafts towards the planet, and engaged the engines, soaring down towards Tallarn Prime as angels of deaths. The Sun Sharks flying back and forth over the enemy lines, dropping large blasts of plasma, and spewing missiles down on the enemy, while Razorsharks flew, the quad ion cannon wrecking havoc on the command vehicles of the Reaver forces. Behind them the ground forces came, in the opening made and maintained by plasma bombs Ocras and Mantas came, deploying there cargo of soldiers, tanks and experimental XV-9 Battlesuits, armed with quad burst cannons they made short work work of the Reavers out in the opened. At the same time several Gladus Class Destroyers landed on the planet 3 metric miles away, deploying there troopers whom at once started to move up against the now retreading Reaver army. The slaughter that followed resulted in most of the Reavers dying on the desert outside Tallarn Prime, or those that survived and where captured by the Tophat forces, tied and found guilty of a manner of crimes, and summary executed, before incinerating the bodies of the menace that had layed siege to the city for 4 months, where defeated in a matter of 27 hours by the arrival of the tophat forces.

Things Settled down, for the time being

All over the City of Tallarn Prime the Forces of the Tophat Emprie where celebrated as heroes, for they where, they had saved the remaining civilian population from harm. But it had been a costly battle, for almost 2 million Tallarns had lost the battle, and on the field outside drones worked for 3 days uncovering the bodies of the dead tophat forces, collecting the remains of both Tau, Man, Kroot and the equipment used by them. They where to be celebrated as heroes, they died protecting others, the biggest honour for a member of the Fire Caste. But slowly life returned to normal, General Gustavus Shelding was promoted to Shas'o Trallarn Shovah Kais Mont'yr, and placed in command of all Fire Caste Members on the planet, while a Human from the Earth Caste was placed in general command over the planet; Aun'La Fio'o T'au Kovash.

But with new rulers came new rules, firstly the whole thing of designations and names, and laws forbidding religion, while Tallarn was mostly non-religious it was still seen as huge invasion of privacy. But the thing that saw the most discontent was the implementation of the caste system. That the citizens of the Tallarn new longer could pick there own work was truly a kick to the groin for many. But most just accepted it as a matter of the new life.

This was 2,5 year ago, and since then most of the population have come to accept the changes that the Tophat Empire brought, some even starting to embrace the ideals.

But not all, there are a secret group that have spent the last 2 years growing discontent, 2 years of planning, carefully staying under the eyes of the ever present TIAAF. But they have succeeded with the first part of retaking the planet, they have managed to secure large stashes of equipment used by the PDF before and during the siege, and i 2 days time they are ready to strike, ready to start reclaiming the planet.

So, what is your story? are you a revolutionary? a citizen loyal to the empire? or maybe you will just try to survive the chaos that will soon engulf the planet? whatever allegiance you have, it will not be easy
