Also, a lot of Thorvald's theories and strategies to win the war will be inspired by the teachings of Sun Tzu in the Art of War (which I just finished learning about in Military History).

That's exactly what the strategy is, all of Sun Tzu's teachings are about how to end a war quickly with the least amount of casualties. Hell, one of his most iconic quote is "For to win one hundred victories in one hundred battles is not the acme of skill. To subdue the enemy without fighting is the acme of skill." his teachings also have a heavy reliance on spies and intel gathering.
