The handgun was out, firmly pressed against the man's forehead. "Hey, so you're the prick who's trying to kill my students. Nice to meet you. Oh, also, move an inch further, and let's just say the janitor isn't paid enough." She flicked out a cellphone, tapped a number, and loudly announced to Hark on the other end: "Got him." And hung up.

"Now, why don't you tell me why you're here?"

"I don't think so, because I don't think you'll actually shoot an unarmed man for making use of the right to remain silent." His tone was cocky, and his eyes clearly showed his contempt.

Morman had finally caught up to the man after he managed to flee from the infirmary, noting that a security staff member held him at gunpoint. With his mantis following hot on his trail, he stopped. "Shoot him. He deserves to die. If you won't do it, we will." Morman spoke, bluntly, with an intensely fury-filled gaze. This wasn't him putting on an act like some might expect from him. These were his true feelings towards this man. He did deserve some kind of awful fate, after what Charlotte had told him.

"No shit Sherlock. But you forgot one thing: I'm not a cop." She smiled and pulled the hammer back. "And I know someone who could do some pretty nasty things to you. Besides, you look like someone nobody will remember. Nobody will cry at your funeral. No one will truly hurt from your death. Do you want to know why?

Because you're invisible to others, or, at least, that's what you believe. The fact of the matter is simple: you are nothing. You are a waste of matter in this universe, a waste of a soul, a killer of hearts, and a sadistic freak who, if you weren't a human being would be put down like the animal you are." She gave a chilling smile.

"That about right, Mister Kincaid?"

She turned to Morman. "Sorry kiddo, but this guy's got a fate worse then death waiting for him. He's got a date with Nao." She smiled cruelly at the boy. "Is that acceptable, Mister Morman?"

Morman was disappointed. If she hadn't been there, then he could have easily caught up with the man and decided his fate for himself. Now it was being handed over to the same woman that had tried to kill him and Charlotte that very day. He could feel another rising anger, anger towards himself for not finishing him in the infirmary, and not being fast enough.

"If that's what's going to happen..." he started, begrudgingly, "then I want him to be there." Morman said, placing a hand on his big green companion. He said him, though he really didn't have any idea as to its gender. It didn't matter.

"I want him to take part."

"On second thought, here." She said, producing another gun and tossing it to Morman. "The choice is yours, shoot him now, or let me, Hark, Nao, and yourself have a nice chat with Mister Kincaid later." She kept the first gun on the man's forehead, silently increasing the pressure. "But, just know, that if you shoot him, you'll never be the same."

"OK. First off, we don't want to alert them of our prescence if we don't have to. So our insertion is going to be simple. I'm going to pose as your chaperone on a school trip. We'll be going on a tour under the guise of St. Leonard's School for the Scientifically Inclined. We'll follow the tour until we get near the stash point, and Max will ask the guide if we can see inside the room. Once inside, I'll slap a sleeping patch on him. Dillon, you and I will loot the stash. Max, you'll come with Dillon, Harriet, Beth, and I to the door to the inner compound, making sure no guards on the way try to detain us. Meanwhile, Alice will go back to the main office, where she'll lead the secretary and the guard there to the storage room, telling them that our tour guide fainted. Then she'll use one of my sleeping patches on the secretary, and blind the guard. She'll quickly take the guard's keys, rush out, and lock the room from the outside. Alice, at that point you should leave the building and join En outside, where she'll wait with the big guns in case reinforcements are necessary. Once Max, Dillon, and I are at the inner compound door, Dillon and Harriet should teleport/discorporate inside and use a tranquilizer on the two guards that should be in the stash. They will open the door for the rest of us, and we'll go to the target's room, which is on the far side. Any guards we encounter we take down, be it with tranq or gun if necessary. At this point in the insertion, stealth is not necessary any longer. We grab the target and leave, using force if necessary. Any questions, or did I miss someone?"

"Good question. Assuming my contact can break through their defense system completely, all defense systems including the alarm will be disabled. If he cannot, yes, just GTFO, take down guards on the way to help your allies."
He pocketed his handgun, but grabbed a compatible silencer from the arms locker.

"But, just know, that if you shoot him, you'll never be the same."

Morman took the weapon in his hand, completely taken off guard when the woman had thrown it his way. It was heavier than expected, for such a small weapon, and he felt the weight in his hands, getting used to the feel, inspecting it from all angles. Had she really just put the man's life in his hands? This wasn't a decision that he woke up this morning and thought that he would have to make. Morman could feel his heart rate starting to pick up, beating out of his chest after a half minute pouring over the firearm, wrapping his hand around the grip, placing his finger on the trigger.

He looked up at the man, attempting to get a read on how he felt. He likely found it quite amusing when his life was put in the hands of the bug brat, the teenager who'd rarely harmed anyone in his life. Morman had killed before, but hadn't intended to. Looking someone in the face, making them stare down the barrel of a loaded weapon ready to end their life...it would be a horrifying experience from the other side. Was he capable of that?

Still, he thought of the alternative. Watching the same man being slowly tortured, likely killed anyway, but in a long, drawn out manner. The more he thought about it that way, the less it began to appeal to him. If he gave in to that kind of hate, was he condoning the same thing that Michael had done to Charlotte? Inflicting so much pain, but giving her no escape in the form of death. That seemed like an even worse situation than looking your executioner in the face.

Morman didn't feel like he was capable of any of these, but...he had to make a decision. Quickly.

He didn't look when he decided to pull the trigger. His eyes were shut tightly, and he felt his heart stop for just half a second.

Michael died painlessly, not even having time to register what had happened. He literally never knew what had hit him.

Back in the infirmary, Charlotte woke up, looking around, still kind of dazed. The last thing she remembered was Michael's hands around her throat, and feeling lightheaded. Now the room was empty, and a mess, and she was alone.
Then she heard the shot, and her heart skipped a beat. She scrambled out, falling to her knees in horror when she saw the body. Then her breathing eased as she registered the identity of the corpse, and she managed a weak smile, tactfully neglecting to mention the gun. He'll never touch me again. Never... never again... She lowered her head and wept, both from relief that her abuser was finally gone and from the rush of memories flooding her mind with pain.

Valentine

Valentine stared at the corpse for a moment, before wiping the blood off her sleeve onto the body of Kincaid, and standing and looking at Morman. She stared coldly, her eyes unflinching. "In this school we lose a lot of things. Innocence is one of them. Don't lose any more of it." She said, before vanishing into thin air.

"Alright. Also, just for everyone to be aware -- The only people with live rounds will be me, Mister Slade here, and Beth. Everyone else is using Electric Flechette Rounds. Be aware, and please refrain from shooting your friends in the back. Also, most of our weapons are polymer so that they can go through metal detectors, as such, pistol whipping is inadvisable." En said with a sigh, she sounded almost like she was flight stewardess giving the excessive amounts of warnings pre-takeoff.

Morman could only nod in response to the woman's cold gaze and...advice, he supposed. By then he had already let the gun drop to the floor, trying his best not to look at the body. He knew Charlotte had seen him do it too, or at least she knew that he had, and that didn't make him feel any better. He wasn't sure what he would have felt if he'd killed him in their scuffle, but now...he felt like little more than an executioner. He still was convinced he'd made the right decision, but would he ever forget that?

He wondered what the man's face looked like when he saw the boy raise the gun towards him. He imagined a look of shock and horror.

Morman didn't look at her as he spoke, as she was kneeling by the man's corpse, but he managed to say something to Charlotte. "Charlotte, we should...I don't think we should stay here."

At least it was his blood spilled and not yours. Anyway, this is going to be the last time we talk. He's dead. I'm leaving. Bye. ...goodbye, I guess. It was as if a hot spike had been removed from her forehead, one that she hadn't even known was there.

Maya cocked her head, looking at the body, which was missing a significant part of its head, before turning to Norman. She stared at him for several seconds with those strange eyes of hers before speaking.
"Tell me something, boy, did you enjoy hurting that man? Killing that man?"

Morman was glad that she agreed so quickly, managing a small smile when she stood and began to walk with him. Now he had something else weighing heavily on his mind, to feel guilt about somehow - despite how awful the guy really was. He simply tried to think about why he'd done it, and it all came back to what he'd done to Charlotte, and Morman's own desire to keep her safe.

Which reminded him.

He didn't give her any warning, but he felt like it was something he needed. He kissed her again, not like before though which had been nervous, flustered, not the best. This one had purpose and passion behind it - he wanted to let her know how glad he was she was alive, but he was at a loss for words. He wanted to tell her that nothing was ever going to touch her again, but didn't know if he could make that promise out loud. It was the best thing that he could think of to do, and it calmed him down. There wasn't anything else to think about in that brief time, just how happy he was that Charlotte was okay.

She didn't get a lot of happiness, so when she did--well, she savored it, because if her life proved anything, it was that you never knew when the pain was going to come.
Although now, she thought, just maybe, all of that would change.

Morman could feel his skin heating up the longer he held them there, and it felt right, as if he was always meant to be this way. As much as he hated to, he pulled away, slowly, for just a moment. The goofy boy was gone for now, and he was solemn, but still managed to smile. "I love you so much Charlotte. I don't know what I would've done if he'd...hurt you." Morman said, but he couldn't bring himself to make eye contact after knowing that she'd witnessed him playing executioner. He still held her tightly against him though, enjoying the comfort her presence brought.

Beth felt slightly guilty about not telling Harriet much about the SBG, but she herself didn't know how to explain it easily... maybe an organization of thugs, wasn't as closer to what it was than the government. Either way, she clenched Harriet's hand really quick and whispered to her, "just stay close, and don't be worried. I'm not going to let anything happen to you."

She checked her pistol, she didn't like real guns. They felt evil, for a lack of a better term. Her ability was similar and probably deadlier, but it wasn't the same.

She had to use her power conservatively, as she already fired two shots today. She was on board, and didn't seem afraid. She, like a number of them here, we're used to it. outside of the new recruits...

Morman held her head to his chest, offering what comfort he could when he saw her eyes tearing up. She could probably hear his heart beating out of control, and he was about to speak when Maya suddenly happened upon them, once again. Every time. Without fail, sure as rain. he thought to himself, wishing that he and Charlotte didn't attract so much attention as they seemed to. He turned red, but didn't attempt to move out of the embrace. When heard her question he immediately replied. "No. I just figured that...he deserved to be killed. For everything that he'd done. Besides, we couldn't very well let him leave alive, after he found out about us. It wasn't something I enjoyed." he answered truthfully.

Maya cocked her head to the other side at his answer.
"So... you didn't enjoy it... but you thought he deserved it..." As her words trail off, she break into an uncharacteristic, for the original Maya, grin, and actually laughs a little with that strange laugh she has. "Interesting... that's the same kind of justifications I was feeding myself before I took the final step into creating Nao... still, you don't seem like the kind of person who'd end up like me." She glances at Charlotte. "Though I can't say the same about her. Once there's a hell inside your head, it never goes away for good. That man may be dead, but there'll always be a little bit of him still stuck in there." Maya turns to leave, heading back towards Kristina's room. "Though I'm just speaking from my own experience."

"I don't exactly plan on doing that more than once. Not like that, ever again." Morman responded with an unflinching gaze of his own as she walked away. "And if she still does have...him there, I'm not letting it hurt her again." he said, another of his promises to keep her safe. It was almost turning into his sole mission, and he refused to acknowledge the near impossibility of it. He was going to try every chance he got, however. He glanced down at her, grinning. "You know, I started watching the movie I wanted to show you, but...is now a good time?" he asked, though the look he gave was more of a 'please say yes' than anything.

She forced a smile, although considering what she had just gone through, it was pretty difficult. "All right. Lead on, then..." Oh, that's right. My wings are still there. She snapped her fingers, and they vanished. Better. It hurts when they just burst out like that. Sheesh.

Morman feigned disappointment. "I was going to ask if you could fly us there, but..." he said, looking down sadly as he started towards his room, slowly. He really was trying to lighten the mood a bit but it wasn't easy, not for either of them, to forget something so quickly. He was glad though that he hadn't looked the man in the eye when it happened. He really didn't want to talk about it, but there was a burning question he had to ask that was clearly gnawing at him already, threatening to bring tears again if he didn't ask. "Charlotte..." he started, looking at her like a child afraid to ask his mother for something he may get in trouble for.

"You don't...Do you think any less of me?" he couldn't help but ask. She had seen him straight up murder a man in the hallway when he could have let the security deal with it. Still, he felt like them 'dealing with it' would have been very slow, and very painful for him. He considered it a great mercy. "Do you think I'm less of a...I don't know, any less of a person?"

She looked at him with confusion for a moment, and then she realized what he meant, and she hugged him. "No, Morman. No, I think more of you than I did before, if that's even possible. I know you were angry with him--furious, even--but you controlled it. You could have let Maya deal with him, and to be perfectly honest, I probably would have. But you didn't. You showed mercy. And that's wonderful."
